I love a good pedestrian area, and we as consumers are more likely to go in places when we can leisurely stroll. There was a music stage and a small area for performers, and a few areas with kid centered things. I really enjoyed that all the businesses were open at one time. I've been walking through Nulu before and tried to stop in a shop during the middle of the day only to discover its closed. This really welcomed people in but also made some areas a little crowded. Overall I'm looking forward to next year to see how they continue to expand.

From…read morewhat was mentioned on Google the festival would have over 100 vendors and and would be celebrated for 3 days, so it definitely seemed like an interesting and unique festival to attend while on vacation. On the Saturday afternoon that we attended there were a few variety of booths that we saw, I noticed that the festival housed multiple booths of the same ethnic cuisine and a few different booths, so there wasn't as much variety as I expected it to be. The performances that I saw were really good, but it was honestly difficult to enjoy the festival in it's entirety because it was so hot outside. I tried the sweet potato cheesecake at the southern food booth and the strawberry sorbet and the gelato booth and those were really good. The saw a few music performances and one of the cultural dances and I really enjoyed the dance. I really wish I could've stayed longer to see more performances, but with the heat they were spread too far apart in the day to stay longer.

This twice-a-year event that only makes me love my neighborhood more and more!…read more The spring walk takes place the Saturday between Thunder and Derby (or the saturday before Derby, in the case of an Easter-induced longer pre-Derby Festival). The fall walk takes place mid-September, usually the weekend after Labor Day. Since Monnik has taken over the walk, things have changed a little bit. But it is still great! Hickory Street, on either side of Burnett, is closed off. There are two outdoor stages set up and bands play all evening and in to the night. In the event of inclement weather, sometimes the performances can be moved indoors at Monnik and maybe Checks. Beer tents, food trucks, cake walks, pull tabs, good music, good people, good times! The other neighborhood bars get in on the fun too, with bands and food or drink specials at spots like the MerryWeather, Nach Bar, Old Hickory Inn, and others. One of the houses near the center point of the walk area has outdoor backyard karaoke. I love this event, I love my neighborhood, and I love my neighbors!

The streets are closed to traffic , folks bring lawn chairs, there are picnic tables set up, which all makes for a fun, festive atmosphere. Food is available at Checks Cafe and a few other surrounding venues. Parking is on the street but usually available within a block of the venue. They typically have 3 or 4 Blues bands on Friday and that many more on Saturday. The event has been going on for years and the crowd is steady but not overbearing. So get a chair next time, sit in the street, listen to great music, catch up with old friends, have a beer and a brat and enjoy the BLUES. All for free, well music and sitting are free, beer not so much.

In fact, shortly after I moved here, a prestigious local professional recommended I attend it. The neighborhood is gorgeous, and the art fair is well organized and thought out. I was glad to see food from Kingsley's was featured as it has great food. I like this art fair just as much as the St. James one if not better. If you are looking for a nice, fun activity and enjoy being outside and art, this festival is especially for you. There also is jewelry, soap and lotion, and other items sold. Wine and mimosas are available for purchase as well.

We mostly went for the Bark Krawl because it was so much fun last year and $10 gets you a passport, donation to the Humane Society, collect stamps (no purchase required) and entry for a gift basket from one of the participating bar/restaurants. There were live bands, contests for the dogs, and so much more. We walked the whole festival and got to see many vendors, we also got to go every participating business and collect stamps. We plan on returning next year and supporting a good cause.

It's surprisingly small for how big of an area it's in, though. They've got artists, food, beer, handmade goodies, even animal shelters raising money and promoting adoption. I also found this festival to be a great excuse to check out some nearby shops. It's a free event so I can't complain. It's not too much but it's still enough to have something fun to do for a couple hours of your weekend.

Add to the fact that the nearby parking garage raised parking rates from $5 to $10 for an event in which we were there an hour and came back empty handed doesn't help. Although there were plenty of food booths(we didn't see the Boy Scout booth that sells roasted corn this year) there was literally no empty tables and getting a booth inside a restaurant was impossible. We ended up back in Louisville to grab lunch.

They do a good job of describing the balloons and their stories. They go glows and tinkles with the lights in the balloons. My husband and I went early enough to not be uncomfortably surrounded by people while visiting the vendor booths. Booths were a mixture of local businesses and groups or small business vendors selling earrings, candles, soaps, cookies, clothing and more. The food vendors were similar to being at the state fair, offering lemonade, corn dogs and funnel cakes. My favorite snack was the popcorn. For the kids they offered a variety of activities - bouncy houses and carnival rides. The Gaslight Festival is actually a few days of events. Most popular activities are the 5k, parade and car show. Street parking can be tough to find but some organizations offer their lot for a small parking fee, which raises money for their group. Keep this in mind if you're wanting to visit a restaurant in the area. (You're likely not going to be able to park at their private lot)

The Jtown Gaslight Festival is a relaxed neighborhood affair -- a perfect festival to close out the…read moresummer with. I was impressed with the amount of booths at this festival -- probably two or three blocks' worth. And these booths included a mix of local businesses and nonprofits, artists and cheaper gifts. For example, if you bring a child and want to buy him/her something inexpensive, you can probably find it here. There is also a car show, which is fun to browse, as well as rides, live music and a variety of fair food. The kettle corn stand made the main thoroughfare smell amazing and rightfully so had a decently long line, which included me. A favorite part was that walking the streets of the festival allowed me to slow down enough to really take in the buildings and businesses lining downtown Jtown. I didn't know that Jtown had its on archeological society, for example. It also provided me an opportunity to check out the new Feast BBQ that just opened in downtown Jtown. Parking was decently easy to come by -- an added plus. It seems like Jtown is becoming a more and more popular place to live and do business. It was fun to see all of this on display at the Gaslight Festival.

The lines look long at first, but they move very quickly. $6 for a bier can feel steep, but you get 16 Oz and at least 5.6% ABV for most of them. The food is good, not great, but it's German food in Louisville which is surprisingly hard to find. The music enhances the atmosphere. And this is very kid-friendly too. The event also boasts German music, dancing, and attire, as well as other German activities. The main dance hall is decorated with German flags and other items, including photographs, so there's a lot to see! If you're looking for something really fun to do in the Louisville area, the German American Club Oktoberfest event is one of my favorites!

I justify the cost in that a) it's a delicious event, and b) it's benefitting good causes. The air hangar is lined with all types of foods and drinks. The biggest drawback is, unless you buy a table, you will be fighting for one of the few cocktail tables or juggling stuff in your hands. Which isn't bad... it's just a little tricky. I try to eat as little as possible on the day of the event, and it is totally best to pace yourself while here. I always hate to waste food, but I believe it's literally impossible to eat everything here! You could easily get drunk at such an event; in which case, plan appropriately! (I focus on the food at this.) The atmosphere is pretty chill but fun--after all, the people here like to eat and drink too!!! I suggest coming early to maximize the experience and to give yourself some breaks between foods as you make your way around the room! Happy tasting!!
