Happy employees. Lots of kindness and smiles. Think "Disney Land"!…read more It was a real treat to ride the train. Everyone was nice. We even sat next to "Flintstone" fans. My kind of people. The train stopped at the Fruit Factory gift shop. There were lots of choices for a souvenir or gift. Also in the same location is a winery. I used their bathroom sink to wash my hands and ..,.. the faucets were so cool. The site to see is that you are standing between Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood. While riding the train, we saw lots of nature, trees, rivers to see along the way and back. The train ride is a must. I would love to go again.

I highly recommend this for anyone with little ones, but honestly there were more parties of older folks, including seniors who were taking this and all seemed to enjoy it. They give out a hot chocolate and a seasonal cookie to all on the train so I found having a table seat to be very helpful, but to save money you can sit on one of the cars without tables. There are also dates when they're not as busy that will save you some cash. Near the end of the ride (~1.25 hrs) Santa and his elves came on board the train and interacted with everyone, delighting the children in particular. They have an on-board photographer and will email you pictures you can purchase if you desire. Highly, highly, highly recommend this at Christmas time .

It is such a beautiful and scenic drive each and every time going through the Columbia River Gorge!…read moreIt's something I never tire of and there are so many things to go see both on the Oregon and Washington side of the Gorge. One of the most notable places to stop is Multnomah Falls. It's a highly popular place and it is certainly understandable as to why but it is best to go early. You may even need to look into getting a reservation in order to get a parking space as well... because yes... it is actually that popular all year round. There are so many cute little towns through the Gorge as well. Hood River is a favorite of ours and I believe it's a favorite for a lot of people but Cascade Locks is nice as well and the Washington side has cute towns as well. On the Oregon side is Interstate 84 but don't explore this Interstate or route as a quick, brisk route to get east to west (or vice versa) as you cannot go typical Interstate speed through the Gorge. The curvature of the road and through this long stretch simply doesn't allow you to do that so it would be worth looking into alternate routes as possible if quickness is the only thing in mind otherwise you kind of just have to endure the reduced speeds. The Columbia River itself one doesn't have to repeat how beautiful it is but it's understandable if you do. River activities never fail to mesmerize. Like the group of people we once saw sailing down the river with boogie boards ( perhaps there's another name for it I'm not in the know with that) and the almost other worldly appearance of numerous fisherman on boats once fishing season was in full swig in the early morning. It's something one can never get tired of, The Columbia Gorge and I enjoy it each and every time I drive through it. It's breathtaking and truly one of essential drives to partake if visiting Oregon.

It is a great way to get your steps in while surrounded by nature at its finest. There a number of waterfalls in this area and if you don't have time to get out and hike, there are some that can be seen from your car while driving by. We spent most of a day driving and hiking to the waterfalls using a map we got from the visitor center. It was raining during our visit, but we still got to see some beautiful scenery. There's a restaurant at Multnomah Falls Lodge in case you are looking for a place for lunch while in the area.

We were overcharged for what was advertised as a curated, prepaid wine tour -- yet what we got was the complete opposite. Our driver, Lisa, was completely unprepared and clearly had no idea what she was doing. She didn't even realize that one of the wineries she was supposed to take us to was closed. That alone shows a total lack of planning or professionalism.  Lisa failed to communicate with the wineries ahead of time (which was supposed to be part of her job), and it was obvious she hadn't done any due diligence for our scheduled stops. The entire tour felt like it was being thrown together on the spot, and for the price we paid, that's simply unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend this tour to anyone -- not tourists, not locals, not even casual wine drinkers. There are so many great experiences to be had in the Hood River area. This just isn't one of them!

The guides (Kaela, Laurie, Dustin, Mike and Nate) worked like dogs to make the trip safe, fun for kids and relaxing for the adults. There was coffee ready every morning. Delicious breakfast. Yummy lunch. Great dinners with plenty of beer, wine and sodas. Laurie, our "Food Dude," was even kind enough to bring along Pringles as a special request/treat for the kids. We ended up asking Echo to supply our tents and sleeping bags. I read the earlier review about a sandy tent, but ours were clean and in good condition. It made the trip all the more relaxing for our family to not have to worry about packing our camping gear. We just threw our clothes in a bag and were ready to hit the water. As an aside, my husband is a seasoned drift boater/rafter who has been on the Rogue (and many other rivers) on his own many times. He was hesitant about going on a guided trip, but was pressured into it by me - a mom who wanted some down time from cooking, prepping, etc. His one complaint was that he couldn't drink beer while on the river. Of course, this is a safety issue, so he gets it overall and enjoyed his time otherwise. I think it is a testament to the entire Echo team that he ended up having a great time and would love to travel with them again. If you are looking to take a trip on the Rogue (or Salmon!) River, I highly recommend that you consider Echo.
