There's no entrance fee, but parking fee needed. I've visited in both winter and summer, and the experience was quite different. In winter, it was extremely windy, while the summer (mid June) visit was pleasantly cool with almost no wind, making it much more comfortable to explore. The upper level was closed during our visit, but we still able to visit the basement, there's a small museum, souvenir shop and a café. The staffs were very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, making the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely worth a stop if you're driving along the Historic Columbia River Highway.

The 35 mile loop in Hood River Valley is peppered with farms and vineyards, many with farm stands or tasting rooms so you can sample and purchase the heavenly fruits, jams, pies, wines, hard cider, flowers and treats along the way. For me the ride is as exhilarating as the farm stands. Around every corner you catch glimpses of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, depending on the direction you're heading, snow capped and standing tall and proud against a bright blue sky with rolling hills and vineyards in the foreground. As you head up 35, Mt. Hood becomes so large it spans the entire windshield of your car. Pull over on the side shoulder for some magnificent snapshots. During spring the hills are white and pink from the fruit tree blossoms creating incredible landscape images that are instagram worthy! The Cider Festival in April is worth the trip, pick up the map and visit the various cider houses for flights or pints. In the summer, visiting the lavender farms is a must! Rows and rows, acres and acres, of purple waves making for a wonderful backdrop. Blueberries, Marionberries, strawberries and cherries can be picked at many farms. Late summer, the sunflower farms are just stunning. Fall brings the Harvest festival with barrels of every varietal of apples and pears imaginable, and all things made from them! Of course there are pumpkins, gourds and corn as well. Most vineyards and stands have picnic tables outside so you can purchase and enjoy a meal and drinks right in the gardens and vineyards, perfect right now during Covid-19 times. Allows you to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature, safely. As you leave downtown Hood River you will see a sign for Panoramic Point. Turn and make this your first stop. The gates are currently closed so you can't drive your car up the hill, but it's worth parking and walking up the hill for the aptly named panoramic vista you will encounter. Next, visit the Gorge Whitehouse, my favorite and a must stop. The big White House with black shutters is located on a magnificent piece of property. The hills in muted shades of green and gold with fields of flowers and apple & pear orchards in the foreground is so stunning it almost looks like a painting. Get a pint of their pear-lemon cider and some snacks from the food truck and sit at a picnic table and just relax, enjoy, take it all in. Make sure to buy fresh picked cherries to take home! And a growler of the cider because you can only buy it there. You will thank me. A little further down the road is a Packer Orchards for fresh berry pies, cookies, jams, syrups and ice cream. Stop at Draper Girls Cider for delicious small batch ciders. In Parkdale, Solera Brewery has one of the best views of Mt. Hood from the picnic tables out back. Get an adult beverage and enjoy their pulled pork bowl, which is basically pulled pork nachos, and enough for two. There is always something spectacular to do and see along the Hood River Fruit Loop. It's a place I visit several times a year and never tire of it. Each season brings new vistas and bounty. The drive out there is just as gorgeous making it a pleasurable day trip or weekend. Go. Eat. Drink. Photograph. Enjoy.

Evidently this building used to house a bank and the huge safe is still there against the back right wall. The day I was there, they had several pieces of wood furniture with a live edge, which I love. There was the most amazing high top table - if only I had that kind of money! Also some console tables and a coffee table. All spectacular. Bright glassware, dishes, vases and sculptures also caught my eye as did the pretty pieces of pottery, all displayed in lucite cases and in tables allowing it to be seen. Lots of paintings on the wall and on the partitions. And some enlarged photographs, too, by Brian Chambers. His pictures of the wildflowers with the Gorge in the background are breathtaking! And very affordable for the artistry. Definitely fun to browse and see if something catches your eye that you just have to have! The gentleman working that day was friendly, helpful and in no way pressuring. He let me browse at my leisure and provided answers to my questions. I will check back from time to time as I am seeking a piece of art and have something in mind. I'll know it when I see it!

This rail bike trip was so much fun! We were part of the largest tours yet with 18 rail bikes! I…read morewas shocked because I thought when booking it would be a group of ten or less rail bikes. I think a large group made this even more fun because you're spaced out enough to feel like it's a semi-private adventure but then you can laugh and have fun with other riders too! What a great group of employees! There was "The Muscle", a small group of guys with a truck. They always had a smile despite having to run large sections of rail on foot and make a bunch of bikes that weigh well over 300lbs each move around like butter in a hot skillet! And Michaela, our fun, friendly tour guide who was awesome. The switchbacks, stops, and small delays to fix a few rail bikes went smooth and did not detract from the enjoyment of riding at all. Amazingly beautiful this time of year. The sounds, smells, and the feeling of wind as you speed over the tracks is unbeatable. If you love Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad this should make you happy! I would love to do this again! I think the price is good for two people considering the length of the journey, the e-bike factor which makes riding a breeze, and the fact that it's a pretty unique experience in nature that both indoorsy and outdoorsy folks can enjoy!

They even provide blankets and umbrellas to borrow for those wishing to sit in the fields for a picnic. Don't worry, the bees won't bother you. They are busy doing their bee thing; pollinating is way more important than you! Lots of white Adirondack chairs amongst the lavender for those photo ops! The Columbia Gorge Crepes food truck is there serving delicious and hearty sweet and savory crepes. There are plenty of picnic tables in the shade to enjoy the crepes or a picnic you brought from home. Visit before the word gets out about this hidden gem! I believe they are only open on weekends while lavender is in bloom (July), so do check their website for dates and times.

The woodworking and metal were my favorites, but I also loved the photography, ceramics, watercolors, jewelry, and fiber art. I didn't know you could "paint" with fiber. The artist I met was super-helpful, and the prices were surprisingly low. After shopping, I went down the street for some coffee and a treat. I'm going to bring some friends next time.

Plus ceramics, pottery, framed pictures, handmade soaps and notecards. Great if you are looking for gifts or something special for yourself. Today I fell in love with ceramic coffee mugs shaped like sunflowers. They were exquisite! But I have so many mugs and use the same one everyday so I did a catch and release. I may have to go back for them!
