It was within one hour of them closing and I ordered 5 Kettle Beef to go. The waitress immediately said they didn't have enough to make 5 orders. Someone from the kitchen hollered out, they did have enough. Great I was thinking! Once back home, we all soon realized that the waitress was correct in that the cafe didn't have enough Kettle Beef for 5 takeout. Our Kettle Beef was more akin to Beef soup, than traditional Kettle Beef. Bergoff Cafe apparently scraped the bottom of the pot, to complete this order!

I love beer and make my own, so I may be a bit more critical than others. The beer: Many of the beers are fine or downright good! However, on specifically the Altbier and Helles beers (two styles I personally have made and adore), there was a distinct scorched taste. This is a brewing flaw that would and has caused me to toss a batch down the drain. I wouldn't serve that to friends for free. The food: The pizza is pretty good but is served on cheap paper plates. Hopefully they improve this soon. Other non-beer drinks are served in plastic cups as well. I haven't had other food to comment on it. The service: Service has been slow for the most part, but the last couple times I went in I had a wonderfully attentive waitress whose name I have since forgotten. Discussion: My main hope would be that the brewers would figure out how to avoid scorching, and that they would critically examine their beer to customers. Scorching is unacceptable from a commercial brewery. Aside from that, basic improvements like real glasses and platters for pizza along with sorting out growing pains with the service. I'll likely go back in the future at some point. There's better much brewpubs in the area at this point, but I'd love to come back in the future to an improved product.

(in-attentive, slow service and very long "hour or more" wait time for food/pizza). I get it that they've just opened up and it takes some time to get your feet under you. Our area is blessed with many options for craft beer, and food along with it is just as important. My experience was as follows: Walked in looking to choose a table (self-seating) hoping that we'd be noticed. After 5=10 minutes or so, wait staff approaches to get drink/appetizer order... we got a couple of beers (American IPA and dirty laundry brown ale... I think?) Very good. We got the garlic bread and it was very tasty. We ordered a couple of pizzas and they were also very good and came out in a timely manner. I've seen where some folks dislike the crispy/burnt crust from wood-fired pizza oven, and I know it can be over cooked, but not the case on ours. Overall I was not disappointed. (Maybe due to low expectations?) I will go back! Here are a few things that I would prefer as a customer... 1) More timely greeting, acknowledging that we are there... 2) They sell pizza! ... maybe instead of pre-packaged envelopes of Parmesan and red cracked pepper... get some shakers? 3) Everything is served on paper plates... not the nice paper plates, but the cheap, flimsy stuff that you wouldn't buy for a Jackson Park picnic with bologna sammiches? (Hopefully this is a start up issue) 4) Not a big deal, as I know it's a brewery/restaurant... but, when we initially ordered drinks and appetizer, a card was asked for to swipe to open a tab... insinuation is that I'm a dine and dash risk? ‍ I get it... some folks would possibly do that... but, just mildly off-putting. Overall, I love having another craft brew option nearby that serves food... but, there are certainly improvements that need to be made for it to be a go-to place for me... it's on the radar, but, not... let's go to Good News Brewery status.
