Unable to get up, my husband called 911 and I was transported by ambulance to Kennestone hospital. Early the next morning, I underwent surgery to repair my hip. Pending release, I needed to select a rehabilitation facility. The hospital gave us a list of about 10 facilities in the Atlanta area, but the online reviews were largely negative. Fortunately, my family did some fast research, talked to friends about alternative facilities, and Encompass Health and Rehabilitation Hospital of Cumming was the overwhelming recommendation. After several phone calls between my family and Encompass, my surgeon gave me a referral to the Cumming GA facility. A bed opened on New Year's Eve, and I was transported there late that night. The level of care I received was exceptional, and with the treatments from their phenomenal occupational and physical therapists, I was released in 7 days. The entire staff, including medical, therapeutic, and administrative, were excellent. Now at home and with the aid of a wheeled walker plus in-home PT twice a week, I'm continuing to improve. I strongly recommend Encompass Health for anyone requiring similar services due to injury or illness. The following is just a screenshot of my experience with this facility. Firstly, this facility was highly recommended and encouraged by Northside Hospital and their doctors during my mother's unfortunate visit before her discharge. It also had good reviews on Google and other outside sources so I was excited that my mother might be going to the best place for her well-being and to get the help she needed. Upon admission to Encompass, they were taking pictures of any injuries, I assume to cover their own liabilities but also took pictures of her genitals, which is illegal I've learned. She had a bad rash from being hospitalized for 2 weeks and having bouts of diarrhea during her stay at Northside Hospital prior. My mother was at Encompass only a week and this rash on her bum, that they took pictures of, was not treated by this facility during her stay. She was only given a shower by the staff once in that week. Other showers were requested but only got towels with no assistance. The nurses had a lackadaisical and dismissive attitude about the bed & chair alarm as well, often sounding off for more than 10 minutes at a time. The nurses didn't check on her often, I was there regularly for more than 5 hours or more and they didn't even poke their head in the door during my visits. The only time they had any interaction with her was at meal times, medicine times, or when the bed alarm was activated. On another visit, her scheduled therapy was listed until 12:30 and I arrived at 12:20 - she was in her room eating lunch at that time. When asked about it, they said they finished early. If she was capable of doing all they asked, they should fill the remaining time doing supplemental exercises or just walking. Physical therapy, of which this facility prides itself on, "5 hours a day" I was told at first, has not been adequate for my mothers' needs. (The 5 hours I was promised quickly became just 1.5 to 3 hours a day after her arrival.) Also, upon taking in a new patient, the doctors just mirror all the medications and oxygen needs that the hospital had administered prior, without their own evaluation of any kind and without viewing a time-chart of when the medicine was last given. I had instructed the hospital to stop giving her certain medications based on her previous list of allergies and reactions to the meds she was given. Upon entering this rehab facility, they just started them all over again without evaluating the need for them. (The list included anti-diarrhea, one for constipation, psychiatric meds, another for sleeping, 3 different antibiotics - antibiotics given for no reason) After confronting the doctor about this, she reluctantly agreed to stop just one of the psychiatric medications they were giving her to calm her down, only based on my complaint. The oxygen was also unnecessary, (she averaged 92) but she was forced to wear it resulting in a open sore in her nostril. I was told several times that the "respiratory therapist" would need to evaluate the need for the o2 but, to my knowledge, no evaluation was done and only physical therapy monitored the o2 level. I would also expect the case worker would've been in touch with me much sooner and would not have to be tracked down after being there 3 days. I called the main line and the lady who answered was snarky and rude, snapping at me saying, "I need your mother's name, you think". The man stationed at the front desk in the evening seemed to be conducting his own side business on the phone, and this front desk job was just a nuisance to him. I requested an early discharge due to many issues with this facility. Upon confirmation of an early discharge, I was told to be there at 10am. I arrived at 9:30am and My mother was still sleeping, breakfast cold. The nurse said they were unable to wake her for PT or breakfast that morning. "What did they give her last night to put her out like that?", I asked the nurse. That was not usual for my mother to be so groggy, especially at 9:30am. Was this a personal attack for seeking an early discharge? I later saw a schedule from her last day stating that she indeed had therapy when she was not present for it. I guess they just billed it to insurance anyway. I suspect there are others that have experienced similar events and have said nothing. Maybe society has become used to being governed by many questionable practices and has become too forgiving of others instead of correcting bad behavior. Maybe they just don't know they're bad. I just wish people knew and wanted to do the right thing.

