This church is open to all which is a great approach for someone looking for diversity and acceptance. I've been to a few services and enjoy that the pastor has a laid back approach while still delivering a good message. I've attended Baptist churches typically so there's an adjustment, but you make of it what you take from it. We found HC in 2019 when the West Houston location opened up at Houston Christian back then. Now the permanent building is open right up the street from the old location. So glad we found Hope City which is our home church and where we found our community. So many events and gatherings to get connected, plug in, and be a part of something greater while building and enjoying community and worship every week. read more

This was our first time visiting Hope City Church, and overall the atmosphere was welcoming. However, we did have an experience that I think could be improved, especially for families with young children. Our service was at 11:00 AM. We arrived a little late, around 11:35-11:40 AM, as first-time visitors. When we went to check our child into the kids' area, we were told that children cannot be signed in 30 minutes after the service begins. Because of this, our only option was to sit in a family room with other families and children. I understand the need for structure and safety, and this isn't meant to bash the church at all. However, this policy felt a bit inconsiderate for families who may be coming from far away, dealing with traffic, or navigating the realities of getting toddlers ready and out the door. Being first-time guests, we weren't aware of this cutoff, and it made it difficult for us to sit down and fully experience the service together as a family. The family room option wasn't sufficient for what we were hoping for, which was to sit in the main sanctuary and fully engage in worship and the message without distraction. Hope City seems like a loving church with good intentions, and I believe this is an area where a little flexibility or clearer communication could go a long way in making first-time families feel more accommodated and welcomed. read more

Praise God! I know the church is not about people--it's about Christ! Why do I say this? Today, I attended Hope City and had an amazing service. Went to the prayer line and waited behind one person. She received prayer, and when finished, the prayer partner began having a conversation with her. There I sat, waiting. They both saw me, yet no acknowledgment came. The prayer partner never once said, "I'll be with you shortly" or gave any indication that I hadn't been forgotten. Instead, they continued laughing and talking. After waiting and feeling invisible, I decided to leave. Later, I wished I had stayed--not for myself, but so I could tell her I'd be praying for her. Because if someone on the prayer team shows bias in who they pray for--or places conversation above ministering to someone who may have a deep, urgent need--then she herself is in need of prayer. People come to church seeking a place to worship and to grow in God among like-minded believers. Sadly, people also leave churches when they feel unwelcome. I pray this young woman's heart is convicted, that she grows in Christ, and that others on the prayer team recognize the seriousness of this calling. Praying for others requires a Christ-like heart posture: one of humility, compassion, and impartial love. Perhaps the prayer team could even benefit from cultural competence training to help ensure no one feels overlooked. I thank God that I know Him, and I will not hold this experience against the church. Instead, I will pray for her--that her heart lines up with the Word of God. May God bless her richly. read more

I've attended twice, but overall I feel like this church shows some promise however I'm not 100% committed that this is exactly my church home as of yet. Like one of the more recent comments suggested I do feel like there needs to be more tie ins to biblical references as opposed to jokes/jest to connect and keep up with today's society. I have also noticed that a good amount of people show up in sports attire with hats and jerseys (as if they are intending to head to a sports bar right afterwards) and it all just adds to the feeling of whether this truly feels like a place of serious worship. I'd like a place that feels more grounded and not so much simply like I'm coming to a concert with a few biblical references here and there. I do appreciate some of the guest appearances but I feel as if I'm left wanting more from a home church. read more

I have only been coming to this church for a couple of months but as someone who left the religion all together and this was the first church I attended since college, it has been very inspiring. This is the first time I have been consistent in church and I thank that to the pastors humor, the friendliness of the volunteers and how relatable the messages are to ME. Now I am in my 20s and these messages are relating to me. They might seem unfit or "lacking substance" to a seasoned church goer or someone that has lived a long life. But I feel comfortable and welcomed here, which can be challenging to find as a lesbian woman of color. It's safe to say both my partner and I are comfortable here. I believe the biggest thing that got me to stay was the idea that this church isn't about religion, it's about a relationship with God. And if you're someone that has been out of the church for a while, that is relieving to hear. So again, it's a church. It's not going to fit everyone's interest so be wary of the negative reviews. read more

