This is a nice comic book store and they have new releases. However, they are now moving to a subscription based operation. Minimum $10 per month to be given the privilege of being a customer. I have never heard of a business operating purely on a subscription model. And I will not be participating. So as of June 1st, when this change goes into effect, I will no longer be a customer and will take my business elsewhere. The reasons given for this change blame customers instead of their lack of business sense. It sounds like they don't know their customer base (i.e. they don't know what to pre-order and what doesn't sell). We have enough subscription based crap being forced on us (cars, housing, etc.). STOP WITH THE SUBSCRIPTIONS. read more

Hubby and I came to Horizon Comics yesterday. We had been there once over a year ago. We were going to Bases Cards & Comics, but they up-charge their comics. A comic is $3.99, but Bases Comics charges $10. Wow. Anyway, we then decided to visit Horizon Comics. I'm glad we did. Store is huge, clean and so nice!! They do not upcharge their items. They can also preorder Comics and other items for customers, which is great. All around they're professional, super nice and friendly. My go to comic store from now on!!! Don't go anywhere else!! If I could give this shop 10 stars I would, the best comic book shop ever! You can really see the work the owners put into making sure the store is clean and the artwork is amazing! From the Harry Potter section to the Smash Bros mural on the wall in the back of the store. The attention to detail and passion really shows through, the store is an experience all on its own. Raquel and Richard are two very extraordinary people, they are welcoming and really care about their customers. They truly make you feel welcomed! They have an app that lets you look at books as well which is great, even if you don't use the app they keep the comics stocked very neatly and easy to see on the shelves. They have comics old and new, a graded wall, and collectibles as well. Truly a great shop run by great people, please check them out! Definitely not the same like when Roger owned this establishment...unwelcoming and unfriendly staff besides 1 male individual who dresses vintage. The woman who works at the counter, I think Raquel, is entirely off putting and doesn't greet you or make you feel like your welcomed into this establishment. No "Hello" or "Hi welcome", nothing! The new owner Richard is usually extremely quiet and nowhere to be found half the time. They do play favorites, so if you're not in the inner circle, you will probably be ignored. Customer appreciation is so important for business and I wanted to continue to support this establishment, but just can't anymore with the lack of respect and decency towards customers who are the bread and butter for business. Look if you just want to pick up current issues for cover price this place is great for that, but I'd stay away from back issues and the slabs here as they're all over priced and above market. Fix the attitudes here and this place could be awesome, but at the moment I won't visit anymore and hope to hear about positive changes soon with regards to customer service then maybe I'll be back. read more

Great little LCS here in AV. Sure there are a couple other shops but none seem to match Roger's great attitude, attention to customer's needs and just overall great customer service! Roger is the owner of the shop, and he offers a discount if you setup a pull with him, no minimum requirements or anything stupid that other local shops try to force upon you, and a decent 20% shave off the cover price. (As of 05/13/2015, does not apply to variant covers.) The shop itself is small, and you're best set of you're looking for back issues of recent comics. He doesn't have Older comic back issues that I know of. There are also other collectible statues, books and figures to be seen. The only complaint I had (not really their fault) is that they use Comixology to maintain your pull list. Overall this works 80% of the time, but if you're trying to keep track of special variant issues, you already may know that Comixology doesn't publish all available books. To counter this, you'll have to make sure you use other sources such as Previews, etc to know what's coming up. Once you know what you want, of the shop is expecting that in, Roger will do his best to make sure you get it in your eager little hands on That magical Wednesday. Horizon even offers random raffles where you can round up your purchase for a ticket, or purchase tickets for great prizes. Roger maintains a fair presence on Instagram, add @horizoncomics to your list. There you'll get notifications on raffle winners, upcoming events, and promotions. Recently They participated in Free Comic Book Day, and They had plenty of comics on hand for everyone and even had some spares in the following days. Other shops around here are "backup plans". This should be your main shop, and Roger needs to be your main dude in town! read more

