This is a really nice liquor store. Not only do they have a good selection but the staff is also very friendly. They say hello every-time i walk in and always ask if i need any help (in a non harassing way). Their prices tend to be a bit on the high side, but I don't live close to Binny's, so this is my local spot. Vas Foremost = Vast Beer Selection! Vas Foremost is at least twice the size of MW Liquor store located at Milwaukee and Western. So, obviously they have a much bigger selection. I'm a beer snob, so honestly when I walked into the store I made a bee-line straight towards the beer selection. I'm sure the liquor and wine selections are pretty nice, but I honestly didn't look. I was too busy checking out all of the beer! There's a wide selection of microbrews and imports from all over the world. They even had about 8-10 Latin American beers that I've never seen before. Just to attempt to give you a better idea of the selection, I'll list the beers we bought during our trip to the store: Tommy Knocker Nut Brown Maple Ale, Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, Kwak, Triple Karmeliet, Gulden Drak and Arcadia Ales Coco Loco Stout. I only have I complaint about the store. It's a little annoying that the majority of their beer is sold cold. It's only a problem because my husband and I like to stock up on a variety of good beer whenever we find it....and our refrigerator is only so big. This is the only reason I didn't give Vas a 5 star review. Well, that and the fact that the store looks like the kind of place that would get robbed. I like beer that gets me drunk on two bottles. Vas Foremost carries that kind of beer. I think I could try a different beer each day and still never exhaust their selection. It's mind-boggling. We go through a LOT of booze at my house, so despite my regular Sam's runs, I find myself running out for a case or two, a handle of Beam, and decent scotch on a pretty regular basis. That is where ye olde Vas comes in.... VERY nice selection of booze (Dalwhinnie? At a neighborhood liquor store? Nice, very nice.), incredible beer selection, plenty o mixers, decent wines. My one quibble - not enough cheap ass canned beer. No, seriously, I'm talking 30 packs of Hamms & such - they just don't have much. If you had as many people drinking at your place as I do at mine, trust me, you'd buy the cheap stuff too. Also, it fits in our fridge better. All that I have to say is that this is my supply depot. Okay well, I can't stop there... this place rocks FAR too much for me only to say that. Every time I need to buy another bottle of Maker's, Woodford, Bookers... or whatever the heck bourbon I feel like buying... this is the place to go. They have an awesome selection, pricing that is totally reasonable - if not being the cheapest around. And it is certainly Bourbontastic(tm)! They have a great wine selection, they carry Lambic (WTF?!?) and also a lot of rare beers that you don't normally see. So do not hesitate. I really like this liquor store. They have a really awesome selection of American craft beers, and almost all of them are in the fridge, ready to be consumed. They also have a smaller selection of imports, including some Belgians. I've never really shopped for wine here, but the selection seems good. Hours are good, prices are a bit expensive for the neighborhood, but due to its convenience and selection, it's one of my favorites in the city. For all you car drivers out there, they also have their own (small) parking lot so you can stock up if you need to. read more

Vas is a neighborhood institution. If you're going to get your drink on, this place has anything you need and probably another version of it too. Huge refrigerator section for domestic and import cases, with very good prices. Great deals abound here. You can get cases of domestics really cheap here, the cheapest 6-pack is Hamm's for a mere $2.79. They also have cases of Chimay (Belgian lambic ale brewed by Trappist monks - it's delicious and very alcoholic) for $92.00. And anything you can imagine in between. So basically, if you're trying to find beer, just imagine if the Map Room was a store that had really cheap prices. Their liquor and wine selection is equally appealing, even if Binny's or other stores probably have a bigger selection. The price is right and it's right in the neighborhood, with a parking lot for easy access as someone else commented. In all, this place can't be beat. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and you can also pick up your choice of newspaper: Trib, Sun-Times, Reader, or Polish daily. Long live Vas Foremost! read more

I'm saying what has been said, again and again: this place rocks. The employees are nice (even when you come in drunk), the beer selection is amazing, and their prices are reasonable. Confused as to why anyone would give this anything below 4 stars I checked the few 3 star reviews. The main qualm is price... but I must say that their prices are competitive for the area. Sure, if you have a car and can drive out of the city or to a Binny's you might find their specialty beers a few bucks cheaper. But I don't have a car, and they are a hell of a lot cheaper than other area liquor stores ::cough::D&D::. And they have the greatest selection of pumpkin beers I've ever seen, even compared to Binny's. I'm addicted to seasonal beers... and Hamms. So this place suits me perfectly. read more