They are leading the church with faith, love, while giving HopeCity a new perspective we're a loving community. My family and I have been attending HC since 2015 off and on... The distance has always been my issue (that's it)... 2019, we have made the decision to really dig deep and get with a church that is diverse, kid friendly , compassionate, community oriented and where the word is always something to talk about after service, a place we could feel comfortable to serve also! Here we are and I can honestly say this place is the same then and now in a good way. Of course it's evolved over the years, in a magnificent way. I am very proud of how far the church has come. From the gate to your seat you are greeted with genuine smiles l and hello or welcome... I feel at home when I'm here and so does my family which makes me feel ever over the top good good! It's so unfortunate how repetitive this church is. Ive attended and left and even tried to come back and I hear the SAME things. It's not Christ talking through the pastor to his church, it's the pastors heart and ego talking. It's unfortunate how this lead pastor "preaches" at this church (west campus location) when there's such a high attendance, these people are not being fed to become disciples. Respectfully, I don't want to hear more about your family stories than the WORD OF GOD and the Bible. This pastor is so distracted throughout his sermons, there's no need for you to say "story time" several times throughout your time on stage. You don't just pick and choose verses in the Bible to "support" whatever you want to put out there. This pastor supports worldly habits instead of correcting and teaching people the word and how to live as Christ has commanded us and demonstrated! You won't get fed spiritually, your ego will be stroked. The weekly serve team is so rude when it comes to telling you where to sit. When the main room becomes full and you have to go to additional seating, there's no greeting, it's immediately "ITS FULL. ADDITIONAL SEATING". I originally came to Hope City because pastor Michael Todd was in town preaching and I was NOT going to miss that, since God has been using pastor Mike for years to speak into my life! Anywho, after that sunday I wanted to see what the actual pastors of the church were like, so I came back the next week. It's been months and I now call this church my home! Pastors Daniel and Jackie are amazing and speak straight from the bible, they even add humor which I really love and appreciate! Not only that, but you really feel God's presence in this church. Great for those who are curious about God and need connection but struggle with the usual church relevance and feeling uncomfortable in religious places. This place brings the modern world to see truth and find peace and joy in a place that is much easier to understand. As someone whose initial introduction to organised religion was traumatic to say the least (think "fire and brimstone southern baptist preacher screaming at K - 5th graders") I steered well clear of anything even remotely approaching faith and church for much of my life. I did not experience the overwhelming and undeniable love of God and Jesus' forgiveness and mercy until I was in my early 20s. I soon found a local church through a friend, attended for a while, and truly enjoyed it... until they started preaching politics from the pulpit. Exit stage left. Fast forward well over a decade and while my faith never faltered, I still found myself missing the fellowship and worship service I'd enjoyed while being a member of a church. Enter a co-worker who mentioned Hope City in casual conversation. I checked out a few of Pastor Jeremy's sermons online and was blown away. I figured anyone who can make me laugh, think, weep with joy, and feel truly connected with God again and again was worth checking out in person. Enter Easter Service at the Berry Center. That was all it took and I've been attending Hope City's Memorial campus ever since. The people are wonderful, genuine, and make you truly feel welcomed. The worship team is phenomenal, especially Richie! It's a wonderful combination of contemporary praise and worship and some old school hymns. The message is always relatable, sprinkled throughout with real world anecdotes, humour, and of course liberal mentions of food! The focus is always on the love of Jesus and the Word of God. I am a former HC Kids Katy employee and I would not leave my worst enemies kids in a service at that location. It is ran by people who truly have no idea how to manage and effectively structure an environment for children to be productive and feel the spirit of Christ. Instead children are listening to videos and often hit, scratched and not being picked for activities during worship because only HC Katy kids whose parents volunteer actually get picked for anything. Fights and verbal abuse are typical each Sunday between the children. HC Kids Katy does not have a clear system set up to run the elementary service, which is why there are so many issues. Employees are expected to run a service with little to no direction from management and it is expected to run smoothly. There is clear favoritism among employees and if you mention or say anything, your simply not a good fit anymore. There is a reason why turnover at this specific location area is extremely high and that is because leadership has no idea what they are doing. New employees often start but do not stick around. Its because of the way they are treated. I experienced pay issues OFTEN during my time with Hope City. I would NEVER step foot back in a Hope City location due to all the issues and the way I was treated throughout my experience at the location. read more

Well, it looks like my review aged well. The pastor did indeed have a "fall from grace." I saw this coming a mile away, when I saw an entire church built around a cult of personality. I ended up finding a church with a normal pastor and Board of Elders...no one famous, wealthy, or flashy, just regular people spreading the Word of God. read more