Free Comic Book Day 2019 Horizon Comics: We park in front of Horizon. I tell my children that our FCBD will get better. The Robinsons enter the shop. It's packed as I expected. Roger is in the middle, directing the traffic in his store. I get his attention. Roger smiles and welcomes us in. He can see the look on my face and asks how my day is going. I tell him it hasn't gone so well for me and my children. Roger reassures us that it will get better at Horizon, because it's FCBD and the limit in his store is 15 single issues total. Announcing to all of his patrons that it's whatever FCBD issue you want so long as it's only fifteen. I didn't even have to ask. The store policy was stated and understood by everyone, including the Robinsons. We got it. I let my kids go to look around and see what FCBD issues were left. Roger quickly rings up another customer. He allows me to pull him aside for a minute. I explain to Roger that my kids are frazzled and a little heartbroken because of their recent and still fresh experience at Bases Comics down the street. Roger didn't like what he heard but reassured me and the kids. He smiled and told me to hook my children up. 15 single FCBD issues each. Roger left to go take care of his store. I followed my kids through waves of patrons. Directing them to the back where the FCBD issues were. Of course the selection was different. Some books were not there like the other store. My children's faces turned to disappointment again. I pulled my kids around the corner to the back room where there were more vendors selling comics and serving food. There were also local writers and artists with tables showing off their work and doing autograph signings. I met one artist, and talked to him briefly. I ended up buying an issue of his work which he signed before taking a picture. Everyone there within the shop was were friendly. More like family than stranger. Presley even got her face painted for free, like last year's FCBD event at Horizon. But I could still tell that my kids were struggling emotionally. So I went ahead and got them together so I could make the day worth it. Roger normally sets up his usual 20-30 percent off pricing within the store on FCBD. He also pulls a certain amount of back issues for his $1 issue /$50 fill a short box sale outside. I've done the $50 fill a box twice before, averaging between 150 to 180 books per short box. I usually buy one. Today I bought two. One for me. One for my kids. I told them to go outside and fill that box with whatever they wanted outside, as long as they didn't fight. My children lit up immediately. The smiles returned. The joy of collecting comic books returned. Isn't THAT what Free Comic Book Day is suppose to be about?? It took about an hour, but the Robinsons filled their boxes to the brim. It was the easiest $108 I believe I've ever spent. All of my children got their hands and face painted. I got to see a good friend Jason Greene for the first time in a long time while filling my short box outside. Rogers wife Theresa even allowed my children to go with her to search for whatever remaining FCBD issues they had left behind the counter just so the kids wouldn't miss anything. We took a few more pictures and thanked her. I also got one more chance to thank the owner of Horizon Comics one last time for his understanding, generosity and warmth. Wow, what a hidden Gem in Lancaster, being an avid DC comics collector I always get alerts about nearby comic book stores. I never would of imagined I would find one of the coolest comic book stores in Lancaster of all places. Google said it was bye appointment only and they were open, quick phone call and 15 mins later I was knee deep in some of the best books and collectibles I have seen in 20 years. I just left this location. The customer service is fantastic. My 9 year old grandson was looking for the Batman Fortnite comic. They made him feel so special and he is excited to come back and get the rest of the series. We are looking forward to many more trips here. They are also amazing in the fact they aren't out to gouge their customers. So many other businesses will try to inflate the prices on wanted items but they don't do that here. Came in here on a Wednesday night just to check it out. I was looking for older comics. I was greeted by the owner and asked if he could help. It's a small store but it seems like the owner is talkative to the customers and recommends books. There are no older back issues, seems they specialize in current issues and probably have 6 months back of the current issue stock which can be nice if you missed an issue or an issue gets hot and you don't want to pay eBay prices for something you can get at cover price. They also have lots of trades which helps when you just want to read an arc or story from beginning to end without hunting for single issues. read more

The gentleman who helped me (I think was the owner, I never got his name) went above and beyond for me. I came in with little knowledge, I was getting a comic as a surprise for a little boy who will be going through surgery. I wanted something for him to read during his recovery. The gentleman helped me out so much because I have little to no knowledge about comics. He really spent the time to help me find something that would be appropriate and a good read for him. This place gets overlooked because of its location, but it is awesome. The store owner is friendly, and willing to chat comics with you at any time. Other places charge for the plastic and backboard on each comic, but horizon not only skips that charge, they take 20% off every issue and graphic novel. It's small, but well stocked, and if you can't find it, they'll get it. My friend looked at three comic shops to find six early issues of xmen, where they all assured him he'd have trouble finding unless he got it online. This is by far the best comic book store in the AV. I would even go as far as saying best I have been to including anywhere in LA. Roger (the owner) is one of the most friendly guys you will meet. If you feel uncertain about anything or need help understanding comics he will gladly assist you. I consider this store one of the best because of how well kept he keeps his comics. Roger bags and boards every comic that goes on the racks and he does not charge extra like other stores. If you decide to be on his pull list he will automatically take 20% off all your weekly purchases. If you don't see a specific comic on the rack ask him and he will check in the back of his shop where he stores more. If he can't find it or you want a specific comic he will go online and let you know if he can order it for you. The level of customer service and stock of new comics is hard to come by at other comic stores, but Horizon is different and Roger delivers. read more

Back-issues abound here. Great selection and even better service. The owners are incredibly friendly and Roger is great for recommendations and conversation. I'll occasionally (read: often) ask for an OOP or relatively limited release title and am always amazed that not only do they more often than not have it in stock, they take 20% off the cover price to boot. It's a veritable treasure trove of comics. No problem having other books ordered in as well. Really, you're missing out by not shopping here. I'd give 'em more stars if I could. read more
