Anyway, this was a nice little pub a short walk from the ferry terminal (which I knew about beforehand, so was one of the reasons that I went to Double Bay) and it wasn't what I expected. When I think of the Eastern Suburbs, especially near the habour, I tend to think rich and exclusive, however this pub was nothing of the sort. It was nicer than your typical suburban pub, but it was pretty relaxed. There was a nice beer garden out the back, and the staff were pretty friendly as well. Definitely a pub that I would visit again.

This is why they are called hotels. It doesn't mean anything like a hotel you're probably used to if you're from the USA like me so don't expect more than the bare minimum if you're staying in any pub hotel. I just came here for the food and the pokies (aka slot machines, because gambling is a whole other weird Australian thing) for the quintessential Australian experience. They just recently revamped their menu and now offer pho, which may or may not be good. At any rate, I tried the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and it was a darn good schnitty. Portions are huge and prices are good, which is a sweet relief from all the food elsewhere in Sydney.

Well, there is a bus that goes past every so often, so that helped me out somewhat. As a pub, it isn't bad, but it is what you tend to get when dealing with pubs in industrial areas. What's changed is the neighborhood... The central business district used to be well located for site seeing but pretty dead atmosphere wise. Just corporate buildings and workers. Quiet at night and silent on the weekends. Now, it's an amazing hub of activity with residents, coffee shops, restaurant, bars, shops and more plus the corporate buildings. The main drag, George Street, is now pedestrian only and relaxing to walk along. We look forward to returning again somehow, some way, in the future! We already agreed Mantra 2 on Bond Street will be our destination again! This time, my old friend, who is a local, invited me to The Vic On The Park for dinner. Through the street filled with lots of Mom 'n Pops shops on Enmore Rd, I arrived at the destination. It looks like an ordinary pub, but it has a patio in the back and even a basketball court! Wasting no time, I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel and a pint of beer. They had a pretty extensive list of craft beer. The chicken schnitzel was a bit different from what I usually eat. It was covered with ham and smothered with tomato sauce, somewhat leaning toward Chicken Parmesan. I guess the breading makes it more Chicken Schnitzel than others? But besides this little fuss, it tasted as good as it looked. Juicy-Inside-Crispy-Outside was perfect despite being endangered of getting soggy by the tomato sauce. A bit of a stretch from where I usually stay, but it's definitely a great place to be with locals instead of tourists.

But that wasn't the only thing that made this pub awesome, particularly since I don't play basketball. Make sure sunblock hat or umbrella . The room and hotel was clean. Love the white linen sheets. Our view is the Darhling harbor. Very nice. The TV here has only regular channel. No cable. The room was enough for 3 of us. Small kitchenette with kitchen wares. We didn't cook bcuz the food here is very reasonable. It was a very friendly place to stay . Definitely will stay again for another vacay here in Sydney. For now c u again Australia. G'mates ..... flying home to California USA

Positives: The room was avail early. Greatly appreciated after a 15 hr direct flight. We wanted to clean up b4 exploring "Harbor City"; Staff was super friendly & helpful. Mini bar items were complimentary; Good location in Barangaroo, a neighborhood on the edge of CBD. Plenty of bars & restaurants within walking distance; Negatives: Small 250 sf room. An upgrade to a 500 sf suite would have cost $180 AUD more per night; No lanai (patio) to take in the fresh air; No wand in the shower; No Executive lounge; No pool; No view for being so close to Darling Harbour; No local restaurant recs via the app like other Hiltons I have stayed at; Tiny gym; The No's (negatives), far outweigh the positives: I would not stay here again. Unfortunately, the Marriott, Hyatt & IHG properties in the area were unavailable via points during our stay, and the Four Seasons had bad recent reviews.
