This farm was amazing. We were greeted by a the nicest staff member who gave us a brief rundown on the rules. We bought some feed for a small fee. I wish we could have spent more time there, but we had to leave for Maunakea. The baby goats touched my soul. They were so well behaved, so cute and so loving. Most of them were so gentle taking each feed by hand. No biting or nipping. There were a few very small timid gentle ones. These especially stole my heart. I highly recommend this for everyone , and if you visit you should really support their cause. read more

Such a great stop on our Big Island trip, Honomu Goat Dairy is a hidden gem! The gal working there was super kind and welcoming, and she let us sample all the different goat cheese flavors. You can tell she really cares about the farm and the animals just good vibes all around. We ended up grabbing the Original and Big Island Spice goat cheeses... both were creamy, not too pungent, and so ono, especially with the $1 crackers they sell on the side (definitely worth it). Perfect little snack while enjoying the view. Also picked up some of their goat milk chapstick which was such a cute little find and super moisturizing (& only $4) If you're driving through Honomu or heading to Akaka Falls, this place is totally worth the quick stop. This was such an amazing experience for the whole family!!! We were on the way to the falls when I saw goats and had to jump out of the car for them. Best decision ever!! We got to play with the big goats and baby goats , it was awesome. My baby met a tiny baby goat who kept trying to chew her zipper. It was incredibly adorable. We bought some food to feed the goats, that was fun. The food was cheap and the bigger goats were persistent. The baby goats don't care for the food. There were turkeys and ducks on the property too. I know turkeys in NY are vicious and terrorize everyone but wow, the turkeys here are nice and enjoying life. The little shop there also sells amazing caramel candies!! Definitely buy them! Nice stop on the way to or from Akaka Falls. Look for the bright little hut with goats fenced in alongside the hut. Inside you will find a little treasure chest of treats. Initially we stopped for the most delicious sacred caramels made with goat milk which was recommended to us. Also took home a container of kim chee goat cheese...so amazing! When driving to 'Akaka Falls, we saw the sign that said "play with baby goats!" and I said turn this car around NOW!! We had such a wonderful time! The goats were so friendly and loved people. After our time with the goats, we stopped inside and picked up some goodies! One of us had a heat rash, and the other got sunburnt on the lip, the goat milk soap and chap stick worked almost instantaneously, and were very affordable! The staff was so welcoming and helpful, I would definitely bring my friends and family back again, next time I'll stop by at the beginning of my trip so I can get some of the delicious dill goat cheese! read more

