However, if you have an emergency DON'T GO THERE because my sister in law DID NOT get the best care when she was pregnant with her first child!! There are no doctors in Intensive Care. I spent two days in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Day Kimball Hospital. On the first day, a doctor came in and told me he is not a cardiologist so he couldn't tell me much. He told me I needed to talk to a cardiologist. On the second day, a different doctor came in and told me this is not his specialty so he really didn't know much about my condition. He told me I needed to talk to a cardiologist. Nurses and PAs handled all the care, testing, and reviewed all the test results. A PA from the cardiology department told me all my test results were normal and I should be discharged with a few follow-up items/appointments. The nurse told me he needed to get hospital approval for my discharge and he would try to get it done soon. After three hours I asked him what was taking so long. He said the doctors he talked to didn't know anything about me or my condition so they would not authorize my discharge. After another hour, I asked him again. He told me he was still trying. I told him I wanted to leave, with or without a discharge. He told me if I left without a discharge it would be "against medical advice" and my insurance would not pay for it. I asked him what medical advice required me to stay. He only said he was trying to find a doctor to approve my release. That is not medical advice. It is a procedural problem with the hospital. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Day Kimball Hospital does not have any cardiologists, or any doctors at all. After a few more hours, the nurse found a doctor. The doctor was not very pleasant. I felt like they were trying to make me stay (and pay for) another night in Intensive Care even though they had no medical reason to keep me there. read more

Since Day Kimball Hospital is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Fail New Haven, it has constructed a barricade against patients needing refills of prescriptions, among other things. I've been a regular outpatient there for the last 23 years, My semiannual visits used to result in adequate prescription refills between visits. I even had the email address of my provider, who has since retired, so that in the event my next visit was postponed I was able to easily obtain a refill. While I haven't had the luxury of a direct email address since her retirement, I used to be able to call in a refill request when necessary. This used to be an infrequent occurrence, but policy changes, thanks to Fail New Haven, have frequently left me short of medication before my next visit. This resulted in frequent calls into the department for refills until my next visit. This was an inconvenience and sometimes a hassle, but in the end I was still able to have my needs met. Not long ago, however, the option of calling in refill requests was eliminated. My pharmacist can still make requests, but they are ignored. Their telerobotic phone system instructs me to make the request through the patient portal online, but oh yes, they have to set up the portal! There is no option for the patient to do it! So if they don't set up the portal for you (which they have not, in my case), the patient is left with no options. So no matter how critical it is for the patient to have medications, it clearly means nothing to Day Kimball Hospital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fail New Haven. I called the hospital last night with the intention of leaving a voicemail informing them that I was trashing them on every media platform, watchdog group, and government agency that would lend me an ear and that I would continue to do so until they fixed themselves. I did, however, speak to person and shared my dilemma. I gave her whatever she needed in terms of information, and she assured me that I would receive a call today. The call never came, and my prescriptions were not called in. I immediately called the hospital. This time I got the treatment I am so used to receiving from the medical establishment: We can't do anything for you, you have to come in, yada, yada, yada. Well I have an appointment on December 23 but have run out of medications. I just need some refills called in to hold me over until that time. Why is this such a problem??? Because the only purpose served by the medical establishment is blocking a patient's access to medicine. And no where is this more true than with the arrogant, uncaring Fail New Haven Hospital and all of its divisions. read more

It is nearly impossible to use their phone system. I have spent hours over the years just trying to get the answers to simple questions. The online phone numbers via google are inaccurate most of the time. I think some lines just run and ring but it sounds like you are on hold so you just sit there. Once you get the right number, they keep you on hold forever. Get your systems together, DKH! read more

What a crappy old hospital with some rude LAZYYYY staff who do not give one single fuq. Left my family member laying in sht for 15 min after asking several times for help. Super rude nurses and Karen's for aides. They don't even provide so much as chapstick and act like you're out of line for asking such a demand for someone who is just coming out of icu. Awful experience son was injured at school indoor track practice. He felt a pop and had pain on lower right abdominal area went straight to the hospital, arrived 3:45 pm waited more than six hours in the emergency room. Was not even seen by the doctor. Nurses took blood, gave an IV with pain medication and took a CAT scan. At 10:30pm with no results no discussion with doctor and being told for hours that the doctors on their way and you're next, left hospital without being visited/seen by doctor. read more

