    Traditional combo 1.
    V A.

Hong Kong Market: I always need to remind myself to not go to the deli. Last time I went the banh mi was not very good at all. I was craving a bahn mi sandwich and decided, why not. Let's give it a try again. The combo 1, traditional with pate and Vietnamese pork. Man the bread was at least a day to 2 days old. The pate was sweet and runny, bubbling in the sandwich. Man it was not good at all. They have a very nice menu, but the execution and quality of the sandwich is horrible. Never again for a sandwich here. Don't waste your money. They don't care at all and for $7.75 still cheaper than most places but the quality is as low as you can get. So get a bahn mi at your own risk...

Papaya salad, again no spice what so ever. To top it off the sauce is a sticky sweet sauce.

Bahn Mi without jalapeño and green papaya salad without Thai chili. I just got profiles for someone who cannot handle spice. Underrated and disappointing.

Gotta say this business' parking lot is so frickin' small and hard to navigate through! Not only does it get packed like crazy whenever we drop by, but people park so inconsiderately - over lines, taking up two spaces, leaving carts in empty parking spaces, etc. Now on to the store review - employees are not friendly, most of the Hispanics cannot speak or understand English that well and take way too long to prepare fish requests! The aisles are pretty narrow, so hard to take the cart around nicely. The small deli food items are good, only tried the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, so not sure how the others taste like. Selection of Asian foods are decent, but some of the veggies are limited and not as fresh looking. Try to avoid coming here, but it's the only close Asian store that has items that we really need to cook certain entrees at home. Otherwise, wouldn't come here at all.

Generic Asian supermarket (not a chain) with good selection of Asian produce and goods at a fair price. Be aware: both the inside and the parking lot are small, so if possible, avoid busy times (evening and weekends) for a less stressful experience.

The "after" picture.. after I added a few things to make it something that would really be yummy.. something pork next to it..

I like Hong Kong market.. it has interesting things in it that aren't usually in regular American grocery stores.. the seafood and meat selection is awesome, at least in my opinion.. for what other people consider a smaller Asian market. I'm becoming a regular with the Vietnamese sandwich I guess..

Great prices with a great selection of seafood and veggie options. The fruit selection is great too.

Rotten Fish from Hong Kong Market (Kent, WA)
    Steve A.

I recently went to this Hong Kong Market and asked to have a couple of fishes cleaned. The seafood customer service guy weighed the fish, cleaned, bagged it, and gave it to me. Once I get home, I opened the bag, and this is what I got. Rotten fishes; the meat falls apart from the bones, and it smells! I wish they would have mentioned something. I felt cheated by this Vietnamese owned store. Shopper beware.

What does the deli serve when they open at 8 in the morning ? How about the BBQ counter at 8 in the morning?

I can't seem to get thru to place a deli order. Phone seems to not be in service. Does anyone have a good number to call?

I went a couple weeks ago and tried to order a shawarma but I must have came to early bc they were not ready. So today I decided to try again. I ordered the combo and the digital menu shows the combo as $14.99 but it rang up at $15.99. Not a big deal but the digital board should be updated. If you order online, the price does show for $15.99. The cashier was okay. Not as friendly with me as she was with others. It was like I was bothering her by ordering food. The gentleman who was in the back cooking my food was pretty friendly though. Honestly, based on the experience with the cashier it would be pretty easy to not rush back. But the shawarma was just good as I remembered. The chicken was juicy and extremely flavorful. Now that I work closer to this location, it will definitely be in rotation for me. The samoon was calling my name on this visit but I will definitely have to wait until next time and get it with some hummus. You can order the shawarma on the samoon also.

All of the wonderful foods that are produced. But the products and spices necessary to produce these unique dishes are not found in your typical Western-based grocery store. And often times, these products must follow strict religious sanitary rules. There must be a grocer that can carry these sundries to make your dish what you remember from home. In comes the International Food Bazzar! Located on the northern Kent border in the industrial park area, this deceptively large grocery holds products from the Middle East, India, Pakistan, and a few others representing South Asia. The store is Halaal certified, and for those looking for that regional specific product from that region, it is most likely here. Going in, I was not prepared for excitement that I felt walking when I walked in to find the spices and curries I was looking for but could easily not find in a western North America based grocery store. Even the frozen food section was a treat: frozen Naan bread, frozen Saag Paneer to take for lunch, and brands of 25 pound bags of basmahti rice. Let's not forget the busy butchery section preparing several Halal cuts for the long line of customers, all awaiting their turn to put their personal request in. It's a great relationship that is forged. As someone who wants to eat as authentically as possible without the America-substituted analogs, I have found joy in this place that can make my dishes shine the way they were intended. South Seattle's food scene has seen a remarkable transformation in the past year, largely driven by…read morethe growing Afghan diaspora. At the heart of this change is a place i simply can't overlook, Queen Safa Market and Deli. This supermarket is massive and stepping inside genuinely felt like entering another universe. Markets like this are common in larger U.S. cities, but in Seattle? Rare. Naturally, I headed straight to the deli section (of course i was there for afghan food!), but curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to know more about the story behind this new market, and started strolling around. One thing that immediately caught my eye waa their pizza master in action, spinning dough up high in the air, prepping a massive 22-inch halal chicken pizza. I had to try it. And wow, it was delicious, so good. The crust was soft with the perfect thickness, topped with well-seasoned chicken and vegetables. When I asked how long he's been making pizzas, he smiled and said, "10 years." Well i could taste the experience. Of course, no visit to an Afghan spot is complete without my favorite dish -- Qabuli Pilau. Made with a tender lamb shank, it was cooked perfectly. And here's something that really stood out -- the rice and oil they use are from their own brand: Queen Safa. They import and package their essentials under their label , something I haven't seen in any other Seattle market. That's not just impressive -- it's game-changing. Step outside and you'll immediately be hit with the aroma of kababs grilling over open flames. I ordered the lamb tikka kabab with warm, fresh Afghan bread. The quality of the meat was fantastic. The tikka had that classic Afghan subtle seasoning though personally, I'd have loved just a touch more flavor. Still, very good with high quality meat. Speaking of bread, their bakery section is something else. The entire kitchen is visible, so you get to see the action as it happens. Giant ovens working non-stop, multiple dozens of Afghan breads baking at once, and a variety unlike anything I've seen elsewhere in the greater Seattle area. While I came for the food, I left impressed by so much more, afghan carpets, traditional clothing, clay pottery (and at reasonable prices!), crockery, imported spices, grains, oils, snacks... truly, they have everything. And this is just the beginning, i could see the butchery still on its way to be finished. Once fully set up, Queen Safa is well on its way to becoming the largest halal supermarket and deli in the Seattle area. With their in-house brand and growing presence, it's more than just a market, it's a brand emerging from the city itself. I know they recently became fully zabiha hand slaughtered halal, but please do your due diligence to confirm
