Just go. Seriously. And while you're there, Keweenaw Boat Tours is an excellent way to spend a couple hours. The scenery along the Shipping Channel is really interesting, and the captain (Jason) is very engaging and fascinating. He told us a lot of lore of the area as well as bits of his (very fascinating) personal history. The only caveat is: dress warmly. As you approach Lake Superior, wind off the lake can get downright cold. We were warned to dress warmly, which I *really* appreciated. And I also had the presence of mind to bring along a blanket, which really helped.

It was gorgeous on Lake Lac La Belle and Lake Fanny Hoe. Captain Jim definitely has a passion for fishing. He was also fun to hang out with. And Heuver is adorable. Captain Jim was particularly good with Ryan. Ryan loved the fact that he let him drive the speedboat. It was also nice that Captain Jim cleaned the fish for us, as we have no idea how to do that. When we come back to Copper Harbor next July we will definitely be hiring him again!

We stumbled upon Big Bay Outfitters and decided to go in because of its charming look and…read moreinteresting signage. It was definitely worth the visit. All of the fishing supplies you could need, boat rentals, and gear - though we really didn't need anything, we just wanted to hang around and explore. Bill was very helpful when we asked about waterfalls in the vicinity - it just so happens that he created a map of waterfalls! He also does tours, and although I'm not big on organized tours, he is just the kind of person that I would like as a guide - maybe next trip.

We rented a fishing boat and Bill promptly delivered it to the dock at the arranged time and had it picked up expediently .