I was very nervous to deliver my son here. The hospital does not have a great rep so much so that I originally planned on having my son at backus hospital. After seeing the maternity ward at backus we knew we needed to find another hospital. Knowing many people who have given birth at day kimball and had a great experience we decided to switch. Drs were great, nurses fantastic. Every apt the drs took time to answer any questions I had. My delivery went smoothly and the staff took such good care of us during our stay. Maternity rooms are all updated and beautiful. Spacious, couch for babies daddy, refrigerator, tv. Cafeteria food wasn't good but that's to be expected at any hospital. My biggest complaint is their billing process. It is absolutely obnoxious. I am told at every appointment that I have a balance due, but didn't even receive the bill in the mail yet. I scheduled a physical with my primary care dr and got a call that I wouldn't be able to be seen by the dr until I paid my hospital bill. Absolutely ridiculous. I just gave birth a couple weeks ago, the bill wasn't even due yet and I'm not allowed to be seen unless I pay it? I find this tactic of getting patients to pay their bills gross and obnoxious. read more

They have changed some things so I was told and they loved my corny jokes. Made one nurse laugh she had to contain herself to get the blood out my arm. Bizarre experience at the ER. Besides taking the kiddos for medical attention, I, myself, have not been to an ER in a long time. I moved In this area not too long ago and needed some medical attention. The EMT's on the ambulance ride were so nice and professional. Once I got to the ER I felt like I was a burden and wanted to walk out after 2 1/2 hours of waiting.... pretty much to get discharged. Vital machines weren't working at all... so My vitals were never checked. I was also given some awful advice from the Doctor. (example.... don't come here again... I truly thought this was a joke, seeing as why would I want to be there in the first place?) understaffed.... maybe, still doesn't give anyone a right to make a patient feel like they're health isn't important. It's a hospital... so maybe some of these people are in the wrong profession. Seeing I have a lot of family that works in the medical field, I will absolutely take the drive back to RI to go any of their hospitals. This was a super awkward experience for me. read more

I live in the area and I have heard that this is a place to avoid and what not. I must be honest. I recently broke my leg and was brought to Day Kimball. I stayed for surgery on the broken leg and was blown away by the amazing staff and surgical team that I dealt with. Not only was the surgery a success but I was treated with dignity and kindness my whole time in. I would recommend using the hospital to anyone in the area. read more

Michael Legeyt is an orthopedic surgeon at Day Kimball Orthopedic office located at day Kimball Hospital. He was very rude to me and prior to seeing him I went and seen an orthopedic walk-in clinic that told me I would need surgery and they gave me a referral to be seen by any orthopedic surgeon that would take my health insurance. I explained this to Dr Michael Legeyt as he said well if they think you need surgery then go see them. He was very judgmental because I was on methadone and I was a smoker as well. I have never had any doctor talk to me in that manner all because another place had a different opinion than the one he had given me. I even offered to show him the x-rays that they had taken but he wasn't interested in them even though they said that my phone was over 200% displaced and there was a Shard of bone possibly resting on my nerve. I also called them a couple weeks later to fill out a form for Connecticut paid leave and they refuse to even look at the paperwork when all they had to do was simply answer a couple questions so that I could be getting money for being out of work. Dr Michael Legeyt said that I would be seeing the walk-in clinic that I had gone to prior to him which wasn't true because they were the ones that gave me the referral to come to another surgeon. So he also lied about my continuing care. read more

We arrived here 2 1/2 hours ago. One Doctor with 19 ER rooms and 10 people have yet to be seen. Someone just left who was here for six hours and gave up. Gorgeous facility with severe understaffing. I was told it would be hours before I was seen. They are looking to see if a second Dr can come in. Not recommended. read more