As I was in Chicago for work I clearly wasn't going to pay Chicago bar prices to turn up! If you don't know, Chicago bars are rather pricey... at least from my experience. So I found the local liquor store. What did I end up finding Vas Foremost Liquors, the spot was extremely clutch. It is located in the middle of Logan square right off of Wisconsin and def right off of the Logan square train stop. They had a very large variety of beer, wine, and liquor. What stood out the most to me though was that they had some fresh produce in the store as well. There were lemons and limes and they had a whole variety of mixers in the fridge across from the produce. The customer service was just alright though, the gentlemen were very helpful but the two young ladies were rather rude when asking about playing the lottery and if I had cash or card. It definitely did not discourage me as I was in Chicago for 3 days and made multiple visits to the store..... so much that I am now the DUKE!!! Since going out has become practically verboten in my horribly demanding stressful life from crap, that doesn't mean I can't drink. In fact, it necessitates drinking. Fact. Enter Foremost. With a strikingly complete variety of beers (as well as bourbons, including my most favorite, the name of which I won't mention here so that you heathens don't take everything from me! Muahaha..!), I can satiate whatever specific craving (aside from desire to de-stress) that underlies the buying of the beer.. from cheap to pricy, from IPAs that are refreshing to overhopped, from light to dark, wheat to bitter, from this here timezone to one that makes it tomorrow where its produced.. they have it all. Oh, and a lot of wines, too, but do I drink wine? NO. Also, they have a few perks: C. Howard's Violet-flavored mints and gum, and a really good selection of Ritter Sport chocolates (no, not just milk-with-hazelnut, but also a fine milk-with-crushed-cornflakes). Superfine service, too. It's one of the best selections of alcohol in town without going to a gigantic liquor store. I used to live right above this place, and man oh man... talk about location. I could run downstairs and grab whatever I wanted during a commercial break, and I wouldn't miss anything! And when I say "whatever I want," I mean whatever I want. Cheap sixer? Import? Microbrew? Classy bottle of wine? Margarita makings? Selection is great; best in the neighborhood. It might not actually have "everything," but more than enough to put them far above anyplace else around. Prices aren't necessarily any lower, but they're not any higher. The staff is also very nice, and they're very accomodating. My old roommate wanted a certain wine, mentioned it to them, and the next week... it was in stock. read more

Really love this spot. The positives? They always have a great selection, including several more rare-ish finds. We were able to find BCBS variants AFTER black Friday - no waiting in lines for this gal! Also, there is always a knowledgeable employee working who you can chat with. The negatives? Oh Vas Foremost, how do I thank thee? I think that, contrary to some reviews regarding the prices, this liquor store has the best prices I've seen in the city. They are all completely fair and there is a wide range of EVERYTHING to satisfy every patron who enters this excellent establishment. I think that some of the beer is expensive, sure, but we have to remember where it's coming from and who is making it. Foreign microbrews are always going to be expensive, so don't be shocked that a 6-pack costs $12. Their prices are great for everything from New Belgium to Goose Island and they're all cheaper than Jewel/Dominicks. The selection is obviously far superior, as well. Even outside of the beer cooler, the wine selection is way above average for a place that isn't strictly a wine shop and a lot of the bottles from Spain/France/Italy are good and priced just right. The liquor section also has something for everyone, from any kind of syrup/liqueur you can imagine (even stuff you've never even heard of) to Everclear (there's even crazy looking generic Everclear - that's just insane) and cheap Polish potato vodka. Definitely the best liquor store I've been to in the city. Even compared to Sam's (my old favorite), the prices are superior. Sam's obviously has the greatest selection (it is a warehouse), but most of it is overpriced or the same price as Vas. You should visit it one day... it truly is glorious. read more

Swinging by here is almost a tradition now. The significant other and I go on runs of random beers (a budding beer snob/slob(?) she is) and we step foot in here. We peruse the aisles for a six'er we haven't had yet that hopefully won't taste like Busch Light. We often find their selection to be top notch, well compared to the rest of the stores in the area. Their service is nice and very helpful. The only 'knock' on it is that they have a ridiculous selection of wine in store. From South Africa to Poland, they have wines from all over. So why is this a knock? Not a wine drinker at all. repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Buy a sixer, hop on the blue line and head off to a party; this place is the perfect stop to stock on pregame or main party drinks. read more