What an amazing place! It's free and if you want to feed them, the food is $1 for a container. Fun for the whole family... and don't feel like you need to have a kid with you to enjoy. This adorable goat dairy farm is a must stop when we are in the Hilo side of the island, especially on our way to Akaka Falls. The kids enjoy feeding the goats but we really enjoy the yummy eats they offer. The staff is always friendly and gives us samples, which makes us want to buy everything. And of course, we always leave with caramels and goat cheese. And they also sell crackers, so you can enjoy your cheese outside at their shaded tables. The flavors of the caramels change, as well as the cheese. So you'll need to call ahead to find out if your favorite is available. Honomu Goat Dairy! Well...I am a huge sucker for any type of animal farm. And this...a goat farm with a chance to feed, pet and make nice with baby goats? 6 stars from me! I had such a terrific experience here. I'd say I took about 200 photographs of myself and all the baby goats. Alright...let me calm down and give some details... Honomu Goat Dairy is conveniently located 3 miles down the road from spectacular Akaka Falls State Park. And Akaka Falls is the tallest waterfall in Hawaii. So...visiting Akaka Falls at 8:30am and then strolling over here to Honomu Goat Dairy which opened at 10am was the quintessential perfect pairing for spending a few hours doing fun and worthwhile attractions. Btw, for both Akaka Falls and this Honomu Goat Farm, simply plug both destinations into Google Maps and with good cell phone reception on The Big Island of Hawaii, you'll easily be guided to both of them. Also, they're roughly both situated about 20 miles north of the major town of Hilo, HI. For me, I was staying in Hilo so I woke up one morning and casually made it to both spots with even enough time to then venture 42 miles south and spend the 2nd half of the day exploring around Hawaii Volcanoes National park. Overall, what a very very very fulfilling day here on The Big Island! This Honomu Goat Dairy is not open every day. They're actually closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. But Fridays through Mondays they are open 10am - 5pm. When arriving, simply stop in at the little house/cabin where you'll receive some basic instructions about going into the backyard area of the farm/enclosure to play with the baby goats. It is free to go in the back at your own leisure and spend as much time as you'd like. They only charge $1 per bag of food to feed the goats some sort of pellets. How cheap! The lady who I was speaking with just mentioned to sanitize my hands before entering, to not pick up the goats and to be aware that they'll chew on any items you may bring with you. I had a knapsack with me and I completely understood what the girl meant. These goats will chomp on anything! But...well worth it. They're so sweet and innocent natured...with their floppy ears. It's not often I say this ever...but I fell in love at first sight! Yep...even I can fall hard fast! Lol. I purchased 3 bags of food and that was more than enough to go around. When I entered the yard, the moment the goats noticed the bags in my hands they knew what was coming. They immediately ran over to me and it was a frenzy. The goats were so excited to be fed they were practically trying to tear the bag open out of my hands! A good idea I did was empty the pellets into my back pocket and toss the white paper bags away. This way when I was ready to feed them on my own accord, I simply reached into my back pocket. I definitely made my rounds around the farm. I made nice with all the goats. I think I got the chance to feed them all. Interestingly, the adult goats were separated into their own area away from the babies where there were warning signs to leave them alone. But these babies were really friendly. They happily placed their front paws onto my chest. They begged for the food and vacuumed up the pellets real fast with an insatiable appetite! Of course for me, I was trying to give them kisses but the goats were extremely fidgety and hard to get to keep still. Lol, sometimes I just had to grab their heads and keep them still to give kisses while snapping photos. Ultimately, it did work, hehehe, but these goats made me work for ideal photographs! I used about 1 hour just hanging out and talking with my newfound friends. It's experiences and moments like these at a goat farm that truly brings me joy and happiness. I love animals and having the opportunity to play and exchange pleasantries with the goats was beyond fulfilling! And...especially after coming from wondrous Akaka Falls next door, I was in a pure bliss state of mind! I visited on a Sunday in the middle of March. It wasn't even busy, there were barely any other tourists here besides me. So basically I had the goat's attentions all to myself. Granted, I didn't even know this Honomu Goat Dairy existed prior to overhearing someone mentioning it at Waipio Valley lookout (which is a beautiful overlook vista point about 25 miles away from here). Before leaving I paid the $3 for the bags of food plus I bought a couple of pieces of homemade caramels for $2. Finally, because I'm such a huge fan of animal preservations and overall goodwill farms towards animals...I happily gave an extra $10 for the sake of contributing to the farm's upkeep and well being. It was probably the best $10 I had spent along all of my Hawaii travels, lol. Welp. That's it. This is the fantastic Honomu Goat Dairy. I'm so thankful I discovered it and got to spend time here. For me, the only true innocent things in this chaotic world are little children and animals. read more

So my friend had told me about this farm almost a year ago and I was finally able to visit and catch my goat thrills. Those closest to me know I have an affinity for goats and this place didn't disappoint. When we got there, we visited the store and met the owner and were told because it was so rainy we couldn't go in the back field but was able to feed baby goats in the front fenced area. The goats are so adorable, Nubian goats with big floppy ears and soft fur. My family and I bought packets of food and enjoyed feeding them. We bought cheese, caramels and honey. The caramels are so delicious, you can't tell it's from goat milk. The cheese was also yummy and enjoyed the dill and garlic flavors on crackers. I definitely want to come back here and visit again, hopefully on a sunny day so I can spend some one on one goat time in the fields. read more

We love visiting animal farms while on vacation.  We were driving from Kona to Hilo and this was the perfect stop to stretch our legs for some goat therapy! The day we visited, all the goats were rescued from highways in Kona. They are super friendly and food motivated.  There were more goats on the other side of the fence, also some turkeys, ducks, and chickens roaming all around. They do have a bathroom for you to use as well.  As much as we love goats, we normally do not eat goat milk's food items.  The owner was super sweet and had us tasted some homemade goat cheese and we were sold! So delicious and creamy and does NOT taste like made from goat milk.   We end up buying some soap and some delicious caramels.  You will leave with a big smile on your face. Win Win! read more

You had me at "goat therapy"! Stopped by here after hiking the falls. We were missing our dogs and were happy to love on these goats. Not sure if the person we spoke to was the owner or not, but she was friendly. You can feed the goats for $1/cup, we got two cups. As soon as you round the corner the goats are there and they come right up to you. So cute and cuddly. There were a few kids too! My husband and and I both bonded with two separate white goats. I bought a shirt before we left, $19 for any size. My husband was kicking himself for not getting one too. We may just go back. Definitely the best part of our trip this far! read more

