Such a fun apple picking orchard, and a family friendly play area. There is a good variety of apple types. We went on a Saturday and took a tractor wagon rode to the picking location. It is a much better deal to purchase a full peck bag rather than a quarter peck. The apple cider donuts are a must. There was a food truck on-site that was really good. There is a nice area of tables and grass for a picnic. Will definitely come back for apple picking again. There are some goats, chickens and a donkey that my kids loved seeing. If you're looking for a no-frills apple orchard, Honey Hill hits the mark. When we went (early October 2022), there were still lots of big apples waiting to be picked. A short tractor ride gets you to where the apples await. We paid $10 per 1/4 peck bag. Each person entering the orchard needs a bag. You'll be able to fit 7-8 apples in each bag, depending on the size you're choosing. There's a small hay bale maze for kids (most kids just stand atop the bales and jump the gaps). There's also a goat you can pet. There are some food options - we saw one BBQ food truck. The donuts were A+. Although there are porta-potties, there are two permanent bathroom structures, though it didn't seem like they were cleaned frequently. The sink had permanent rust stains. While other orchards have more rides or attractions, if you want to scratch the apple-picking itch without enduring heavy crowds or a football field-sized parking lot, Honey Hill is a pleasant experience. read more

Overall: We can't wait to go back to Honey Hill in the future to pick more delicious apples! The good: TONS of apples/trees, which is great considering how many people go to orchards these days. There was plenty of parking and the COVID precautions were in full swing, which was comforting. Even at the beginning of October, they still had 4 varieties of apples to choose from, compared to only 1-2 with their competitors. The orchard is large so that there's plenty of space, and pumpkins to choose from as well if that floats your boat. The shop has plenty to choose from and of course there's a bakery with warm goodies. To top it off, there is a (apparently rotating) food truck if you need some fuel prior to picking. Amazing chicken fingers! The not-so-good: The prices are higher than we would've liked. We came here this last weekend. My daughter found this place which thank God for GPS because there was no straight routes. A lot of maneuvering through country roads etc. Very cool place for families. This is basically an Apple Picking excursion so make sure you have some apple baking skills or just really enjoy apples. They had an amazing little bakery there as well. We got a caramel nut apple pie which was to die for!! I had my first legitimate apple cider donut which was fantastic! Their barn store had an excellent array of homemade jams, apple & pumpkin butter, honey, etc. they had tons of different apple cookbooks and gifts. They had a taco truck which was great. Get to this place early because parking was at a premium on a weekend! Apparently no one minds driving out to Waterman to get their fill of cider, donuts, pie and other goodies (& that includes me). There's the "feeding trough" where you can nosh on goodies like cider (hot or cold), fresh donuts, cider slushies, cider floats, and pie a la mode. Then hit the bakery for take-homeables like pies (pretty pricey but darn tasty, though the Dutch Apple i bought had collapsed by the time I got it home) & more donuts. Indoors in the barn is more shopping: apple products and other local goods like jam, popcorn, and candy. You can pick apples yourself, or just buy in bags from the barn shop. No entrance fee at this place, unlike some of the other orchards around here, so if you're just planning to stop in for a slice of pie and do a bit of shopping, that's a draw. Today was a first. First for me visiting this cute venue and first time visiting an apple orchard. They have pick your own or you can buy already picked varieties. Had an apple cinnamon donut and coffee and then wow, needed to purchase a dozen donuts to go!!! So good. Cute little shops, bakery, and place inside for coffee, cider, hot chocolate and more. Best apple-picking experience we've had. Six varieties were available the day we went, and the staff actually encourage tasting the apples as you go. We initially bought 1/4 peck bags but quickly went back and purchased a full peck after starting to pick--they were that good. Frequent tractor rides to the different parts of the orchard ensured that you could pick any variety you want, though the golden delicious ran out toward the end of the afternoon. The staff members were very friendly, the grounds were well maintained, and the pie, cider, and donuts were unbelievably tasty (if you want to avoid things like high fructose corn syrup, however, ask the bakery cashier for the list of ingredients in baked goods). There are limited children's activities in addition to apple picking, but since we were there for the apples, that didn't concern us. We look forward to coming back next year! read more

We visited the farm the first week of regular season and did the pick your own raspberries. The raspberry bushes were pretty sparse due to a bad year but we had tons of fun searching for the good ones. To do the pick your own apples you have to take a tractor ride to the orchards so we opted out of that one. I loved browsing their store and bought Christmas presents of homemade jams and other goodies. Be sure to stop in the bakery because they have the best apple cider donuts I've ever had! They also have homemade pies that looked amazing but i couldn't go too crazy. We also bought a small jug of apple cider and as soon as we tried it, we regretted not buying the gallon. Amazing fall family fun. Was camping at Shabbona Lake and did a quick trip to the orchard for apple picking, fresh donuts and cider, a pumpkin, squash and way to many other goodies to mention. Went with a group of girlfriends and a couple babies and it was great! From apple picking, pumpkin patches and animals, definitely a great option, especially since you don't have to pay to get in. Even though it's not "as busy" as many other patches, there's definitely a possibility that it gets quite busy! One of my friends had to wait for someone to leave for a parking spot. You can wait to get a tractor ride to the U-pick, but honestly it's very walkable. No strollers are allowed at U-pick, so plan accordingly if you have a little one. It's a little bit of a drive if you're coming from the Chicagoland area, but definitely worth. The farm has both apple picking and raspberry picking (probably the best raspberries I've ever had). We went on a weekend that had pumpkin specials, so along with their fresh baked apple cider donuts they also had pumpkin donuts. They have a cute little shop filled with fresh honey, jam, homemade fudge, and other little trinkets. There is a little shop inside for snacks and a variety of apple cider drinks. Keep in mind while many spots within the Orchard take credit cards, this little food spot takes only cash and checks. That's the one piece I wish I had known going into it, I was hoping to try their apple cider slushy which everyone seemed to have in their hand. Have I ever told you how much I love Yelp? It's because of Yelp we found this awesome orchard out near DeKalb. It's a little off the beaten path, but 100x better than some of the orchards closer to the city of Chicago. The people working here are as nice as can be, and the cider donuts are worth the hour drive from Naperville. First, they don't charge admission and they don't nickel and dime you for every little thing like other orchards do. You take a hayride out to the growing area, and there are several varieties to choose from. The Saturday we went, we were able to pick Fuji and Cortland varieties. A 1/2 peck (about 5 lbs) was $13, and I think they said a full peck was like $22. For my kids and I, a half peck was plenty. There's also a store and bakery onsite. The store sells homemade cider, candy, and other snacks. The bakery sells the most amazing apple cider donuts I have ever tasted. I'm not a bug fan of donuts, but after trying these I'd eat them every day. They're homemade on site, and are like $9/dozen. On the drive back my kids and I ate 2 each, and finished our other 6 the next morning. These donuts should be in a donut hall of fame they are so delicious. They're nothing like Dunkin Donuts, and that's a huge compliment. The people working here were super-friendly and loved to talk. My kids and I really enjoyed this experience, I would highly recommend them. read more