Vas Foremost is one of those awesome, old school neighborhood liquor stores. It reminds me of my favorite Wisconsin liquor store Otto's. There's nothing better than picking up some brews down the street on the way home. They have a great beer selection which can be overwhelming when you want to pick up something on fly or can be horribly indecisive like me! The amazing selection ranges from cheap beer (Miller) to local (Goose Island) to highly prized (Great Lakes, Delirum). There's also an awesome selection of spirits and wine all perfect for some alcohol in a pinch. The owners are also extremely nice and friendly. Also, if you are searching for something and can't seem to find it, the people working are very helpful. I went in there wanting something similar to beers I drink, and they offered up other choices to try. It's always bad when you buy alcohol on a whim and it's horrible. For a liquor store in, you know, the middle of nowhere (as Bucktownians and LP-types might think), these fellas sure have a good handle on the wobbly pop. I nearly had a coronary (at such a young age, would have been tragic) when I didn't see my favorite Canuckistanian beers where they always were. Dude just laughed and pointed me to a different part of the cooler. Crisis averted. Every other liquor store in the hood pretty much tops out at Modelo and Heiniken. Gah. These guys have Unibroue, Duvel, and frickin Chimay. Also a decent Scotch selection, which is important when the brain screams for Oban. I used to live steps from there, but sadly I've moved over four blocks away. This will put a damper on beer runs, so I shall have to plan ahead from here on out. read more

Regardless of whether beer, wine, or liquor is your poison of choice, Vas Foremost has a great variety of options to help you self-medicate whatever social disorder you happen to be suffering from at the moment (in this neighborhood, it seems to be hipster-that-gets-angry-when-you-call-them-hipster-because-they're-actually-mod-or-indie-or-something). Beerwise, they have a large variety of both American micro and European import, along with the usual roundup of corn/rice beer lite for people who hate their tastebuds. Most all of the beers are in coolers, which is nice. Unfortunately, there just doesn't seem to be enough beer nerds in the neighborhood, because I've occasionally run into bottles past the expiration date. Damn you hipsters, start drinking better beer! Winewise, they have a nice selection from across the world, and thankfully (for my snobbish tastes anyways) the selection isn't overly dominated by overpriced California wines. Staff is knowledgeable and approachable, and the prices are quite nice. Only complaint here is that they don't have very many pre-chilled whites. Boozewise, if you want to drink it and it's delicious and/or shitty and cheap, Vas Foremost is your place. And they have free tastings on Fridays (or is it Saturdays?)! read more

Back in college I had this friend named Stu who had the soothing presence of a monk (even though he looked like Pat Sajak). Every time I'd make a boneheaded move, like sleeping through finals, I'd go to Stu's room and spill my guts about what a big loser I'd become. Stu would just sit there looking serene and supportive and, after maybe 10 minutes, utter a very simple yet poignant comment that would always bring my mood back up to a safe manic place. Man, I miss that kid. Anyway, late one night during a month-long bender in 2002 (I do that after every downsizing), I stumbled into this store looking to load up my fridge with another 6-pack of Old Style or whatever else I could afford with the change pulled from beneath my car seats. While hauling my booty to the cash register, I swear to god, one of the guys ahead of me in line looked EXACTLY like Stu. This totally excited me, because I really needed someone to steer me out of my funk that night. So I grabbed the dude by the shoulder and said, "Stu, Stu, it's me! It's Ryan, from school, remember, we..." Then I realized that this guy was not Stu after all, but some bewilderingly fair-skinned Mexican Pat Sajak lookalike who was scared half to death to have a drunk stranger hug him in a Logan Square liquor store. Quickly, I took my hands off of the guy, but it was too late. The clerk shot me a menacing glare, some guy behind me in line called me a "crackhead," and the Mexican Stu-Sajak doppelganger made an angry remark in Spanish and bolted out of the door. Meekly, I counted out my the price of my Old Style in nickels and pennies, further irritating the dude behind me in line, who again called me a crackhead. After that night, I cut back on my drinking and went on a diet. Found a new job. Sort of got my shit together. Thanks, Foremost Liquors. read more

