Great craft beers! The prices are a little high, and I worry about the freshness of all their slower-selling bottles, but all in all, a more upscale liquor store. They're always very friendly. I saw that they even have Dogfish Head 120-minute IPA. A 6-pack was $40 effing dollars, but they had it. A Rogers Park staple. read more

Drizly also needs this credit, but I wouldn't expect anything less but top notch efforts from Hops & Grapes. I couldn't leave my home, and ordered some beer. It took literally 4minutes to arrive! They're only 3-4 blocks away, but still. A bartender couldn't serve a beer that quick! He carried inside for me and everything! They have a great selection, and will even try and get a specific beer for you upon request. I love Rogers Park and what it's becoming! So many outstanding businesses are opening up! read more

A huge selection with something for everyone. Lots of craft beer options, ciders, wines, liquors, you name it. Great location for beachgoers or those of us lucky enough to live nearby. Clean, well-lighted and organized. I'm always able to find something new and different to try. Selection will vary, which is good to break you out of your comfort zone. The best local liquor store, not up for debate either. We happen to live between them and Brunos. Brunos is closer, but we will take the walk if we want some actual variety and a better price (no offense to Brunos). The customer service is on point, as the cashier is always polite and attentive. He doesn't make you feel rushed. The store is nicely lit and clean. They have a large variety of drinks. IPAs, ciders, wines. ALLOFDAT. We usually just like to grab whatever rotation of Cider Boys that they have. And better yet, if they don't have a certain drink you want, you can put your email down on their request list with what you're looking for. I also hear they deliver, but I live 3 blocks away so its no help to me. Highly recommend them. read more

This a pretty good neighborhood liquor store. The craft beer selection is a great one and they have a ton of other stuff. The beer is moderately priced but I have checked out the prices on some liquor and it is very high compared to a grocery store. The service that everyone seems to love was not there when I visited a few times but honestly I just get what I need and leave so it's fine. This review is strictly related to their craft beer selection and practices. The following are things I found displeasing about the store. 1) If you're looking for rare releases, expect a heavy mark-up. Just this week, they were selling Bourbon County variants for $40-$50 a bottle. Afterwards, I went to Binny's where I found the SAME EXACT BOTTLES for $22.50. Proprietors was selling for more than double what you can get a 5 minute drive away. Do your homework on this stuff before you go in and buy. Even non-rares were quite marked up. 2) Shelves full of old beers. I saw IPAs from 2017 still siting on the shelf. Be careful and make sure to check bottling/canning dates before buying. 3) They don't sell singles. This means that if you want to try something, you need to commit to a 4- or 6-pack. Other similar stores (e.g. Binny's, Whole Foods) do sell many as singles. read more

So happened to be in the area looking for a place to buy drinks for a party and stumbled across this place. First off, love the name. However you'll find more than beer and wine there. They have a pretty top notch liquor selection and if you're a bourbon or tequila lover then you certainly won't be disappointed. The store is relatively new, very clean, very bright and the staff is friendly. There's even a list by the counter where they're taking customer suggestions. I'll pretend as though I didn't see some dorks request for bacon flavored vodka...All and all a good experience and the prices are pretty solid as well. Some things better than others. This is, perhaps, my favorite beer store in the city. It is a close second to Andersonville Wine & Spirits, but being that I don't live in A-ville anymore, this is my new go-to. Everything is well-organized, cold and nicely displayed. The beer selection is top-notch, with tons of seasonals. I haven't really ventured into wine or spirits here, but by the looks of the entire store, you can't go wrong. read more

They're incredibly nice and you can request anything they don't have and he'll get it for you! 6-packs are a bit pricey ($10.99) but not bad at all. I certainly do not recommend this place. The staff is incredibly rude and combative; when you complain, they whine and whine that they are right and that you should be a good customer (they assume you are a bad customer if you complain about anything). I had a delivery through one of those apps and the guy who came rang the bell several times... I went downstairs immediately and asked him to stop. He then made a racist comment about me being Hispanic (which is confussing 'cause he is Hispanic too) and then demanded in the most disgusting and rude way to see my ID and card; and when I told him that I had to go upstairs again to get my card he snapped, yelled at me and cancelled right there my order... Obviously I called Hops & Grapes to complain. His boss made him come back, and he did, but way more agressive. At the end the boss defended all his actions, but I did get my booze. Don't expose yourself to this treatment, there are plenty of other liquor stores read more

UPDATED REVIEW (Nov 2016): The smell of incense is way down! And I haven't come across any expired beer recently, but I have noticed that "Bottled on" dates for some IPAs seem pretty old; if you buy a very popular, local beer like Pipeworks Lizard King, you're safe (it will be fresh). Still the best selection in Rogers Park (their biggest competition now is the Whole Foods in Edgewater), and they often get bottles of super-rare, high-demand beers (albeit priced at a noticeable mark-up compared to other stores). All in all, we're lucky to have them in the neighborhood. Pros: Great craft beer selection--best in Rogers Park by far. They frequently get their hands on hard-to-find beers that almost no one else has (for example, a few months ago they had Dark Horse Plead the 5th in stock for a couple of *weeks*). And they are pretty good about updating their current inventory on Beer Menus, which is very helpful for those of us chasing our white whale craft beers around town. Their prices on beer are quite fair. Most of their extensive beer stock is already refrigerated. The staff is friendly, polite, and helpful. Cons: Several times I have cracked open a popular craft beer that was purchased from here only to realize that the beer is well past the printed "Enjoy by" date. I guess I need to do a better job of making sure to check the date before purchasing--Caveat Emptor, after all--but this can be annoying, and it seems a little disrespectful of their craft beer customers (for whom quality is kinda important). The store reeks of what I believe is incense. It's strong--so strong that the plastic bags that they put your beer in reeks of the perfume smell when you get home. I honestly can't comprehend why a store that sells everything in bottles and cans would need incense. Overall: If Hops and Grapes would make sure that all the beer they sell is fresh--and also get rid of the incense--I would gladly give the store a 5 star rating. read more

My only issue is the lack of periodic sales and promotional deals. I would love to see that as it provides the loyal customers more of an incentive to shop here. read more

I come in all the time (live around the block) and I absolutely love the selection, atmosphere, and most of all the staff! Every time I come in here the staff always greet me warmly and I feel so welcome. I used to go other stores in the area, thinking that prices were higher here but it is totally not the case. I am so excited this place opened around the corner from me. It's great. There is a huge selection of beer and wine. I was really impressed with the beer selection.
