How does one write a review for an animal shelter? I'm not sure, but I'll give it a shot. :-)
I love animals. Specifically cats, of which I have two. If I could, I would work with them full-time. Short of becoming a vet assistant, that probably won't happen. So I started volunteering at Homeward Bound instead.
Homeward Bound isn't *too* far out; it's in Burnside near the animal emergency clinic. They are no-kill (yay!) and have cats, dogs and (as of this writing) a rabbit up for adoption. There are two cat rooms and one dog room in the front of the shelter; in the back I believe they have space for more dogs. I haven't been back there, 'cause I'm too busy cuddling cats. Unfortunately, the dogs can be LOUD and there is really nowhere to escape the noise. However, most of the cats don't seem too perturbed.
The staff I have interacted with are friendly and can provide information on the pets up for adoption (although some come with no story attached). The animals appear to be well cared for and loved by both staff and volunteers alike. I have never adopted from Homeward Bound, but now that I'm hanging with the kittehs it's probably just a matter of time. read more