Thrilled to find a liquor store where they hold a LARGE selection of craft beers! I was able to pick up three floyds gumball head and zombie dust, all in one trip! That's basically unheard of due to the limited quantities this brewery produces. The store is very neat, clean and professional! The lady attendant was very helpful, sweet and kind! Happy to have a GOOD local liquor store walking distance from my house, for those times when 7-11 just ain't cutting it. Not only does Vas Foremost have a great selection of beer - from microbrews to belgian big bottles to megabrews to 40oz and variety 12 packs, they have it all - but they also have a wide range of Bourbon and Scotch, two of my favorite liquors, as well as a fair selection of gin. And, they also have Malört as any self-respecting Chicago liquor store should. Can't say much about their wine selection, but they do have two full aisles of it, so even if it isn't the best, you'll at least have a wide selection. The convenience of the place doesn't hurt its rating either - it's on the way home from the train for me, and often I hear Vas calling to me. Vas is perfect for when you are going to the train and need to pick up a six pack of something cheap, coming home from work and need to pick up a bottle of Basil Hayden's, or going to Putrid's and need to pick up a 30 pack of old style, a bottle of Malibu, a thing of pineapple juice, and a pint of Jim Beam. My one qualm is that it's a bit expensive - compared to Binny's, of course, but in general, I'd say it's about a good $.50-$2 more per bottle than most places. read more

The chilled beer selection is what kills it here. You can get a ton of quality craft brews and the majority of their selection is in the cooler. I have wandered through the wine aisles in the past and there isn't much rhyme or reason to the order. Granted, that's not really why I drop in here as I have plenty of other places to take care of my vino desires. No, why I come here is the beer. And that's what they really seem to specialize in. As I noted, the chilled selection is very deep. Along with that, you have some hard to find beers normally just sitting on the shelf. The prices can be slightly higher than binny's, but you are also more likely to get hard to find beers here than binny's (mostly because people don't trek here as they would for the lincoln park store). Vas Foremost is also right by rev. So, this also creates a situation where I may do some spending after a few beers. Good for Foremost, not always good for me. Still, I do enjoy stopping in and grabbing something every now and then. read more

I'm not a liquor store expert. I pretty much visit the nearest liquor store when I'm in need. Currently, this is the closest to my apartment. It is conveniently located on my walk home from the el, or if I'm at home and the mood strikes, it is a very short, lovely walk away. I love the beer selection here. Most of the time I walk in, spend a good 10 minutes examining my options and grab a random six pack of some beer I've never tried before. It's a fun Russian roulette type game and so far I've been pretty happy with the results. Currently they have quite a few pumpkin beers, which makes me happy -- though I would like to encourage them to re-stock Southern Tier's Pumking beer, as they've run out and it's only mid-October. The wine selection is good, as is the liquor selection. Basically I'm really happy that this is my local place. I can't speak to the prices because I don't really bargain shop for liquor, I buy it when I need it. Additionally, I am in here way too much. Sometimes I feel embarrassed about that but the employees thankfully ignore my status as a regular and even card me 1/2 the time. read more

Great cold beer selection - Belgian Ales, Hand-Crafted Beers, Imports. Wines by the bottle are reasonably priced. Best deals in the store are on Honey Brown and Sapporo .. both priced much lower than you'd find at the grocery store. Parking lot is undergoing renovation .. should be done by spring. read more

I didn't think there were any places that sold ANY Lakefront Brewery beer, or Sprecher beer south of the WI/IL border, till now. This place proved me wrong, and I'm glad it did. It doesn't have the wide variety of Wisconsin beer you'll find at say, Woodman's in Kenosha(what place could even match up w/that beast of a store?), but I greatly appreciate that they at least carry a much better than expected selection of Wisconsin microbrews, and other hard-to-find microbrews from other states. Don't have enough of a feel yet on how their prices are versus other stores, but it definitely blew what I considered the gold standard for neighborhood liquor stores(Andersonville Wine and Spirits) away in almost all categories. Even finally ended my long search for sloe gin, since I'd wanted to make some mix drinks w/that, and finding it at many area liquor stores is nearly impossible. Was debating between 4 and 5 stars, but I'll go up, since they have both a sufficient-sized parking lot, and the selection in so many categories was mindblowing. One more thing I initially forgot, they close at 1am everyday, so that time is very handy if you need to do a last-minute booze run. read more

This place is my one stop shop for all of my alcohol needs. Yup. They have basically everything under the sun for my alcohol needs. So, I usually go there for cachaca for caipirinhas, but if I just want to see what is new and exciting in the world of alcohol, I go here. The last time I went (very recently) they had a Kazakhstani vodka called Snow Queen with the most beautiful picture of an actual snow queen on it, so I HAD to get it. I mean its so cheesey. I love it. I just cant wait to go back to satisfy my alcohol needs. ;) read more
