Very nice place to take a walk, bike ride, or run on a dirt path along the Delaware River. The…read morepath is kept clean & free of debris. Very easy to park as there are multiple parking lots along the trail. The trail offers glimpses of the river & has a lot of beautiful wildflowers & different kinds of tree's along the trail. Very few port-a-johns & the one's we encountered were not clean. Other than that, it's an enjoyable trail.

If it seems like you've read this one before it's because maybe you have. On Yelp my best guess is…read morethat there's three or maybe even four different listings for Delaware Canal State Park. Why so many you might ask? Well it's because of the park's sheer size. DCSP is a sixty mile long towpath that runs from Easton down to Bristol. That's obviously a hell of a distance and there are tons of access points along the way which is why there are so many listings. If you're using the towpath in New Hope that's one listing and if you're using it in Easton that's a different listing due to the large amount of mileage in between. What makes this park so special? DCSP is the only remaining towpath that is original in it's appearance, size and distance to when it was constructed in the 18th century. The towpath runs parallel (but not always visible) to the Delaware River. It's also one of the few parks if not the only park in the commonwealth's system that runs by or thru several other state parks. The ending terminus in Bristol is somewhat close to Neshaminy, it runs right thru Washington Crossing while being fairly close to Ralph Stover and Lake Nockamixon. This also says nothing about the two or three county parks which DCSP runs by. As if this weren't enough, right across the Delaware is the even longer D&R Canal Trail which parallels the river on the NJ side. There are a few bridges were you can cross from one side to the other but they're spread out. The main activities are hiking and biking but there are obviously endless amounts of possibilities for fishing, boating and canoeing. No hunting except for limited archery deer hunting. Too many houses either way to close to the towpath or literally on the towpath for anyone to be getting their Ted Nugent on. We usually hit the trail primarily at the Durham Aqueduct parking area as that's super easy where 611 meets up with 212 or every so often we go down to the Washington Crossing area to dork it up 18th century style by visiting some of the surroundings in that area. Kudos big time to PA's Department of Conservation as they do a great job keeping a whole lot of trail looking really good. No matter where you choose to join up with the towpath there's no bad place and you'll understand why especially on weekends this thing gets so damn crowded. #No-Brainer Visit

If you don't mind the terrain - which can be a bit unstable - then this is a hike you'll enjoy!…read more The river runs right next to it. I parked at the "Devils" parking entrance. There's a tiny bridge as well as a very iffy hike alongside. I had my deaf and blind dog along with me so I couldn't do too much as I was afraid he'd fall down the side into the river. I hear that just past this parking area there's a beach? That should be cool. I'm actually on my way back there this morning to check it out. Bring water and bug spray cause I can only imagine the mosquitos, etc., that are there in late Spring and during Summertime. Enjoy!! Happy hiking.

I stayed in the organized group camping area and loved how the sites that we booked allowed for plenty of tents to spread out within your group. We stayed in J, K and L. Last year there were porter potties and this year there was a bathhouse. Sadly there were no showers, the family bathroom was locked all weekend, and maintence getting to the bathroom was not good. Wehad to walk through a field of knee high grass to get there. During peak tick season, this was not ideal. Lastly, quiet hours apparently do not exist this is area of camping. Groups around us were chanting and singing before 5am and had an intense volleyball match at 6am. Boyscotts camped near us and were up late screaming until 12am. There needs to be more ranger presence, this truly altered our experience. The state park itself has great hiking and swimming area but the organized group sites were very mismanaged.

Folks in my Dog Friendly Places NJ Facebook group had similar ideas. Btdubs, Facebook excels at niche groups. They should just do that instead of providing a platform for racist, political disinformation to spread thus changing the course of world history but hey - live and learn right? Anyway, a lot of us were looking for Fido Friendly Fun (see that 120K creative writing degree in action) that had water for warm paws. Someone suggested this spot and confirmed it wasn't water-logged. Truthfully I didn't have terribly high expectations - I figured I knew all the good, local hiking spots but I was wrong! There's good water, some elevation to get your heart pumping, interesting features like bridges and stairs, and lovely wooded trails. If you string them all together including next door Uplands Reserve you can get about 4 miles. That's legit! Random cool thing: I've reverted to childhood and have become obsessed again with RC cars. My IG feed is basically people playing with their cars and trucks in outdoor vignettes shot to look life size. Imagine my absolute glee when one of the trails led to a water entrance where two people were playing with their RC pickup trucks. We live in a simulation. Rundown: -lot parking across the street from the park - felt safe -plenty of benches and seating along the paths - I love this -enough people around so it's not spooky but if you want solitude you'll feel fulfilled -many accessible water entrances - dip your toes in! -clean! only saw one errant dog poop bag -rooty and rocky in spots but that's NJ for you. Watch your step.

My first review by campfire light…read more I came along with my boy scout son for a weekend at Tinicum Park in Erwinna, Pennsylvania, just across the Delaware River from Frenchtown, New Jersey. It is not a big park, but has a simple camp facility in an Ash grove a few hundred yards from the water. I remember campout food as being oddly delicious, even with the extra grit and rustic outdoor kitchen, but these days with lightweight stoves and propane flex lines, the campfire is just for night stories. Cooking is much easier, if somewhat less rewarding. Still, I don't think I'll ever get accustomed to deep fried Oreos. The Chicken Tenders and Penne with Ragu were decent after a hike into Frenchtown, and several hours of scout skill training, football, and boys being boys. I even found about 90 minutes to break away and return for R & R at the National Hotel and The Bridge Café while the boys were off on another adventure. Those reviews to follow. Tinicum may not be the first place you think of when considering an upriver jaunt, but if you are into a night or two of roughing it (with a run to Ftown for cocktail and lunch overlooking the river) than it might be the perfect spot to make magic happen.
