As I walked inside, I was taken at how small and quaint this place was. The hostess said, "You must be Cosmo." I laughed and said yes- I must've been the only one to make a reservation that night! There was a small bar as I walked in, and I was guided to the dining room, where there were a few other diners sitting, about half full. I was shown to my table and given a menu. She handed me a menu, and asked if I wanted water, to which I said yes, tap was fine. She left me as I perused the menu, and she quickly returned with water and pointed out the board behind me, which had all the fresh fish and specials of the day. I wanted Lobster, and happily, I saw it on the board. I asked which of the prawn starters was better, and she offered a taste of both! I then ordered a lobster. I ordered green beans on the side. I also ordered a cold beer, which she brought immediately. I was brought a plate of 2 prawns which were both divine, and then another plate with another 2 prawns, and they were divine as well. I am glad I was given the option. And then my main course came, beautifully prepared, large chunks of lobster in the shell. The Green Beans were beautiful, and I must say, some of the best I have ever had! Cooked perfectly, and the almonds were delicious. The lobster was to die for- tender and flavorful, cooked perfectly. I savored each bite. I ordered a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc with my lobster, and then had a cheese plate to finish. I sat there finishing my wine and enjoying the cheese. What a great dinner! I paid my bill, and all the staff thanked me, and I left, yearning to come back one day. For now, it will be a wonderful memory...

The friendly staff have impressive skills with carrying the dishes. We ordered quite a lot of food and they did not disappoint! Marion is a great little bar to visit during the day that you can nibble through as you enjoy your wine sipping session. Their wine collection is absolutely CRAZY - come visit and find out yourself!

Serving up an ever changing menu of seasonal tasty plates and a wine list that makes me excited to be alive, Marion is the kind of place I wish was my local. Fitzroy is fast becoming THE wine bar suburb of Melbourne with Bar Clarine, Bar Liberty, Hell of the North and the ever lovable and reliable Enoteca all serving up terrific wine by the glass and bottle along with solid food offerings. If you wanted to you could jump around multiple venues in a night having a glass and a bite at each, a kind of progressive dinner. But back to Marion... it's lovely. The food and wine is top notch but what I really want to tell you about is the service. It's friendly, knowledgable and efficient. Each guest is made to feel special but not fawned over and the pace of the experience is perfectly suited to what you're in the mood for. Up for some wine nerd chat? You've got it! Want to be left alone so you can stare in to your eyes of your beloved? No worries! Want to be told what to order and drink so you can be delighted and surprised? Easy. Waiters who can read what you need, and give it to you, are as rare as hens teeth, but A-Mac attracts some of the best staff in this city and it's always a pleasure to dine in any of his establishments because of this. 5 stars.

Robert Burns had been recommended to me by someone who said it had the best paella. Having tried…read morethe seafood paella by simply Spanish, I couldn't think it could get any better. I jumped onto the website and was enthralled by the variety of paella on the menu. Rabbit, squid ink, seafood. ... Plus happy hour from 5-7pm I was sold. I quickly made a booking for a Friday evening for two. I arrived there around 6.30 and was offered seating straightaway by the host. There is outdoor seating as well and with it being a beautiful warm day in march, we decided to sit outside. We were told to wait five minutes at the bar while we waited for tables to be cleared. We ordered pisco sours for 10 bucks each and were quickly then ushered to our seats. The outdoor tables are slightly bigger than the indoor ones and there is a slight canopy like covering. It's quite beautiful. Our pisco sours were delicious. We ordered the seafood paella which is 25 per person and two people must get it. Which I think is very pricey. But oh well. We also got the tuna salad. The tuna salad was just some canned tuna with spinach leaves. One quartered tomato, one egg and some cucumber. Nothing special. The seafood paella arrived in a large paella pan with four prawns, some calamari, two mussels, two clams and that was it. Quite disappointing in terms of amount of seafood. The rice was quite chewy, stuck to the base of the pan and tasted quite burnt and dry. Very disappointing. Very overpriced for what we got. Service is great. Venue is great. Drinks are great. Perhaps better for drinks and small bites I think.

However venture inside and you'll find a chilled out front bar, and a bistro out back which is where I dined last week with a few family members. It feels a little incongruous sitting in what looks and feels like a pub bistro with tartan floor coverings while demolishing bottles of easy-to-drink Spanish wines and plates of sweet jamon, cod croquettes, house made morcilla and slices of excellent quality bread drowning in olive oil. I soon forgot how odd it felt and instead focussed on the quality food and the great conversation that was being had around our table. The service was a little sketchy - a little more assuredness and attention from the floor staff would have been nice - but fortunately the food was so bloody good that I didn't mind (much) that I had to top up our wine glasses or flag them down for bread to dip in the juices left in the pan of our garlic prawns. Those garlic prawns... amazing! The best thing we ate was the Paella. We ordered enough for two as we had wanted to try a number of other dishes, but the four of us easily could have eaten more. Not because it wasn't generous (it really was enough considering the food we had prior) but we're all greedy and we wanted more of that rice interspersed with juicy rabbit and chicken . Next time I'll be ordering the squid ink paella with seafood... and the jamon... and the prawns... oh and probably the morcilla. Damnit, I think I'm destined to always overeat in this faux dirty old man pub!
