I took my son there for flu testing. The office is very clean. You do have to call ahead and book an appointment.

I had to take this down a star since they now require appointments. I guess that's nice if you can wait but if I get in the car and go, I don't want to hear they can't see me without an appointment. Choose carefully and if you have a choice go somewhere else! They didn't even draw blood to check my white count and there were several items they were either out of or only had one of so it seems like they're low on supplies. In addition, Be cautious of this clinic's business practices. I discovered today ( over a week after my initial visit ) that They require upfront payment for visits, regardless of insurance coverage. I paid $150 plus a non-refundable $5.99 processing fee. I was assured that with a referral, I'd get a refund, minus the processing fee. I was told that day if I could get an approval from my doctor that I did not have to pay the $150 but since it was a Sunday and he was not the one that was on call, I had to wait until the following day to get the approval Sent through properly. So I'm not sure how we went from. "We only need a referral to avoid the $150 fee and the 5.99 processing charge" to now we need to be paid by the insurance company before we can refund you. That is two totally different scenarios. I also have never had to pay a processing charge at a doctor's office ever before. I confirmed with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) that my referral was approved for emergency visits for one year, and the visit was indeed covered. Despite having full coverage through BCBS and a referral from my primary care doctor for an emergency visit during a recent snowstorm, the clinic's refund process was inconsistent. Initially, I was told I'd receive a refund check the next day, but when I followed up, they claimed it would take at least two weeks because they needed to await the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from BCBS. BCBS confirmed that the clinic should have access to real-time data showing my coverage and the referral, debunking the clinic's claim. The clinic's information and requirements changed each time I called, suggesting a possible scheme to retain both insurance and patient payments. I wouldn't have left a negative review if the information hadn't been so misleading and inconsistent. This experience makes me long for a time when patient care came first, especially for those with comprehensive insurance. If there were any doubts about insurance coverage, they should have been upfront about it, rather than changing their story after collecting the payment. read more

While during the flu season, instead of making patients waiting over 2.5 hours in waiting room, then another hour in room, collect specimens during wait. You'll see more clients this way. AND do not collect co pay during that waiting room wait, collect in patient room. Again, efficient. AND I know it's a new system, but you don't need my DL, insurance card and payment every visit. It should carry over. read more

I want to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Hoover Urgent Care for my treatment recently. I called to make an appointment and was able to be seen in about 1 hour. The staff at the front desk was very friendly during my check in process. In about 10 minutes the nurse took me to the examine room, took my vitals, and asked me a few questions about what was going on. Dr. Parish came in just a very few minutes later and was very cordial in his examination and subsequent diagnosis. I was in and out in less than a hour. These people are wonderful and I would not hesitate to go back to them in the future. read more

I went there today because Hoover Urgent Care was recommended by a friend. I am very happy with the level of care I received. Dr. Parish is a wonderfully kind and communicative doctor. I have used Hoover urgent care for Around five years when I need a quick doctors visit for a sprained ankle, treatment for cold or flu and I can't get in to see my regular physician. I have always been impressed by the quality of care I received there and the wait time had been minimal. I haven't had the occasion to visit this office since the onset of the pandemic, so I was shocked when I arrived at Hoover urgent care 45 minutes before closing time and was told they were full and would not see me. That had never happened to me before. The receptionist told me that I just got there "too late." She suggested I come back when they open first thing the next morning. I drove back to Hoover urgent care and was there within 15 minutes of their opening. When I walked in and requested to sign in, they told me that there was no use in me signing in because they wouldn't see me for a minimum of 6 1/2 hours and that I should come back in the afternoon and they would give me an appointment time and try to fit me in. Again, I was shocked. I told them that I had to return to work and that I couldn't wait for 6 1/2 hours or risk driving back during work hours and not getting seen again. I left and when I arrived home I decided perhaps I should call them and just ask if they would make an appointment for me so I could come to the urgent care clinic at a time where I could actually have a doctors visit. They told me that they were full up for today. I told him that was fine, and could they please just give me an appointment time for tomorrow. They told me they don't do that. You have to show up or call them when they open and basically fight for an appointment time. They will not schedule you a day in advance. So after two trips, I still couldn't see a physician. I will say that I never received bad care from the doctors there, but I have also never had to wait for any real length of time before. I am placing this in the reviews so if you are like me and you assume "urgent care" means an average wait time and that you will actually be seen on the day you go in for care, you won't make the mistake of going to Hoover urgent care. I ended up trying Medcenter Hoover for the first time. I heartily recommend them if you want to see a doctor in a timely fashion. I was able to check in online, See how many people were ahead of me and then arrive at the office prior to my turn. I waited in the parking lot and they called me when it was my time to go in. The doctor was attentive and the staff was incredibly friendly. My total wait time from online check in until I was seeing the doctor was about an hour and a half. read more

