She had an assortment of oils and vinegars and even offered to pair some oils and vinegars together so we could see how they tasted combined. I was super impressed with all of the oils and we even walked out with quite a few bottles. The owner of the shop was the one to great us upon arrival and they gave us a tour of the interior and the small farm adjoining the shop. Before this shop I thought I hated lavender, I was dead wrong. The smell was herbal and floral- sweet not overwhelming. The selection of goods featured many items harvested fresh from the garden or hand dried. Even though it was a specialized ship the prices felt comfortable, with a lot of items available for under 20 dollars. The owners shear enthusiasm for their work made me happy and comfortable to be a patron.

This adorable little shop has everything lavender you can think of: neck pillows, essential oils, satchels, even sugar cookies and soda! Who could ask for more? The shop owner is so, so friendly and will answer any questions that you may have. My favorite thing to buy here is the Lavendin essential oil. It is the most potent and relaxing smelling (sorry about all the infinitive use lol) oil that I've purchased anywhere. The owner said the lavendin oil is stronger smelling than the lavender oil. In addition to the lavender goods, this cottage also sells clothes, the cutest baby things, and jewelry. And there are chickens in the garden area so don't forget to go say hi to them. Had to get some fudge so she could take some home to her husband, I got me some peanut butter balls, truffles, I could've stayed here all day, but literally found a fudge with nuts that I liked and grabbed it as well. Since I don't live near here, it was my chance to buy some of my favorite fudges in the Brookstown Fudge store. Mmmm!! I could smell the delicious scent of fudge down the streets of Helen. At first, it smelled like hot chocolate and I was craving some hot chocolate but it soon passed and I was wanting to eat some fudge samples and get my hands on some fudge! I tried the fudge with peanut butter. It wasn't my favorite. I wasn't really fond of the peanut buttery taste of the fudge. The Mississippi Fudge - had marshmallows and nuts (forgot what kind). It was too sweet for my taste buds so I just went with my favorites which were: - Fudge with Pecans - Fudge with Walnuts - Milk Chocolate Fudge Today it was buy 2 slices of fudge and get the third free deal!! The slices were half a pound for $6.95. Hooray for homemade fudge!! Well you know what I mean! Yay!!

I prefer salty over sweet foods and rarely even leave enough room in my stomach for dessert after a meal. However, I do enjoy very limited portions of sweet treats every now and then. Brookstown Fudge is a wonderful little family-owned business which has been open since 1977. My sister, Yoomee H., absolutely loves chocolate, so she makes it a point to stop here whenever we visit Helen. The fudge here is what I imagine to be the perfect flavor and texture - not too sweet and not hard but not too soft, either. Yummy. I love that they provide complimentary samples of various different types of fudge, including ones that contain nuts like pecans, almonds, and walnuts. They also have unique flavors like Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl and Cookies and Cream, to name a few. Personally, I stick to the basics and like the Plain Chocolate best. During our most recent visit on a Sunday afternoon, my sister bought two half-pound slices ($6.95 each) of fudge to get a third free. Yes, that's almost $14 (technically almost $21!) worth of fudge. Way too much, if you ask me, but she loves her chocolate. However, be sure to eat the fudge within a few days (if not sooner) because they will dry out and harden (totally agree with Andrea L.). Not good, so don't let it happen. Aside from the fudge, I did get my very first (and LAST) Candy Apple here a few years ago. Having seen candy apples on TV and movies, I thought the bright red, candy-coated apple on a stick would be somewhat similar to a caramel apple, meaning I thought it would be soft when I bit into it. No idea why, but I seriously thought that the "candy" on the apple would be like a thick, soft candy, so you can imagine I was in for a surprise. I HATE biting into hard candy, and when I bit into my candy apple for the first time, I thought my teeth were going to break. HAHA... Although it was fairly tasty, it was difficult to eat and ended up getting VERY messy. I vowed to never buy a candy apple again. (I'll have it if it's free. Teehee.) Overall, Brookstown Fudge gets 4 stars for their tasty namesake - fudge. I'm sure everything else is delicious, too, but again, I don't really crave sweets so I haven't tried much else here. The employees are usually pretty friendly, too, and don't give you dirty looks for sampling even if you don't end up buying. They're always too busy to worry about things like that. I highly recommend Brookstown Fudge, and they have the "Buy 2 slices, get 1 free" special often (if not always), so be sure to gather some friends and family to share it with. There is not one grocery store that you can go to around here that has all you need. Once you learn which of those that Aldi carries and which it does not then you can make Aldi your primary shopping location. For value you are not going to do better locally, some other places have the same items at literally double the price. The Aldi store brands can be hit and miss. The chips and candies are always hitting with some good taste and low prices. Some of the sauces are kind of bland which you don't know until you try and then maybe forget next time. All of the breads are at least good or better. The bagels are the best store bagels going and it is not even close. Except for the Hawaiian bagels, because why is there pineapple in a bagel? There are a couple downsides to shopping here. First, I don't know what is going on with stocking but sometimes the thing you want is just an empty space on the shelf. That doesn't happen all that often for my goods but when it does it is a bummer. The other downside is that for many items they are one and done. Find something you like, say the air fryer cheese curds. Those were good and I hope they bring them back. Those little turkey breasts are pretty good and for $10 you can get a few meals out of them. I recommend shopping at Aldi, and don't forget your Aldi quarter!

I mean.... ALL. A huge, steaming cauldron of boiled peanuts, 5 different kinds of apple cider, honey, pickled veggies and fruits, preserves, pork rinds... and lots of animal heads stuck on the walls. The Alpine Valley Complex is run by a friendly family who also owns a nearby waterpark and tubing business. As in, riding inner tubes down the river. Which the mister and I will definitely be doing this summer. Who's in? Beer, boiled peanuts, and a hot pink tube floating down the river is my kinda awesome summer day.

It has been a favorite of mine and my wife's for years, especially when I have a "hankerin'" for boiled peanuts. Their's just seems to be the best! The low star ranking comes as a result, however, of the recent trip we took a couple weeks ago when I purposely visited the store just before closing to pick up Sourwood Honey. Sourwood is my favorite and they seem to have a lot of it. I took it home and got into it and discovered a different taste than before. It has a bitter taste like Wildflower or maybe some other variety. I'm thinking they used another less-popular variety and mixed it with sourwood but whatever the case, it's not to the quality standard sourwood-lovers prefer. I hope for their sake they did not mix another variety as this would be my last jar of honey from them. Other than that, I wish them well with all they are doing there.
