On a Saturday afternoon I was invited to take a little trip to Granite City. Since I had never been before I couldn't resist. The menu is not a great reason to visit for someone who doesn't eat tacos; however, when I found out they had margarita's I knew I'd have a good time. Upon arriving I noticed how much of a "hole in the wall bar" this really was. It is located in a random neighborhood and I think it was the only bar around for miles. In fact, I think it might be the only bar in GC! The inside does not allow smoking which was pretty great for me. There are some pictures on the walls and they do have a few tv's to show games if needed. By the looks of this place I assume it has been around for quite some time. It has a good vibe to it though. I'm sure I'll go back next time I get invited. They have a small kitchen in the back, a mid sized bar, and restrooms are located down the hall. When we arrived we were able to find a table that had room for all 6 of us. An order was placed for the guys to eat some tacos and then the bartender began working on my margarita with a salted rim. The service was pretty great and my drink was perfectly mixed. I even had another once the first was gone. By the time the tacos arrived the guys were pretty hungry and 30 tacos seemed to disappear pretty fast; but before they could dig in I requested to take a photo so that I could document the amount of tacos! I mean, I have never in my life seen that many tacos on one plate before. Crazy! They even provided some pico de gallo for dipping. By the sounds of the tacos were enjoyed by all. I asked for reviews and they were all in agreement that these were some pretty great tacos! Overall, this was a pretty fun trip. The guys enjoyed their tacos, I enjoyed my margarita, and we all enjoyed the company! This is a fun spot and I can tell that a lot of regulars go here. The servers all knew their customers and it seems like a pretty great bar if you are ever in the area!

If you know, you know. And when you do, you'll have the time of your life…read more Heads-up, the signage of this classic 1920's themed bar is minimal. There's a small sidewalk sign and then you have to figure out how to open the door from the street. Once inside the small butcher shop, you gotta figure out where the secrete passage is. Once inside, you'll be blown away by the vintage 1920's ambiance. There's approximately 4 or 5 stools at the bar and several seating areas with plush sofas and overstuffed chairs. If you prefer a table with chairs, they've got that, too. Whatever you like, you can find a comfortable seat to enjoy your cocktail. The cocktails are masterfully made and served up in classic vintage glasses. I enjoyed a Dirty Gin Martini and a Rye Manhattan. Both cocktails were smooth as silk and the presentation was stellar. I gotta go back and have another Martini, I forgot to take a picture. It looked so good, I just started drinking. When I typically order a Martini, I tell the mixologist to "make it skate". Chatting with the bartender about what Gin to use, I forgot to request that detail. To my delight, when the cocktail was placed in front of me, it had the "make it skate" detail. I love that thin topping of ice chips on my martini. While sipping classic cocktails, sometimes you need a little nosh and The Speakeasy has that, too. I choose the Spinach Artichoke Dip and it was rich in flavor. The mixture of the artichoke with the spinach in cream cheese went perfectly with the super thin crackers. I hope they are still offering it when I go back for another martini. The two bartenders were exceptional. Both of them were very personable, making my time sitting at the bar enjoyable. If you haven't been, go find The Speakeasy and then you'll know.

I ordered one of the gin specials as it was National Gin Day. The drink was delicious and beautiful, so I ordered two! This is my kind of place, darker and quiet without too many people, and a super fun ambiance. The bartender, I believe she said her name was Carrie, was very helpful and friendly. I ordered the charcuterie board and it was beautifully presented and large as well. I will be back, with friends!
