This new splash pad and playground serves as a reminder that damn Loudon County has some money. We got here at noon with our toddler and only planned to spend a couple of hours and ended up basically being here until they closed in the middle of summer at 8 PM. I think it's an amazing design to have three playground design for different ages right near the splash pad. Luckily it was like 5000° out so kids dried off the minute they left the waterpark to go to playgrounds. So being a wet mess really wasn't a concern. There are a few rules to the waterpark that includes no toys and no dogs and the standard diaper requirements for the incontinent , but otherwise it's pretty open and people were really really well behaved. The bathrooms are amazingly clean for a public bathrooms and offer wide enough stalls to change in. It's highly recommended because of temperatures and the fact that most of the place is concrete to wear water shoes. The only issue we had was that a baby kept putting wet banana peels like this was Mario kart in the splash pad and people kept tripping on them. Most of the water features are well functioning and a lot of fun. The playground themselves range from ages 5 to 12, and have a lot of hills with Astroturf, which is kind of fun to just roll down and they have slides built into them. There are a lot of climbing activities. The slides do get hot on a sunny day, but since the kids are already wet from the waterpark, they seem fine. And the park is very clean. We went on a weekday and it wasn't really that crowded, but I can see how weekends could be pretty full. They also have lots of tables for our families to sit down and enjoy some picnic items.

My kids love it. It's clean and lots of parking space and well maintained. It's worth visiting.read more

Wow, I am glad I didn't look at the reviews before going. I'm really surprised it gets such a low…read morerating but from reading what people have to say..it looks like it is because of the ticks. I went in January so I didn't run into that problem. It is grassy, meadowlike trails, so I can see where in the warm months there could be ticks. So many trails to get lost on and enjoy the natural beauty. I read there are 20 miles of trails and that in the spring the fields are filled with wildflowers. The trails are fairly easy hiking. Mostly flat with some small inclines from time to time but like I said, mostly meadow hiking. The only thing I wish was different was clearer signage around the trailheads. It took me awhile to figure out where certain trails began and where to access them. Once you're on them they are clearly marked. I've lived here all my life and this is certainly a hidden gem.

Lots of creatures live outdoors. LoL. Be prepared. You should apply sunscreen and then apply your bug spray. Wear socks that you can roll up if the grass gets high or roll down as needed. I have 50 hair ties in my bookbag. It gets hot, hair goes up. Don't hate it here because nature got the best of you. Try again in the fall. That's my plan anyway. The bugs were hungry today for sure. I spayed the first 10 min here and then I had to spray again an hour later! They bite thru your clothes so spray your clothing as well. I have never had issues w/ticks. Luckily they don't like me. IDK why but I spray my shoes too just in case. The trails are very well maintained. Mostly they are in the sun but there's a fair share if shady trails also. I did have some issues on the white oak trail. I had to stop and look for it at one point. It just faded out. Also on the White Oak trail I caught all the spider webs w/my body so thank me later! I felt like a cocoon coming off that trail. Yeck. I see they are growing trees and also put in some goats to keep the vegetation back. It's quite invasive for sure. So, yes I think fall would be nice. No bugs, less invasive plants and no leaves on the trees means I can see the view of Bull Run Mtn that much better. I enjoyed exploring this place. I'm pretty sure I'll be back.

Standing 70 feet tall, this polished steel form twists and tapers upward in a fluid, aerodynamic gesture. It commemorates the human journey of flight and the grandeur of the Museum's collection. Safer believed that sculpture should capture "the essence and reduce the subject to the pure line in space." This is truly metallurgical poetry and when you view it without the museum or the trees in the way, it looks like a rocket launch against the blue sky. You will find it in the parking lot of the National Air & Space Museum Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center. You cannot miss it as you are approaching the museum. It towers at 75 feet tall and looks like a spiraling contrail of a jet. It is made of polished stainless steel and is an abstract piece whose interpretation is left to the viewer. There are some that believe the sculpture's upward soaring image represents man's desire to soar to the heavens. Safer is a very active artist with his work being featured in over 1,000 museums and embassies worldwide. But most notably and least known, Safer was a WWII veteran and an emeritus board member of the Air and Space museum. I have to admit, I like this piece. It drew me in and I could not take my eyes off of it. The pieces sits in a calming reflection pool with a little waterfall. That is a nice touch and pushed it to five stars for me. I do not know if it is allowed or encouraged, but some people have even thrown some money into the sculpture's reflection pool. The sculpture sits right out of the museum's front door. It is connected by a long walkway and you pass through Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Wall of Honor, a collection of curved stainless steel plaques that line the walkway and lists the names of those that have received the flying cross and those with a passion for flight. This is not a destination piece, but an add on piece. The vast majority of the sculpture's viewers will be visitors of the museum. At $15 to park, I do not see it being a stand alone, even though I believe the first 20 minutes of parking are free. But anyway, this is a nice addition to the museum. I hung out at the sculpture about 10 minutes after I exited the museum. I recommend checking it out up close.
