The Hornsby Inn is an interesting throwback to a different era--part pub,(bar), part bistro, and…read morepart hotel. Previously I reviewed the hotel aspect. This review is about the bistro. Today there is a karaoke event going on in the bar in the next room. Add about 2000 starlings outside trying to settle for the night and it's very noisy. Other times I have walked through and it's very quiet. They have some interesting menu items but what is on the website is more extensive than what is actually offered. No veggie nachos, for example. They have beef nachos but you can't take the beef off because it's all mixed together already. I ordered the nachos anyway, figuring I could separate the beef, which I was able to do partially. I liked the dish over all. There was a goodly pile of chips with the beef mixture, guac and sour cream. I would have liked more beans. The tomato bits and jalapeños added flavor. With the addition of a draw of Tooey's it was a tasty meal. The place wasn't busy and the staff wear masks as do customers. There's a sign on the door that says you must be vaccinated to come in, but I don't know if they check it.

I really wasn't all that impressed with this place. I guess it was because it was basically your…read morestandard suburban pub. In fact I'd go as far as calling it a shopping centre pub, namely because it is pretty close to the local shopping centre, though it isn't strictly a part of it. However, they really didn't have a great selection of beers, and the atmosphere wasn't all the best either. However, the staff were nice.

However, it was still rather nice, with the beer garden out the front, and the decent options with regards to the beers on tap. Yeah, it wasn't all that bad and would make a particularly nice local pub as well.

This is going to be a great review. Trust me! I am from US. I made a reservation here to stay 14…read moredays. When I got here, we discovered a number of things: 1) it is a pub/hotel , which meant that it is not a hotel proper. The rooms to rent are above the hotel and that is 40 steps and no lift to the rooms. Being 71 and my wife 62 with bad knees, this was an impossibility. You may think, " What so great about this review? " It is the owners. When we got there, we discovered our credit cards were not working (forgot to notify our bank before leaving) The young women helping us was trying to give us all kinds of solutions, but nothing was working. I, finally, got the cards working, but by then, the owner showed up and told us that we didn't want to stay there, telling us the story of the pub/hotel and the 40 steps. Then he sat down and started helping us find another hotel, then eliminating the current reservation. Afterward, we sat down had lunch, some of the best fish and chips we have ever eaten. I ordered a beer, which he comped me. Seriously!! We will be doing a miniature show across the street this weekend and I will be having more of those delicious fish and chips (and beer which I will pay for) These people are awesome!!

I stayed here for a few days to attend a wedding. Definitely did not give a good first impression…read more We went to check-in to our room (we had 2 bookings for 2 rooms), they only found one of the two bookings. They spent about 30 minutes looking for the other booking. Turns out it was a problem with the website we booked with. Anyways, after about 30 minutes of waiting around in the lobby, they just decided to send us to one of the rooms that we booked to wait instead. They told us that they would come up in 15 minutes to give us the keys to the other room. 45 minutes later...no one comes up. We call reception from the room phone, it somehow goes to another department and we had to be redirected ( aka the tags on the phone were wrong). They tell us they will come up shortly with the keys. Another 15 minutes later, we finally get the keys to the other room. A day later, the internet server dies. We call the reception and they say it will be fixed later that day. Later that day, it STILL is not fixed and then they tell us it will be fixed tomorrow. Tomorrow morning, it is still not fixed and they claim they are working on it. Later that night, it is FINALLY fixed. The facilities are pretty nice, rooms are quite spacious and I like how the office area is apart from the beds so one person can work while the other sleeps. They have a wide range of tv channels. Overall, the only issue I had with this hotel was the initial impression and the internet problem, otherwise, the rooms and other amenities are quite impressive.