Dr. Todd and the entire staff deserve 5+ ratings. I am in the medical profession and I can only pray that patients in my hospital receive the same level of care. Dr. Todd was patient, genuinely compassionate, and made me feel like his only patient. When I called back days later the staff was equally as kind and compassionate in answering my questions. I give this place five stars for several reasons: they are fast and efficient, knowledgeable, and very friendly. I came on a Tuesday morning after a holiday and was seen within 10 minutes. My total visit may have been 45 minutes. The staff was friendly as soon as I walked in the door and not to mention the nurse and doctor were very caring-they LISTENED and really wanted to help instead of nickel and dime you. They were knowledgeable and explained everything to you very well including recommendations of treatment, etc. They have a very nice facility that is newer and conveniently located next to WalGreens pharmacy. I will definitely come back here as needed for urgent care issues when I don't have time to see my regular primary care physician. read more

My husband was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) when he was 63 years old 4 years ago. The Rilutek (riluzole) did very little to help him. The medical team did even less. I got an appointment on Christmas Eve and the staff was so friendly. Sharon at the front desk was helpful. My nurse was knowledgeable about medications I was currently taking. Dr. Parrish was friendly and listened to my issues. He was definitely focused on getting me pain free. Getting an appointment was a little tricky seeing it's Covid/flu season. However, Sharon told me exactly what I needed to do to give me a better chance of getting a slot...which is another great feature of HUC - you can get a time slot so you aren't stuck waiting for hours for your turn, like other urgent care facilities make you do. Overall, I was pleased with my experience and will use them for my future medical needs! read more

I had a persistent issue this past month but don't yet have a regular doctor. So, I looked up the urgent care clinics and decided on this one because of its convenience and short wait time. (Months ago, I tried a different clinic further away.) I arrived on Saturday afternoon about 2PM and filled out the expected paperwork. Within 10 minutes, a nurse was examining me. Then, they immediately did lab work and the doctor had the information in hand when he arrived. Dr. Parish was extremely professional and knowledgeable about all the myriad of potential causes for my symptoms. We talked about the causes at length and numerous different solutions. I was impressed that he and I came came to an action plan as a team, with him listening to my special circumstances and my opinions. Afterwards, I talked with a second nurse, who was helpful with some advice I asked for. So, I was very pleased. read more

My wife and I got the flu and went to an Urgent Care facility in South Carolina. Bad experience. Had to travel to B'ham to take care of personal business so went to the Hoover Urgent Care office. What a difference in help. Dr Parish, who just had knee surgery, saw us. Even with his own pain, he took his time to actually see what was wrong and got us on the road to recovery. Although there was a waiting line and he was the only Dr on call (Christmas weekend), he took his time and really helped us. I would like to thank him for his patience, kindness, and professionalism. I arrived 15 minutes before they opened at 8:00 am. They promptly opened at 8 and I was the first patient. The front desk gal was friendly and professional. I was registered quickly and seen within 10 minutes of arriving. Vitals and important medical information taken by the triage nurse was efficient and confidential. I was moved to an exam room and seen by the doctor who took her time with me, answered my questions, diagnosed me and sent me on my way with my prescriptions. This office was clean and well ran from what I could observe in the short time I was there. I highly recommend this facility and would not hesitate to use them again. Hoover Urgent Care is anything BUT "Urgent." Arrived at approximately 10:15 on Sunday morning. Went to the door where I saw the notice to call and wait in the car. I called at 10:19. I was told the wait would be approximately 2-2.5 hours, but that when the front desk "caught up" they would call me for my insurance information, etc., and could give a better estimate. I waited in the parking lot as I was under the impression my wait to figure out how long it would take to see me would be brief. At 11:21 I called to inquire about where I was on the list, as it had been over an hour. I was assured that I hadn't missed a call and they would definitely see me "by the end of the day." At that time, I decided my time and resources would be better spent elsewhere. Upon the advice of a friend, I went to American Family Care in Cahaba Village off 280. I was seen, diagnosed, and on my way in less than an hour. I did not receive a call from Hoover "Urgent" Care until I had pulled into the pharmacy to pick up my prescription. When I informed the caller that I had left, seen a doctor, was diagnosed, and was picking up medication, her response was, "that's fine." No apology. No concern. I cannot speak to the efficacy of the physicians at this clinic, as I never crossed their threshold. I will never (attempt to) go here again. ESPECIALLY if there is a pressing medical need to be addressed. read more

Went in with an extremely sore throat. Was seen by the nurse and Dr Parish. They were both very nice and professional and I was in and out in no time. I can't say enough good things about the staff at Hoover Urgent Care. They really do a wonderful job and I have always been treated very very well when I have gone there. I love the doctor I usually see here. I go on weekends or when my PCP is unavailable. I was recently seen with chest pain and the doctor sent me on to the ER. It was a false alarm, but the UC doctor called twice to reach me to be sure I was ok. read more

I went in close to closing time and everyone was still extremely courteous and polite. Dr. Gilstrap and her nurses were awesome and extremely helpful. This is the best experience I have ever had in any type of AfterHours clinic. Usually it seems like they leave you sitting there long enough to recover on your own, but Hoover Urgent Care was quick and still attentive and professional. Will be going here again! read more
