The views of downtown and all the bridges is something else. You can feel like you're all alone out there, but so close to the action too. As a woman, we always have to be viligant about our surroundings, and I would not come here at night. I've been early in the mornings, when it's still a little dark out, so I usually walk up on the levees. You can see people coming from far away. I ran into an after-hours party one early Saturday, but since a flock camera was installed, I have not seen the kids out there - just people getting their fitness on, or the occasional hobo. I believe the entire trail goes about 4+ miles. When the weather cools off a little, I'll tackle the entire thing. Right now, I am enjoying the solitude and pumping up my music and dancing a little down the trail. If you hear cats screaming - it's just me singing along to Chappel Roan, so don't fear.

This is a Dallas Park and Recreation Nature Trail, located within the Great Trinity Forest in…read moresoutheast Dallas. It's listed as 1.6-miles long, but it's unclear which parts of the trail equal that distance. The trail-head is located at the southern end of Bexar Street. Plan to go when you can also visit Bonton Farms, located where you'll park. Bonton Farms is open Mon-Fri 9:30-3:30 and Sat 9-noon. If you remember bug spray, the Texas Buckeye Trail provides an enjoyable walk through some dense growth approaching the banks of the Trinity River. There's a concrete path and a narrow, well-marked, trail that, not surprisingly, was muddy in parts. Near the river, the trail was closed (caution-taped off) because of all the recent rains, so we couldnt get to the Buckeye Grove. On the concrete path there is a barrier blocking the last part which leads to the river. (See Tim O.'s picture) When the river had one of its floods, the banks were washed away causing the sidewalk to collapse (see my photo). Potentially dangerous, yes, which is why it's blocked. Hopefully access to river views will be re-engineered and re-introduced in the near future. Parking was a little different since we parked across the street, but it was free, which was a nice surprise. The restrooms were clean, there were snacks and drinks available, and since we weren't sure what to expect, we ate beforehand. The real magic was watching all four of my kids, ages 4 to 12, find something they genuinely loved. That doesn't happen everywhere! From arts and crafts to climbing, sliding, exploring, and creating, there was something for every personality and energy level. No one was bored. Not even for a minute. As a mom, I appreciated the clean environment, family friendly atmosphere, and free Wi-Fi. As a M.O.M.=maker of memories maker, I loved seeing my kids laugh, play, and discover new things together. If you're looking for a place where kids can burn energy, spark creativity, and make memories, Spark is absolutely worth the visit. We'll definitely be back!

We went during the evening, and there were lots of people out enjoying the trail. Most people were friendly, although there were a few sketchy characters and a couple of less-than-friendly encounters. Nothing major, though, and it didn't take away from the experience. Next time, I'd like to try going in the morning to see how it compares. One thing I did notice was that some people on motorized bikes and hoverboards would come up pretty quickly from behind. It would be nice if more riders used their bells or gave a heads-up when passing so walkers and dogs have time to move over safely. One unexpected highlight was seeing several parrots along the trail, which was really fun. Between the nice trail, the dogs having a great time, and the overall atmosphere, it was definitely worth the visit, and I'll be back.
