Really decent Chinese takeout spot in NRH! I ordered takeout on a Fri night and it was definitely busy. They make you pay when you arrive so you have to wait in line with others who still need to order. When it's busy, you'd have to wait. The sesame chicken was decent, portion not as big but the chicken was flavored very well. The dumplings were really good; I especially enjoyed the sauce on the side, I drizzled it over the rice. Been coming here for 15+ years maybe longer. I didn't see the original owners so curious if they've changed. Regardless, the American Chinese food we ordered was still good. Nice to have a menu with huge variety. Sugar donuts were a little burnt this time but it didn't seem to bother the kids. Too much onions with the Mongolian beef but that's just my taste. Nice no frills restaurant with plenty of space for family and friends. Nice to see the prices haven't changed much even with inflation. Enjoy! read more

The staff was so kind and friendly but the food was atrocious. I ordered shrimp Egg Foo Young. It was absolutely disgusting and I stopped eating it after a few bites. It tastes like they use eggs in the carton. It was ultra thick, flavorless and the shrimp was severely overcooked and rubbery. The Vietnamese egg roll was soft and slimy instead of crunchy. The only redeeming item in my bag was the Egg Foo Young Sauce. However, I had to season that as well to add a bit more flavor. I wasted $16 and I'm still hungry. I ordered to go. When I called, the lady said they were next to Sally's -at least that is what I understood. They are not near Sally's. They are to the right of Mongolian BBQ in the far corner. When I entered the restaurant, it smelled like sewage. I immediately covered my nose. I said something to the lady ringing me up and she said the price of my meal. I mentioned it again and she said "I don't know". I said Oh, hope the food is good. I was a bit hesitant-my car never smelled of Chinese food-which I thought was weird. We were greeted warmly and came before 3 pm since Hong Kong Express has a daily lunch everyday 11-3 pm. We had the Kung Po Chicken and the Chicken Lo Mein. The lunch specials come with a delightful sides of egg rolls and soup. Yes, you heard that right and for only $8.99. The Kung Po Chicken was fire. The Chicken Lo Mein needed a bit more flavor on the chicken. I have to say the egg rolls were fantastic. We actually ordered another set of egg rolls because they were hot, thin crisp smooth skin, and a lot of delicious cabbage and stuff inside. Yummy! 5 out of 5 on those egg rolls. Oh...almost forgot...the hot sour soup came with those thing strips to add i to your soup. The best hot and sour soup in a long time. Yes indeed. Memorable meal. I ordered delivery for lunch during the week, and I ordered through the computer rather than calling. As soon as I pushed the "submit" button for my order, I realized I typed my email in wrong. So - no order confirmation - my fault entirely! And yet somehow, the delivery man found me, and delivered hot, fresh food with a smile. The Cashew Chicken was hot and tasty with plenty of sauce. The manager special came with the entree, two scoops of rice, and an egg roll. The only Chicken Chow Mein I've ever had was the Chung King canned stuff with the stick-like noodles that I had as a kid. Imagine my surprise and delight to get plenty of fresh, crispy and light noodles to accompany the vegetables. I'm ruined for the canned stuff now! The Crab Rangoon was tasty and delicious with plenty of crab and cream cheese. I didn't take a photo of the Thai Tea with Boba because it was so delicious that I slurped it down in a hurry - all 24 ounces of it! I was really excited to try this spot, based on the great reviews. Since moving to the area about 6 months ago, I haven't found "my" go-to Chinese spot yet. I ordered a few items (for lunch, and a couple of items to carry me through the rest of the week) - The Kung Pao Chicken Lunch special (came with rice, small soup - I opted for Hot & Sour - and an eggroll), Combination Fried Rice, a small Wonton soup (all were to go). I thought the pricing was pretty reasonable, the associate who took my order was pleasant & professional, the restaurant was clean, and what was cooking in the kitchen smelled delicious. Sadly, this is where my experience turns from great to so bad :(. I unpacked the lunch special and brought it to my desk so I could finish my lunch break. I started with the hot & sour soup. It tasted okay, and it had some of the flavor profile of that