Potato salad was very good. Coleslaw was typical. Cornbread was not too dry, and the right amount...don't want fill up on that! Brisket itself, was okay. I actually only had about a quarter of it because I was already full - thought I'd give it another chance tomorrow at home. Leftover brisket is sometimes better (inexplicably!) Two reasons for my rating: 1. This was the only eatery open on a Sunday night that would accept a to-go order after I returned from a 5-day hike. I ordered a Caesar salad. I have celiac disease so can't eat anything wheat-based. I specifically requested no croutons, several times, and was assured there would be no croutons and they would be careful. But, after I had eaten a few bites, there were croutons, buried in the salad. 2. The salad was otherwise awful! It was slathered in a slime-y dressing and it was not crisp and cold like a Caesar salad should be. Generally I will let these kinds of things pass by (except if I had been eating in I would have sent the contaminated salad back immediately) but I wanted my money back. I went by the restaurant a couple of times over the next few days but it was always jammed so I gave up while I was in town. I then requested a refund through their "contact me" page but of course haven't heard back from them that way either. read more

Dined June 25 for dinner. They're open for dine-in and have both indoor and outdoor seating. When we went, it was good weather outside and no one was sitting inside. My friend and I were starving after exploring the nearby Wells Gray Provincial Park, so we were ready to chow when we got to the restaurant at 5. We were seated promptly and started with drinks. We each got one of the beers on tap ($7 per glass) based on our server's recommendation. For food, we started with the smoked chicken wings ($10). My friend doesn't eat much meat so he went with their vegetarian platter ($25), which they had just introduced back to the menu the same day we dined there. I couldn't decide between the brisket and the ribs, so I got both via the smoked meat combo plate ($32). The wings were good but was a bit on the bland side. There was a bbq dipping sauce on the side, but I didn't use it since I'm not a big fan of bbq sauce. I think because of that the wings lacked flavor. It's been a while since I had some good barbecue, so I was really excited for my brisket and ribs. Between the two, I definitely liked the brisket more. Most of the pieces I got were quite moist and fatty, just the way I like my brisket! However, it was again on the bland side. It comes with a sauce of your choice (I went with chimichurri) on the side which helped add some flavor, but I wish it had a bit more salt and pepper. Ribs were decent, but they do use some barbecue sauce in the flavoring so I thought it was just okay flavor-wise. My favorite part of the meal were my brisket and the cornbread. My friend enjoyed his vegetarian platter. It's a mixture of a cheese and crackers, salad, and grilled vegetables, and had quite the presentation. I was impressed! read more

It's a beautiful town with many picturesque waterfalls and hikes of all difficulty levels around the wells gray provincial park. If you are in Clearwater, you've to dine at this place. It's one of the rarest smokehouses which serves food for both meat and vegetable lovers. We had a herbivore platter, a big Eddie burger, and a side of ribs. Everything was just out of the world. The meat was juicy, tender, flavorful, and plentiful. The veggie platter had a lot of veggies, delectable cheeses, savory cornbread, and a lot of other things that made it worth the money. Stopped by en route to Washington from Alberta. I wish we had been a little later for 4pm when the restaurant opens but man, their little food truck out front - The Piglet pressed me a delicious sourdough and pulled pork and Mac n cheese panini! Comes with 1 side for $14. It'd be nice if a can of pop or 25 cent bottle of water was thrown in. They let us inside to use the restaurant washroom and my daughter said the bathroom was gorgeous! Came here for dinner with my family after visiting the waterfalls in Walls Gray Provincial Park. We weren't super hungry so between the five of us, we shared the smoked salmon trio ($18), vegetarian platter ($25) and meat platter for two ($60). While everything was tasty, I enjoyed the brisket the most! Also loved the cornbread, and the BBQ sauces, chimichurri and pickled onions that accompanied were amazing. Surprisingly liked the baked garlic feta as well (I don't usually like feta). The chicken was slightly dry and I thought the veggie platter was a bit overpriced. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal here. In 2016 we were camped in Wells Grey Provincial Park. After a day of unbelievable sight seeing and spectacular waterfalls we ended up in Clearwater B.C . We started looking for a place to eat and came upon the Hop and Hog and decided to give it a shot and were not disappointed. I had the pulled pork and it was fantastic. This year we were in Vancouver and planned on using the Yellowhead back to Edmonton just for the purpose of stopping at the Hop and Hog. It was just as i remember. I had the Hop and Hog Bruschetta then followed up with Dry Rubbed Slow Smoked St. Louis Pork Ribs. Both were fantastic .If using the Yellowhead make sure to stop in Clearwater. You will not be disappointed. i will not wait 7 years to go back there next time. Staff are very friendly and food was great. Beer is local and refreshing. read more

It's rare that I go to a restaurant, and the first thing I do after putting down my fork is to pick up my phone to write a Yelp review. Hop 'n' Hog is such a place that warrants it. I must confess, I came in with pretty low expectations. The only reason that I stopped in Clearwater was that it was halfway between Jasper and Vancouver -- a convenient pit stop on a road trip in the rockies. So I was not expecting a world class BBQ restaurant. And yet that is what is here. You can tell just tell this place is going to be special when you drive up. Not only does it look authentic, it's packed full of people all sitting outside on a Wednesday night. Walk inside and you're greeted by super friendly staff who are -- *gasp* -- actually happy to be there! I started speaking to a gentleman by the name of Will, who happened to be the owner. He saw my indecisiveness about pulled pork or ribs, so threw in an extra few ribs so I didn't have to decide. And after I ordered, he took the time to sit down and chat -- telling the story of how he came to own this fine establishment (ask him about it, including Zambia!). And then the food. I got takeout, so if you eat there you won't get the lake view. What you will get is a mountain of delicious, world-class BBQ. We arrived at 5:00 pm and glad we did! The place filled up quickly! We started with the salmon appetizer and it was so delicious. My husband had the ribs and sausage and I had the smoked brisket. The meats were very tender and the smoke flavor was delicious. The apple slaw needed a bit more vinegar flavor to help make it pop but was still good. I'm really a wine person but I tried their craft beers flight which we're pretty good. Overall, food is well done and served quickly. Of all the places in town, this was our favourite. The log cabin interior is rustic but warm and the outside deck is complete with heaters and string lights to make it a pleasant experience in many seasons and late into the night. It does get busy during the summer season and I'd recommend making a reservation to avoid a wait. The bartender let us sample their brews while we waited. She even gave our toddler a sample of lemonade so she'd feel included. The service was really friendly and prompt despite having a full house. The nachos were fully loaded and an amazing deal for the pound of pulled pork on top. The ribs were decent, with a good smokey flavour. I've never been to a smokehouse before, but this is exactly what I envisioned one would be. The food was fantastic. We ordered pulled pork tacos for the kids and we shared the meat platter. So good! We have some really picky eaters and they were more than happy to accommodate our strange request (Mac n cheese, extra corn bread, extra sausages). The staff was always around when we needed them and anticipated every need we have. Thanks to our server Callie for putting up with all of the kids! Also, the building is obviously newer and in great shape. But more importantly, the bathrooms are super clean! Friendly place with harty British welcome. Bit hilbilly but that's very much Clearwater. We had the Brisket and the pulled pork, both very smoked but tasty. Extremely fast service which means they have it all ready at hand in the kitchen. Good thing when you're hungry or in a hurry. Beers on the menu are not all available so ask first to prevent disappointment. No lagers today for instance, only stouts and ales. Not my favourites. I ordered a Belgian Blond: in Belgium that means lager/pilsner. Not here though. For dessert we had the mango cheesecake which proved to be a good choice. Be ware: they have live music sometimes.
