Bubble Tea!!!

I wasn't able to see anything at the Theatre, but the coffee shop they have (I think it's new) has the most amazing Thai Bubble Tea I've EVER had. What is that stuff you guys put in it!?

The Superman. Yum, yum, yum!!!

6 dollar films in a charming old theater. And the popcorn was delicious and cheap. Can't do better than that!

Friendly people. Very retro inside. Hipsters will love this place. Great smoothies. Warm ambiance.

This theater could definitely use some renovations. Poor overall cleanliness. The ceilings are…read moreexposed and covered in dust. Theater screens are filthy, it looks like someone threw drinks at the screen and now it's moldy. The air conditioner is very humid and stuffy. Theaters with cloth covered seats feel damp (maybe from humidity) and disgusting. I can also hear the sound of the other theaters playing during the movie. Being that it's a small town and there's only one theater it would be nice if it wasn't so dated. On the other hand the employees are always friendly and helpful. They keep the restroom and lobby area clean. The concession has a good selection of snacks and drinks including alcohol.

I saw "Wicked" here Nov. 29 -- my first time in this theater. It may be the worst-run movie theater…read moreI've experienced in 68 years of living. I habitually arrive early, so I went into the theater and got into the refreshment line at 6:40, 20 minutes before the 7 pm show I had a ticket for (I had bought my ticket online about a week prior). It was crowded, as one might expect on a holiday weekend. And the line moved incredibly slowly: I finally had my drink and candy at 7:10, starting to worry that if I didn't get to my seat soon, I might miss the start of the movie. I glanced again at my ticket: Auditorium 5, seat E15, headed there immediately and went straight into the theater. But something was clearly wrong: The prior movie had just ended, final credits still rolling, at what was now about 7:13. And it clearly wasn't "Wicked." What the...? I looked around, didn't immediately see any helpful signage, so I asked a kid from the cleaning crew that was just entering the auditorium between shows. He said that "Wicked" was on screen 6, so I headed over there -- only to find that in that auditorium THERE WAS NO SEAT E15!!! Most of the audience was seated and trailers had started, but I had no seat. I looked frantically for anyone who looked like a manager -- no luck. So I went back to no. 5, bothered the cleaning crew again, and one of them said he could change my ticket. He looked up the show and found that a few seats were unsold, and gave me one of them. I finally got a seat -- not as good a seat as the one I'd paid for, but at least a seat -- about 30 seconds before "Wicked" started. There's no excuse for this. They had my email and had sent me my ticket that way. They could have notified anyone who had bought a ticket that the show had been moved to a different screen and seats might need to change, but apparently no one thought of it or cared enough to notify paying customers. I have no clue whether this place is always run this ineptly, but I will do my best not to find out.

We visited both Down the Hatch (fast-casual seafood and American food) and Breakwall Shave Ice…read moreCompany twice on our last trip to Maui. Both are located here at The Wharf Cinema Center Shops & Restaurants. This is a three-story shopping plaza located on Lahaina's popular and touristy Front Street, directly across from the historic banyan tree. It's the largest banyan tree in the United States: https://www.yelp.com/biz/lahaina-banyan-court-park-lahaina. Free parking is located directly in front of the center on Front Street. Free parking is also available on nearby side streets. Paid parking is available in the center's garage, accessible behind the building via Luakini Street. I think some businesses may validate parking in the garage, but I'm not sure. We street-parked during both of our visits, once on Front Street and once on Hotel Street. This is a happening place thanks to a combination of tourists on the street plus an assortment of destinations and events inside the center. Down the Hatch and sister shave ice shop Breakwall, next door, are highly-rated and deservedly so. I recommend them: https://www.yelp.com/biz/down-the-hatch-maui-lahaina-3. We visited for dinner first, then lunch the second time. Both times, this shopping center was busy, outside in. Outside, there are street vendors and an information booth. Inside, there are multiple courtyards and a plaza. We spent most of our time dining on the below-street "Plaza Level." It was beautiful. The plaza has a koi pond that snakes its way through, surrounded by lush, colorful flora. The plaza is shared by Down the Hatch, Breakwall Shave Ice Company, and other businesses. Down the Hatch has a bar on the plaza. The restaurant's customers probably utilize the communal plaza seating way more than any other Wharf business. BTW, Down the Hatch was founded by three guys from Georgia, where I'm from. For our Saturday night dinner visit, there was live music on the middle level - "Wharf Level" - courtyard. This place is open-air, well-connected via multiple sets of stairways, and has good views throughout. It's a charming little, laid-back, hangout spot. Mexican restaurant and bar Amigo's (https://www.yelp.com/biz/amigos-lahaina) has a great view of the Wharf Level courtyard and stage. One of my nieces, only eight years old, liked the live musician, Down the Hatch, and Breakwall. She made a special point to go back upstairs and applaud/thank the musician before we left and she asked us multiple times after our first visit if we could go back to Down the Hatch. I thought that was cute. The Wharf is family-friendly. Aside from the aforementioned, restaurant cuisines at The Wharf include Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese, and there are a couple cafes. As far as shops and services go, there are about 30 of those. They include clothing stores, gift shops, jewelry stores, specialty/boutique shops, and services like massages at Aloha Thai Massage: https://www.yelp.com/biz/aloha-thai-massage-lahaina-8. This place isn't fancy or anything. Just a humble collection of businesses.