type of soup. For me, it was too bland - not enough hot (spicy) or sour - but it was edible. Then I moved on to the kung pao chicken, which came with rice (I chose steamed white rice instead of fried rice) and an eggroll. The eggroll, because it was placed in-between the rice, ended up becoming soggy and steamed. It basically became inedible. One bite, then tossed it out. I thought the flavor of the kung pao sauce was okay - more sweet than spicy - but decent. I counted 4 pieces of chicken - the rest was all vegetables. The ratio of chicken to the rest of the ingredients could have been a bit better...then I encountered a hair in the sauce, which made the dish completely inedible. Threw the whole thing out (so disgusting!). I'm afraid to look in the containers for the other 2 dishes I ordered...I feel like I've wasted my money. That could be how they serve it or someone just forgot to include it with the order. The hot and sour soup, I was most disappointed with. It was neither hot nor sour. I thought it might be egg drop by mistake, but it did have the mushrooms and tofu so I don't think so. Finally the szechuan beef was pretty good. A nice spice, the beef was tender and vegetables well cooked (but perhaps overly generous on those). Worst Chinese food I've ever had. I was looking forward to some really good General Tso's chicken. The food was apparently pre-cooked since my order was ready in less than ten minutes. The only thing that would let you know it was Gen. Tso was the 2 peppers in it. The sauce was very dark brown instead of more orange/ red in color. What happened HK xpress? You guys were so on point and my favorite. But the last two times I ordered from here it wasn't the best. One time I brushed it off to it being late and just barely making the cut off time for delivery. So I didn't expect the best . But last week; I ordered on a Monday. At around 5-6 pm. I thought I was good to go. And they did get the order correct and in a timely fashion; however the quality has sort of declined while the prices are higher; like everywhere else . I ordered pineapple chicken; and like the last order a few months back(which was probably sesame or orange chicken or general tzos--basically chicken is the same in all these dishes; fried) every. Single. Piece. Was the hard; impossible to chew, overcooked parts of the chicken that is all stringy and dry and gross? Like as if they used the bottom of the bag from the freezer or left overs. That's not acceptable even within the last hour that delivery is allowed; it def isn't acceptable at the beginning of dinner. I can see a few pieces like that but I'm not kidding every single piece of chicken was mostly this barely edible super dry hard to eat and over cooked parts of the meat. Not one piece was tender and how it should be. I ordered this with a side of lo mein and ; unfortunately, like the fried rice they serve--is incomplete. No cabbage or the traditional veggies that come mixed in to just basic lo mein just like their fried rice is just steamed rice with a few shakes of soy sauce mixed in. I dont like this practice as I feel it's deceptive and cheap. That's not fried rice and just noodles with soy sauce isn't lo mein. I realize it's not going to have meat mixed in and that's fine no one expects that but it SHOULD be served as a completed dish the standard way they are traditionally served. Especially when it's an add on and you're paying for it extra vs a dinner that comes with fried or steamed. Fried rice should have egg, peas and carrots. Lo mein should have cabbage and other veggies too. If panda express can serve it that way and they're the lowest quality Chinese chain; no excuses for anyone else charging more. Which brings me too the price hike. I ordered a small size pineapple chicken and the price for that on both the website and the paper menu is 9.99. It charged me 12.99. Before tax. So it's not the prices that are listed. Crab Rangoons were ok; but not as amazing as usual. They had mostly cream cheese and virtually no crab, green onion; etc. It just tasted like cream cheese in a fried wanton wrapper:( and these are my favorite. The only thing that was as good as it always is was the vegetable soup. Which is fantastic. But how long until that starts to decline as well? Seems like this place is cutting corners a lot now when before it tasted more homemade. As much as Chinese food can be. Now it seems like they've resorted to using all frozen pre made cheap crap and unless I want soup; time to go back to moonwok. read more