2015 was already my third year coming back to pick apples here and I still feel like I'll be back next year. It is quite a travel from Chicago but what did you expect for real apple picking. There's not much I can really say that other reviewers haven't already said so I'll just bullet point my thoughts. -No admission fee, (I'm sold already) -Bakery for apple donuts, (2 dozen please!) -Shop for other goodies (authentic apple cider....MMmmmm) -Play place for kids made out of hay (Unfortunately I'm too old for this now....or am I....) -Farm animals to pet and feed (Love that donkey, what a silly guy) -Tractor brings you out to the apple trees (though it's close enough to walk still) -Can pick a pumpkin if need be -Can pick raspberries too (Though I've never done that) They have a variety of apple trees. Usually you can pick any of the apples, but sometimes they prefer for specific apples to grow a little more, but that only happened to me last year (darn jonagolds). To be honest though, I can't really taste the difference between the apples, so whatever I get is fine since they all taste delicious. It was like $15 for half a bag of apples (which is probably like 15 or so apples). A little pricey, yes, but it's more so for the experience and the home grown feel. I think I've been to Honey Hill Orchard five times already. I absolutely love this place. I'm a born-and-bred suburbs girl but being here makes me feel like I could kick off the shoes of corporate oppression and don some mud boots, sling some chow at the goats, and call it a day. Honey Hill is home to dozens of apple trees (in any variety you can think of), squash, pumpkins, raspberries, peaches, and decorative gourds. You can peruse the fields and pick your own everything, then bring it back, have it weighed, and pay cash for some delicious, locally-grown organic produce. We picked up two giant butternut squashes. I would have gotten more but I was there for the honeycrisp apples. These are located in the barn. I'm sad every single year they aren't available for U-Pick. There's something about their honeycrisp apples that stand heads and shoulders above any other honeycrisp I've tried. Also inside the barn are half gallon and gallon sizes of fresh apple cider, honey from their own beehives, CARAMEL APPLES (yes, they warrant all caps, they just kick that much ass). My only gripe is that the prices can get out of hand. I paid $15 for a half peck of HCA, but there were about 15 apples the size of a newborn's head in there so I guess I got my money's worth. They also have an awesome petting zoo with some adorable farm animals with stellar personalities (seriously, the goats are a riot). They have a few farm dogs too but they're usually just hanging out on the hayrides or generally being loafs. I envy their lives, to be honest. It's free to get in, so hurry up and go! read more

This is a simple no-frills orchard where you can get apples, doughnuts and see a few animals. Exactly what we wanted. We went on an absolutely beautiful Tuesday afternoon. There was maybe 20 other people here, but you would never have known. We bought a full peck, were told where they were and off we went. NO lines, NO rude staff, NO one hounding us... we picked for probably 20 minutes or more and didn't see another person picking. Perfect for photos. Very relaxing. We wandered down and went through the maze, looked at the donkey, goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs and bunnies. Bought some doughnuts. I was worried they would run out so I bought them first and ran them back to the car, but they had a steady stream of fresh-baked being restocked in the store. A nice selection of pre-picked apples, a great bee display, some gourds and indian corn to buy as well as honey and lots of Amish preserves. Such a delightful simple location! The only charge was for the bag we used to pick, not per person. I think it was 13 for 1/2 peck and 26 for full peck. Doughnuts were 9 for 12 and were excellent. The staff was friendly as were the resident dogs we saw wandering. They did have a tractor and "hay ride", not running when we were there, which was fine. Perhaps they do that on weekends or when trees being picked are further out, I'm not sure. We will definitely make this drive again next year to have a pleasant low-key, no-frills experience again. I hope they don't change like some have. Oh... one more thing, there were plenty of apples quite close to the ground making it very easy for my 2.5 year old to find and pick them on his own. I took my children ages 16, 13, and 7 a couple of weeks ago while the pumpkin patch and other attractions were still open. We had the best time! It was a bit of a drive from the western suburbs of Chicago, but totally worth it. We arrived close to the starting time, and even though it was a gorgeous day, we had the place almost to ourselves for about half an hour before crowds begin to form. Even once it got busy, though, it was still a delightful experience. The Family matriarch was warm and helpful and provided great service to us as we moved from the petting zoo where my kids fed the goats, to picking raspberries in the field together, to buying and eating absolutely delicious donuts.