My cup was so full after visiting the Honomu Goat Dairy.  Goat therapy is definitely a thing.  We saw their cute signs on our way to Akaka Falls and decided to stop by.  It is just $1 for a cup of goat snacks to feed and pet the goats.  I loved spending time with the baby goats, they were so cute.  There were three babies on the day we went and about five adult goats.  The adult goats were able to jump on their playground tires and exhibit their agility and maneuverability.  The goats are very gentle and if you hold out your hand with the food, they will be happy to eat it from you.  They do get a little excited and try to get your attention by putting their front legs up on your body.  It doesn't hurt at all and is quite cute.   Honomu Goat Dairy also has goat milk caramel and fudge that you could buy for your trip home.  They sell goat milk soaps, t shirts, tote bags, and a cute goat stuffed animal.  The staff are so friendly and help to explain everything to you before you enter the goat area.  We couldn't find parking in the immediate area next to the house, so we parked on the road and walked into the site.  Overall, I highly recommend stopping to visit with the goats.  I literally couldn't stoop smiling and talking about this for my whole trip.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. read more

First thing, if you are near by this, please try their caramels. They are THE BEST. It is a small family owned and they allow visitors to spend some time with the goats for free. This is a cool farm,where get an opportunity to pet and feed goats. They make goat cheese and chocolates with with the goat milk. And I was stole they will be starting goat yoga soon. We were coming from the waterfall and had five minutes until closing. They were so sweet to let us in and they did not rush us. when we went over time and they waited for us quietly by the gate. They have a small parking area in they have bathrooms. They also sell and make soap. There was some soap drying in the bathroom it smelled so good. They have A white picket fence area where you can go in and feed and pet the goats. They food to feed the goats if you like for a small fee. The goats are super friendly. They jump on you for the food and Chew on your clothes and hair if you get close enough. Honomu Goat Dairy will forever by on my list of places to stop whenever I'm in Hilo. Baby goats, goat cheese, chocolates, and soaps- what more could you ask for? The main attraction is the baby goat play yard- which is totally free! You will want to purchase goat food for $1 from the Tiki Shack to bribe the baby goats for love and attention. I did fall in love with a particular fluffy cow colored goat- that was only 6 weeks old! I thought it was true love... until I ran out of food. I couldn't help but think "What an awesome business idea, I wonder if anyone would pay to feed my pets at home". I digress... the baby goats here are super cute and you can see the older goats in the field adjacent to the baby goat play yard. The whole area is really beautiful- looking over the ocean on the Hamakua Coast. The staff here are really nice, offering samples of their goat cheeses, fudge, and caramels. They also sell other local goods and you can really feel the commitment Honomu Goat Dairy has to the community. There's a few parking stalls and this place can get pretty busy since they are only open a few days a week Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10 am -5pm. read more

Priceless! We absolutely loved this stop on our staycation and will be back for more goat therapy soon. I never realized how close this goat dairy is to Hilo. I'm kicking myself that it took us this long to figure that out! We have a 3 year old and he was just in little baby goat heaven. He was running around going "my baby!!" and the goats were so sweet and tolerant of his petting, chasing and feeding them (just $1 for a good sized little bag of goat treats). One goat totally ate a little hole in my dress so don't wear your fanciest clothes! I kind of love that I will be reminded of the baby goats every time I wear that dress now, haha. There is a cute little store with lots of great gifts to bring home to friends/family like goat milk soap, tote bags, stuffed animal goats, shirts and tea. The goat cheese itself is so delicious and fresh! They offer samples in the little store. We bought plain and garlic/chive goat cheese to make a delicious charcuterie board in our Airbnb. They also sell crackers there. We bought a few goat milk salted caramels which are so heavenly! Wow. They had plain and Kona coffee with smoked salt flavors in the day we went, and we got to sample them before buying. Wow, they are so good. Love love love this place!!!! Passed this on the way to Akaka Falls State Park and thought it was a neat idea, so on the way back we stopped. Sooo not disappointed!! I mean who doesn't love a petting zoo or goats? Put those together with a shop where you can but goat products such as fudge and that's Honomu Goat Dairy. You can buy crackers to feed the birds and you can buy feed for the goats. You can go in and pet the goats for free, but seriously who wants to do that without buying something to feed them? The birds and goats know that you bought something to feed them and the anxiously await you to feed them (birds by picnic table and goats behind the fence). Well the goats are very friendly and will eat out of the food cup when you hold it out, I must mention that they do jump up on you. It is known to rain and you will get cute muddy hooves marks all over your pants, shorts, and shirt. Later on in the day you may look like you pooped your pants!! We had a lovely visit with Bill & Mary Henning at their goat farm near Akaka Falls on the Big Island. This little roadside stand sells products produced on their farm here. Due to the recent torrential rains, the goats could not be milked and so they dried up (Farmers will understand this)...so no goat cheese at the time we were there. But, absolutely delicious, melt in you mouth caramels and fudge!! Bill and Mary are very personable, making for fun interaction with local people. You can pet the goats too! read more
