There's several different trails with different levels of difficulty. We come here with our 3, 5, and 7 year old and it's a great way to have fun while wearing them out! The lower parts (near the water) do get really muddy if it rains so wear hiking boots or old sneakers. It's really pretty here at all seasons, but the fall is a must see. The weather was great and parking was plentiful. When I arrived I noticed the staff did not have the room prepared for the party people to set up- tables were locked in a closet with the chairs- which caused the event to start late and ALL hands on deck to help get it up- the staff agreed to an extra hour because they failed to have the room prepped- so as an attendee I was happy and said great they are making it better- However once our extra hour was the start a new and extremely rude employee denied the previous grant- she was awful to us yelling about trash. And inserting herself in the party. She stood over one of the servers and was so rude to him. This I felt was unacceptable and such a poor reflection on the event space. The only way I would ever come back is I was assured in writing accommodations and that same older woman was not working.

The bigger parking lot is off of Gainsborough and is also were they host music in the park during the summer.

There is one tiny section where you actually have to scramble. The rest of it is pretty much a moderate hike with some lite route-finding. People were throwing around all sorts of silly rules out of desperation in those days. I doubt any lives were saved by this; maybe the theory was to reduce human contact but realistically, we're talking about hiking in open air. Public health aside, I return to find even now there are still signs saying to take the trail one way. And having done it both ways many times, it's the wrong way! Absurd. Supposedly there's some justification, but I think that grown adults can figure out how to hike in two directions without running into each other. As an overall natural resource, it remains a gem (though it must be noted that the Billy Goat B trail downstream is currently closed due to damage). But whoever is making these stupid rules shouldn't be in the business of making rules at all. Thankfully some rebels were taking the trail in the northernly direction, as well they should.

Was here over the weekend for a fairy festival put on by the Reston Association. Parking was a…read morelittle awkward along the street but that was because they used the nature center parking lot for fun stations for the kids. My daughter enjoyed the bubbles and ribbons. I saw older kids appreciated the pine cone fairy crafting and wand making. After checking in we made our way along the walking trail through the woods to the pavilion where the fairy queen read a cute story while the kiddos enjoyed lemonade and snacks. The fairies and fairy houses along the way were adorable! Would love to come back and check out the visitors center when it isn't as crowded. I saw there was a lot of educational material about animals and plants.
