It was also really wonderful to be able to have her come to my house to check on me and the baby in the first few weeks after the birth. My husband and I are forever grateful to have had Jinny by our side during the pregnancy and birth of our daughter. Jinny is a solid - yet soft and sensitive - force of will. I was 46 when my daughter was born at home. The pregnancy and birth were beautiful and smooth even though our daughter surprised us by arriving a few weeks early. While my son's hospital birth three years earlier had been an overall positive and intervention-free experience, there are so many things my husband and I preferred about working with Jinny and her midwife team: -- The continuity of care from prenatal to postnatal: While your OB might not be the one to actually deliver your baby at a hospital (though we were lucky to have our OB deliver our son), we knew Jinny would be with us through the pregnancy, birth and after. During postnatal visits Jinny checked in with mama AND baby. By contrast, my OB admitted "I know nothing about babies." -- I felt more connected to my baby and body thanks to the way Jinny and her team would find baby's position with their hands/senses, and how they taught me to feel and track what was happening inside. Some of my favorite memories from the pregnancy are of Jinny showing my son how to measure my belly and listen to his little sister's heart rate using a fetoscope. -- The prenatal appointments were comfortable, intimate and calm, taking place at home. I had many unnecessary ultrasounds and dopplers, and one OB advised me to schedule a C-section at 36 weeks because my son's head was so big (fortunately we didn't listen and he was born naturally on his due date). -- During labor, Jinny and her team held a still, serene, sacred space, melting into the background to allow things to flow naturally while being ready to jump in at any time if needed or requested. -- Jinny knew and trusted me and my body - so I too trusted my body and Jinny's guidance, and could let go completely. She did not rely on measurements to find out how far labor had progressed, yet she knew exactly the point when measuring was actually going to be helpful in our particular situation. -- Jinny's many years as a doula have given her all kinds of ideas and techniques to help baby find its ideal position. Toward the end of my labor, Jinny did some magic with a rebozo and soon after my daughter was born. -- The birth: When they realized baby was coming (before I realized it myself) Jinny and her team sprung into action with amazing precision, calm and grace thanks to how thoughtfully the space had been prepared. I did not have a single moment of feeling unsafe. -- My husband and I loved that my son got to be present for the birth of his sister - along with the other individuals we wanted to be there. The midwives had helped us come up with a detailed yet fluid plan, including who would be there in what capacity. -- Immediately after the birth: This was very different from the hospital, where we had people coming in to do tests and check-ins so regularly that we could not really relax into the experience of being with our newborn. By contrast, Jinny showed great respect and reverence, doing only what was required during the first hours after the birth in order to allow us this absolutely precious opportunity to meet and bond with our new family member. -- I had wondered if having the birth at home might leave the house in disarray but the opposite was true. I would most describe Jinny as warm, loving and strong. We originally connected with her as our backup doula, and she ended up being with us throughout the midst and end of our birth as she took worked in conjunction with our doula and then took over completely. We had a long laboring process, so she was with us from about 6am until 10pm. When Jinny arrived at the hospital, I was in the throws of a long and challenging labor. I can definitely feel the difference; I had much more energy, and it also helped a lot with the baby blues (which was a problem for me after the first two pregnacies). This post is overdue. I contacted Jinny about her placenta services. I had a couple of questions about the process and dealing with a not so normal placenta. She sent me a thorough email with resources and references. She was so kind while answering all of my questions, BEFORE I signed the contract or made my deposit. After I gave birth she was at the hospital to pick up my placenta within a couple of hours. She had been in contact with my doula, Gingi, so I didn't have to do anything. First, a review of Jinny and her service - Jinny is incredible. I knew I wanted to try placenta encapsulation with our first child, but didn't look into it until 10 days before due date. I found Jinny on Yelp. Her prices were the best I could find in the area, plus she had fantastic reviews. I contacted her and put "fill out placenta contract" on my to-do list, but naturally went into labor before I had completed that task. I called Jinny, who thankfully was available to pick up the placenta the day after delivery, and helped me to decide on what I wanted in person. She wasn't pushy at all and respected my preferences (I didn't want anything but the pills and the salve, not into the umbilical cord art). Less than 48 hours later, she personally delivered the pills, salve and broth and took the time to give me detailed instructions and answer my questions. She also texted me a few weeks later to see how things were going. The service she offered felt more like post partem doula services, which I know she also offers, because of the kind attention she provided. What brand new mother wouldn't benefit from that? Second, a review of placenta encapsulation itself - as a vegetarian for more than 10 years, swallowing the pills was a bit tough as they smell and taste strongly of... well, organ! The rusty smell of blood was definitely present, and should be, as high iron and other good mineral content is what you're after along with the high hormone doses. I quickly found that the best way to take them was with an Izze or other juice. As this is my first kid, it's hard to say whether the pills definitively prevented any post partem depression. But, as my mom suffered from PPD and I felt pretty normal over the first six weeks, I fully believe they were worth more than we paid for them. I would absolutely do this again with the next kid, and I'd use Jinny's service! read more

I was skeptical of taking my placenta when I first heard about it, but then the more I researched it the more I wanted to do it. Jinny made it super easy for it to be done. She picks up and delivers, so you really don't have to do much. And the packaging is cute too :-) This is my first baby so I have nothing to base it off of, but I think the placenta really made a difference in my healing from the birth. Even though I haven't slept much, I feel good and I almost lost all my baby weight only after 4 weeks. I really do think it's the placenta. My husband said he noticed a difference in my attitude once I started taking the capsules. I just finished my capsules about a week ago and have been taking the tincture when I am low on energy and it helps ground me and gives me a little boost.
