The time and effort as well as the safety precautions that were put into making this event come to fruition were mind blowing. They had everything you could think of for your child to enjoy themselves in a safe and family friendly environment. I was greeted warmly by both the Pastor and his wife (Pastor Gary & JoAnn Porter) and immediately felt as if I was part of the Encounter Church Family. This was a great night for all involved both staff and attendees. After this event I decided to check out a live stream video ( YouTube: Encounter Church Pensacola, Fl) and immediately knew that I had found a spiritual home. Pastor Gary's message was insightful and concise and spoken tenderly with the strength and conviction of a man who truly believed in the message he was conveying. If you are searching for your spiritual home I suggest wholeheartedly that you consider Encounter Church as that home.

Yesterday we were invited to participate in a turtle release, on our section of beach, where our…read more"Share The Beach" volunteer crew does sunrise patrols from May through August. We look for turtle nests, mark and monitor then we count 55 days then return there to nest sit, awaiting the hatchlings to make sure they make it safely down the beach to their life journey. We do that until the very last turtle is welcomed to the world. But yesterday was a rare chance to participate in a rehab release. This female laggerhead turtle's ordeal began this July just down the beach at the Gulf State pier. She had swallowed a fishing hook, and since they breathe through their trachea, required medical attention. Park officers and good Samaritans worked together to her ashore and contact the appropriate folks. Apparently she has hard some tough encounters in her life, she was missing a flipper and her shell was damaged by her tail. She was quickly transported to The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, MS where she got the care she needed to bounce back from her latest trauma. They named her Sequoia, put a chip in her and tagged her so her progress and travels can be monitored. Just 32 days later she was brought back to our Gulf Shores beach so should be released and put back on her journey, and we were there!! She was transported from the main road via a golf cart and she was greeted by all of us who lined a path for her, like a runway, for her last steps on the beach before swimming away. Her crawl is slow, because of the missing front flipper, but once she gets out into the surf there was nothing slow about her :-) She sped off while to applause and well wishes and hopes that she continues to thrive wherever she goes, and maybe, just maybe, we might see her again when it's the me to lay her eggs in the future. Thank you to each and every person who contributed to saving her and making this day possible. Bottom line: Sea turtles are majestic and gentle animals whose population is finally rebounding and it was a really awesome opportunity to help Sequoia go home!! It's very beautiful, facing Pensacola bay & is surrounded by lush beautiful gardens. The little tiny house at the side was where the cooks kitchen was. So adorable. There is a informational phone/recording you can listen to, you can take a tour or explore it at your leisure. A must visit when visiting Pirate'cola. Highly recommend.

Adopted my parrot from here this month but have been volunteering for months here. Every bird has…read moretheir own personality, space and time spent with them on the daily. Reed is wonderful to be around and he has taught me so much. The adoption process was so wonderful, everything I've wanted. All my needs were met. Reed makes sure all these birds go to great homes. As for the parrots, they are provided with daily enrichment, a great diet, other birds to interact with and places to hide . Misters in the heat and heat lamps in the cold. Nothing better than Uncle Sandy's!!!!!!!!!

They give you a little cut of food of peanuts, cooked pasta and bread to feed the birds. You're given a very brief class on how not to get bitten when feeding them. These types of birds can inflict a nasty bite. It only costs ten dollars a person to walk through and it has to be cash. I donated another twenty bucks as well. The bird enclosures are spacious and the birds appear well fed and healthy. I really enjoyed the Emus, budgies and the funny chicken. There are even peacocks running around. One let me feed it peanuts and was very friendly. This place does a great service for surrendered birds nobody wants or knows how to take care of. Visiting funds continued care for these animals and I fully support the mission. It really is a fun experience.