Have to give a special shoutout to Alyssa because she always shows up with the best energy and enthusiasm for the day, and is also extremely encouraging for both my child and my husband and I. I love that she takes the time out of every visit to break things down for us in simple, easy to understand terms and shows us exactly what we should be working on at home as well. Even with all of the different patients and toys (which means exposure to a lot of germs), I always feel like the space and toys are kept super clean and I love that they make time between each patient's visit to wipe down and clean all surfaces and toys that were touched. Debbie at the front desk was so sweet on the phone when getting me set up and is always so friendly whenever we need help. We were paired with Jorri and she's incredible. When I say she saved me that's an understatement. I have postpartum anxiety and my baby struggling to eat was really triggering and Jorri was SO understanding and so helpful, literally answering my texts at all hours when I needed help outside of a session. Jorri brought in their in house craniosacral therapist who helped her confirm her suspected diagnosis of a posterior tongue tie. She and Stacy worked together and gave me the tools we needed to help my sweet girl eat comfortably. Jorri has continued to support me through all her stages and when she starts struggling to drink. Due to COVID I had a strong inclination that my sone would need speech therapy at two. When my son was referred for speech therapy, Building Bridges was my instant choice. Jorri is now working weekly with my son and he has come leaps and bounds. We have been with her a few months and I get comments from strangers on how great my son speaks! I could not be more proud or more grateful. I am hoping my daughter will pick up skills from my son as she learns to speak, but if she also needs speech therapy we will be headed right back to Building Bridges. If you are referred for therapy I highly recommend Building Bridges! I see how each of their therapist greet their patients and interact in the hall and they are all so sweet with the kids, while Jorri is my favorite I would trust any one of them with my babies.

Not only is it hard to find a place to take older kids but it's hard to find a place that actually cares about your child and their families too. They have been great about working with My son and teaching us as a family how we can help him too. I love it so much that I switched his speech to Joy and my daughters OT to Joy. I have not dealt with a bad therapist there. Even the front desk ladies are amazing.

I was so upset this happened and they ou let me knoe at the end of the day. the bcba accidentally added me to an email that she asked the boss (owner wife) what she should say to me before I saw my child's injury. you would have thought they would have reached out to apologize or address my concern. they didn't even respond or care. .my bill was always in the thousands, double billed etc. I was even advised by the owner to get the insurance he likes with a insurancr broker he knows after paying him a fee of 85.00. the professional thing would have been to just tell me the name of the anthem plan so I can buy it for free under the marketplace but no you pay him a referral fee to help you get a plan he likes that they can charge unlimited aba of which your child may not need. they always request more hours than needed as the charge nearly 1600 a DAY. there is no education they are doing that is special. he will even dissuade you from putting your cild in school so he can make over 150k a year from your insurance. he is a sales man and couldn't care less about the progress of your child. get your child in home aba. they generalize it better as being in a center is slower progress if ANY. then put them in prek. my child is not only talking at nearly age level but also potty trained in less than 3months of leaving that place. watch your tab!!! they will bill EVERYTHING. they wanted me to pay 15 for a bookbag the said broke a clear cheap bookbag..when I asked how does a bookbag break and and refused they were upset. For 1:1 care my child being injured was terrible. her eye was red. I provided every paper work needed and I contacted them every so often to check on my status in hopes to have my son with an ongoing schedule, but nothing! There was always some kind of excuse for my files to not be looked at by the billing department. Mind you, my insurance covered it all and I did everything right on my part. It was a serious headache. From getting all of the paper work the owner was asking for to the communication of him. I had to look somewhere else and I'm so glad I did because the following week, I received services. Until this day, many many weeks later, the owner hasn't reached out to me. How pathetic of a place.
