I'm a patient in the oncology department, the entire staff including admin are the best!!!! Everyone in that department really loves their job, and it carries over to the care of the patients. One is too high of a score. Never had a bad experience at DKH ED until recently. I always took the time to write them a good review because they earned it. So I need to write a one star review because they earned it! Not going to bore you with the details, but my 71 year Husband was brought in by ambulance, he was in ED for only 3 hours which was a record time. Quick in and out. Nurse told him he was good to go home and gave him his discharge papers and then they walked out. He came in to ED unable to walk, he was still unable to walk when they released him. Diagnosed with cellulitis and UTI. They never offered him a wheelchair to get back to the car. I had to ask and was told they are busy. Since he could not walk, when he got home he had to crawl on a brick walkway and up 3 steps to get into the house. He was exhausted once inside he had to rest on the floor for 15 minutes, finally he crawled to the dining room where he just flopped over and said he could not go another inch. The 2 infections where wiping him out. I covered him with a blanket, and 1 hour later he was able to muster the strength to crawl the rest of the way to the couch. We found out 2 days later when I spoke to the PCP on Call because he was not getting better, that the ED doctor did not prescribe the correct antibiotic for his UTI. We specifically asked the ED doctor if what he prescribed was for both UTI and Cellulitis and he said YES!. Also, when we went for follow up with his PCP 5 days later, they said he should have had bloodwork in the ED because of his diagnosis, but the ED doctor never ordered a blood test. Our doctor did not believe us, but when he looked at his chart they could see for themselves NO bloodwork was ordered. I am extremely saddened that DKH has gone downhill. I never gave it a second thought when we had to go there, I knew I would be in good hands, but now I am hesitant. Especially since 3 DKH employees, who are friends, told us in confidence, they would NEVER use DKH, ED or hospital services itself. They said what we experienced is now the norm, they lamented the fact DKH is not what it used to be. It is not because they have all bad employees, it is because they have bad management that cares more about the bottom line. That is not encouraging at all. DKH is only 5 miles from us, but we will be using Windham Hospital from now on. We were recommended by 4 people including our pharmacist who uses them personally, they said it is a night and day experience. I just would like the correct medication, and to be taken seriously. It is six days later and we are going to Windham ED because my Husband is still unable to walk and is weak and unable to eat. He is generally not frail at all, 3 days before this happened he was out chain sawing and splitting wood with his Buddy for a month a few hours a day. Hopefully UCONN will buy DKH out and we will be able to get decent healthcare in the Northeast corner again; we deserve it. Very disheartening to say the least. Please DKH powers that be; do better. Friday 3/5/21 I presented to the Day Kimball Hospital ER with a concerning problem. From the moment I stepped into the ER, I was greeted by security of course for Covid protocol temperature check, really nice person. I was then directed to the registration desk greeted by another very pleasant professional staffer who took my notes and brought me directly to a room in the ER. I had two RN's Terry (hoping I spelled your name right) and Valerie. I was quickly assessed and almost immediately Dr. Le presented to my room. He was very calming and identified my problem right away and directed treatment of my problem. Dr. Le was very pleasant and I was able to have my fears confirmed as valid in a calming soothing manner, he made direct eye contact. I stayed in the ER approximately 3 hours and I can honestly say I was looking in on often while receiving treatment. Terry and Valerie were very professional and actually nice to talk to! I left the ER not only feeling better health wise, but feeling like I had received over the top healthcare!! I would not hesitate to go back to the ER at Day Kimball Hospital. read more

Please stay away from this place! I had to sign myself out after 4 days of Pain and agony on a NG pump waiting for a promised colonoscopy which never happened! I have no gall bladder so they were pumping bile for 4 days. No compassion here! 1 Nurse was abusive ! Doctors were rude and nasty! They are good at filling u up with IV solution , morphine and chemicals to make you feel worse! Ask to see a doctor- forget it! First night there - they wanted me to wear the compression boots because I was not moving around enough- they wanted to use blood thinners right away but I refused! Ended up losing bladder control at night- when I left the hospital I couldn't even talk from the pain from the NG tube and swollen sinuses and throat and the colon and stomach so sore from pumping. No stars for this place- it used to be ok but has seriously gone downhill! read more

If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would. Staff here are rude, nasty, and have no compassion. My brother was in icu. One nurse stated in front of him he ruined himself and said he wasn't going to make it. Care was awful. Things stolen from my brother. My brother died here, case manager was nasty. Do not go here!! read more

No communication unless you corner someone. If you need a chair good luck, took over an hour and a quarter to get one. After nurses saw me sitting on the sink finally got one. Some bedside manners were horrible read more

I can't speak for the whole place but very friendly and helpful lab staff, which I think is important.

The wound clinic is excellent . The ACU IV team is also outstanding . The GI clinic is junk. I would close the rest of this hell hole and leave the 2 good departments In hospital doctors were terrible , with 1 exception. He was a good person as well as a good doctor .The rest were inadequate at best . Perhaps incompetent. Several fine nurses , some were not to say the least. On the whole , closing it might save several lives . read more

This is a horrible place. My granddaughter who suffers from bipolar disorder was recently in the ER and sat in a room alone for more than 8 hours. She was not seen by any of the staff, she was not given food or water, she was not able to go to the bathroom. The nursing staff excuse was that she was sleeping and they wouldn't wake her. They later changed their story to say my granddaughter wouldn't talk to them and assumed she knew she could come out of the room to get them. My granddaughter is 11 how would she know that if they never spoke to her. They were also rude to her mother when she came to pick her up, making them wait another 2 hours to be discharged telling them we will get her stuff when we are ready. The doctors threatened them saying next time she comes in they will make sure she stays more than 7 hours. So much for "caregivers" and reinforces by opinion that mental illness is not taken seriously even in a hospital environment. read more
