My experience at Hoovers Automotive went like this. I have a son that's a student at Texas A&M Commerce. His car stopped on him at the McDonald's ( 0.7 ) miles away from Hoovers. I called Hoovers the next morning and told them what the car was doing and asked could they service it. I spoke with a guy name Jeff. Jeff stated it would be $129 for diagnostic and tow. I paid for that over the phone. 30 mins later , Jeff called me to advise me that they had sent a worker out to McDonald's to jump start the car and did work , so I'd have to pay for a tow. Yes , that's correct after he told me it was included in the $129. I used my roadside assistance and got the car towed to Hoovers. About 3 hours later , Jeff called me and stated they figured out what the problem was and the car needed a Starter. I asked if that was it , and he stated " yes , but after we put the started on if we find anything else , I'll call and let you know ". He told me the Starter and Labor would total $645. I thought that was kind of high , but my son needed his car the semester was ending in 2 days. I paid $300 for the Starter right then. Jeff stated I could pay the remaining $345 when he calls and tells me the car is ready. He told me the Starter was in a difficult place , so that's why the labor was $345. 35 minutes later , Jeff called me and told me my son car was ready for pickup. YES , labor was $345 for 35 minutes. He also told me , nothing else seemed wrong with the car. Picked the car up , the next day my son leaves to come home and the car stopped again after driving about 12 miles down the road. I called Hoovers , they told me to have it towed back and what they did was next warranty. Mind you the car is doing the exact same thing from the first time they had. Jeff calls me a day later and tells me , the motor locked up , but they can't understand how it locked up cause it's oil in the car. Basically spent $800 for 12 miles. Jeff was rude , hind the phone up in my face and tried to say my son prob drives bad so the engine messed up. Very disrespectful! I wouldn't , take a bicycle to this shop , let alone another vehicle. Took my car in to get a coolant leak fixed and some other small things, tell me why the coolant leaks WORSE after I get it back? Extremely expensive too, took my car in another time because it was having problems starting. It was working when I first got it back but then it wasn't starting again only weeks later. 7/16/2025 I took my car for AC repair in the back 3 months ago. I have 4 kids and needed it fixed before summer hit. paid $500.. cool, whatever it takes, gotta keep the kids comfortable, bc I had a new born and this is Texas. 3 months later, I take it back bc the back isnt cooling anymore, they say yeah, its under warranty, unless we find another issue. of course they did. said it was my AC condensor, that it looked like a "rock hit it", and it would over $1,000 to fix, then they would have to again, recharge and add freon. which would have cost another i dont know how much. I ended up taking it to another mechanic, further away, and they said there was NOTHING wrong with my AC condensor. that they ran a leak test, no leak, and likely when I took it to Hoovers 3 months ago they didn't even top off my system like they said they did. I am most upset, because of the lying. I have 4 kids, and our money should be spent on them, not on deceitful mechanic tricks. They should be honestly ashamed of themselves. But they will keep doing this to people, but hopefully my review will save some one else saddness and loss of their hard earned money! read more

Great front desk service, honest, and very reasonable repair expenses.

Good ol' James Hoover's name is tarnished with this new ownership. So much possibility with this place, but it's run into the ground. They'll be closed before too long. I've seen customers cheated out of refunds due them, I've seen creditors have to sue for their money and dozens of former employees still owed money. I wish I could give a negative rating! not the place it use to be. I will never do business there again. Says they open at 7:30 a.m. so I get there to drop the car off before work for an oil change and they finally showed up at 7:50 while workers even stood outside waiting. Brought may own oil and filter and asked to have the tires rotated While they were changing the oil. Get there to pick the car up and they didn't rotate the tires and I feel like overcharged for me suppling the materials. When asked about the tires he said well I guess it didn't get written down. Only problem is I watched him write it all down and it was in the paper right in front of him. I urge you to please find a better place to do business. I had to start my morning off hearing foul language about the cell service in the busied of from the unprofessional staff and was late getting back to work since they weren't on time. read more