Hope City has absolutely changed my life. I grew up going to Catholic church, but honestly, I've never truly felt connected to my faith. Even sadder than that, like many millennials in my generation, I found myself disillusioned with traditional Catholic church and I was fine with letting it stay that way. ...Enter Hope City. Hubby & wife superduo and pastors Jeremy & Jennifer Foster established this Christian church only last year in January 2015, and it is making. some. NOISE! Think Lakewood's younger, smaller, more energetic baby sister. Hope City's mission is simple: "Love God. Love people. Change the world;" that said, the magic of this church comes from one word: INVOLVEMENT. Hope City makes it known that they want to be involved in their patrons' lives, in the community, and even what's going on in the world. They operate by holding different "series" every few weeks that discuss prevalent topics related to our daily lives: "Embracing the Impossible," "Detox," "How To Handle Your Haters," "#Goals," and their most popular series yet "Uncomplicated Love, Sex, & Marriage," amongst many others. I know some of these topics may seem pretty unorthodox and off-putting to traditional church-goers, but the pastors do an amazing job at backing things up with scripture and keeping the focus on Christianity. On a related note, while Hope City attracts a lot of young adults and families, there are plenty of older adults and couples that call this church home, too. When it comes to the community, Hope City provides tons of volunteer and internship opportunities within the church, outreach missions within our city, they support the growth of new churches in nearby cities, and they even form Connect Groups where similar patrons can get together during the week. Finally, as young as this church is, it's already doing its part to change the world by providing opportunities for patrons to go on international mission trips and partner up with other Christian organizations, such as building schools for orphans in Haiti with Coreluv or cultivating sustainable water systems with Living Water in Nicaragua and Honduras. I love that Hope City gives you so many different opportunities to put good back out onto the world; you really feel like you're part of something that's making a difference! Whew, ok! Getting off my soapbox now... Hope City operates out of Memorial High School (and occasionally Jersey Village High School) and holds 5 services every weekend: 7pm on Saturday; 8am, 9:30am, 11:15am, & 1pm on Sunday. Services get pretty packed (especially on Saturday evening), so try to arrive early for easy parking and a good seat in the auditorium. Kids? No problem - drop them off in Hope City's safe, age-appropriate Kids Room. Late? That's cool - there's additional seating rooms if the auditorium is full. Can't make it to church? Watch the service online or even listen to the podcast during the week. Half-awake? Hellooo complimentary coffee! Also, those who grew up in the Catholic church will be comforted to know that Hope City holds baptisms and communion once a month, as well - it's a great way for Catholics like me to still feel connected to familiar traditions. Once you're settled in, be prepared for a high-energy and uplifting worship experience in a casual, relaxed setting. It can get pretty loud and emotional at times during the singing portions of the service, which can be uncomfortable to people who are not used to the "mega-church" scene. It definitely took me awhile to get used to, but I've grown to love and appreciate the energy. In the words of Pastor Jeremy, this church "touches the heavens AND shakes the Earth!" Moved here a little over a month ago from San Diego where I left behind and amazing church. (Anyone visiting SD...Grace in North Park is a must). This was my 3rd church I've visited and my first time here. I definitely enjoyed it. I loved worship but I will say it was pretty loud. Pastor was great. Funny, entertaining, serious, and relatable all in one. I will be back but it will be to the Memorial City location. This location shows the service live on screens but the pastor is actually preaching at their Memorial City location. The cameras people gave me a little motion sickness. They move the cameras too much and too fast. I was on the production team at Grace so maybe I'm just being too picky. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. They have coffee! Like I said, will be back but gave them 4 stars because of the service being on screens and not having the pastor preach in the actual location. read more

The preaching is not sound. This church is very man centered....promoting the preachers, female pastors, selling merch, it's all about fun. These are not the purposes and biblical commands for the church. The church is here to preach the gospel, a place for saints to grown in holiness. The bible speaks of humility and sobriety. I've been to this church a handful of times, and am trying to decide if I would consider it as a place call home and become a member. The message and worship is excellent, but it definitely has that "megachurch" feel, so I have to decide if that's for me. I'm knocking one star because the worship is way too loud (personal opinion). I really like hearing a congregation sing; but here it's like going to a concert at Toyota center (which says the production and talent is fantastic), and I just don't like drums, and voices competing, and not being able to find a peaceful moment in the worship. read more

This was a great church experience. More of a younger crowd with high energy...but that's what I like. I can't believe God would want a dead church experience! That's not how it was described in the book of Acts! Definitely recommend to anyone looking...for a church, for a good word...or explore their first experience with God. I've been going to Hope City church for about a year. I'm 70 years old and was raised in a strict Protestant church. I drifted away from attending any church services through the years but wanted to get back again. My son took me to this incredible church and I'm so grateful. I love all the pastors and their messages. This church truly wants to help people in need which we're all at that point now in this world. I'm so impressed with all the "groups" they have that members can join. They do not judge anyone for how you look or what you wear, etc. My son has struggled with his own demons in the past but is finding some peace and solutions here at Hope City. Can't thank Pastor Jeremy and his staff for helping me get back to God and his word. And the music is Fabulous!!!! read more
