Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago Southland-Matteson - Breakfast Area

First visit here for a week long stay. The location is great, right off the I-57 expressway with…read moreseveral national and regional restaurants within walking distance. The hotel has all of the Hampton amenities, free open air parking and breakfast everyday. pool, fitness room, mini fridge in the rooms and a convenience mart. Everything was good with the exception I had to request cleaning service after the 3rd day and no one available at the front desk after 11pm.

I decided to book here, despite negative reviews. W Hubs had…read morea hotel booked for a week starting the night after this stay but in the heart of Chicago. We could not find a hotel that had rates cheaper than $400 so we decided to stay outside of the busy area and just drive in the following day. This hotel was on our way and it was under $200 so we booked it. We arrived after 8pm and had our digital key already sent to us. That made it easy because there were not many places to eat and we wanted to drop everything off and go back out to grab some dinner. Our room was massive! It was a great room if I was working and hubs would be out on jobs. We were going to sit somewhere in the lobby and hang out before bed but it was extremely chaotic with trashy people so we decided to stay in our room for the evening. The bed was comfortable and so was the sofa. We had requested a late check out because we could not check in to our next hotel until 3pm and it was a short drive. We were given until 1pm, which was very generous. Breakfast sucked. Nothing was restocked. All the trashy people we encountered the previous night were multiplied in the morning. I was getting a headache from all the noise so I didn't want to wait longer than the 30 minutes we were already there for restocking. That was the one less star reason and also for a snickers ice cream bar I purchased for like $8 that tasted gross and freezer burnt. Even with that, I would stay here again.

The only feedback I really have are the bathrooms not being maintained frequently and the strong smell of pot all around, which not much they can do on that one. I gave it a 4 stars because my last visit, one of the staff members at their Starbucks was a little unwelcoming. I know it was close to their closing time, but the way my order was taken made me feel like I was an inconvenience to her. The rest of the staff there was nice. I mainly go for slots, so I haven't dined at any of their outlets nor have I interacted with the dealers, but just from observing, majority of the staff seems nice and inviting. I don't rate this off any winnings or losses, just overall ambiance and interactions.

This visit was my first to this newish 1.5 year old hotel/casino complex located right off of I-80…read moreat Halsted St. It's quite a large, airy, contemporary, and colorful place. I came to enjoy dinner at their Food Bazaar food court followed by a classic Motown Revue concert performed by a cover group called Motor City in their Halsted Ballroom. It was all courtesy of my high roller brother-in-law who had the required points to make it all complimentary. I learned this hotel-casino is owned by a group called the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and they own other properties mainly in AL and FL apparently as well as a few properties overseas. I will review their food court separately under the Food Bazaar Yelp page. Before eating, we walked about the premises. A lot of the space is dedicated to slot machines. They have the usual blackjack, baccarat, and craps tables, a sports betting room, and a smallish 10 table poker room. Other restaurants in the casino, not counting the food court eateries, include the Ivory Noodle Bar, Shuck It Oyster Bar, and The Spot American Diner. As far as the Motown Revue concert, I'll also go with a 3.49 star rating. The Halsted Ballroom has a stated capacity of 800 but we counted 552 seats. It was a comfortable setup albeit loud as the music was contained in a ballroom as opposed to an auditorium setup. The cover band and performers did a nice and entertaining job covering a lot of the classic hits from the Motown era. The performers covered hits by the Supremes, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and the Temptations. It was an entertaining and reminiscent evening for those of us who grew up in the 60's with this music.

The friendly staffed changed our rooms so we could shower. I wish their gravity didn't work either cuz the shower curtain hangs down and the curtain pools in the middle! Speaking of pools, the pool is drained and hasn't worked in months according to the reviews I'm reading now. Turns out we upgraded to an "Air-pool" at no extra charge Juice in the juice machine? Nah... In case of emergency, break glass. Not sure I want to know what emergency necessitated the fire extinguisher on my floor! But my $142.38 bill processed quickly, so at least that is working so I'll give it a 2 ;)

Even when I complained to Expedia that we had to call to get new towels, Expedia said the management wouldn't do anything to accommodate! Way to go Radisson. You're HORRIBLE and dirty! How do you expect you customers to stay in uncleaned rooms? Total DISGUSTING. That's why we left!
