Also wasn't sure of the location - the main museums are at the other end of Gran Via - a half hour walk. However once I got over the decor and color scheme - dark greens, beige and salmon colors - the furnishings and fixtures are actually good quality and modern. Standard rooms however are very small. Only one chair. Bed is comfortable with crisp cotton bedding and shower excellent but for two people the space is a bit cramped. We had a second floor room with a small balcony facing the front (only the second floor floor rooms have balconies) and with the French doors there's a bit more light making the room seem more cheerful. Fridge, safe, electric tea kettle are good to have as well. Breakfast is good, they change the pastry types once in a while. It's not automatically included in the room rate but cheaper if you include it when booking. The area has lots of parks and green spaces. Sabatini gardens right across the street. Walking distance to a couple of metro stations. Carrefour Express store in the next block. Nice local restaurant Loredo around the corner. It is a half hour walk to the main museums near the other end of Gran Via - Prado, Thyssen, Sophia, as well as the train station Atocha - so might not be the most convenient depending on what you plan to do in Madrid. However metro is easy and cheap to take so getting around is not a problem as long as you are near a metro station. We've used all three nearby metro stations - plaza Espana is the closest, Principe Pio is second (connected to a huge shopping mall), and Opera near the theater a bit further has some more nice restaurants.

Excellent beds, clean rooms in good location. The shower was…read morea little tricky to open and close but good water pressure. I would suggest they invest in non slip shower mats. I found the tub to be slippery. I found the towel warmer useful to dry my hand washed clothes. The staff was helpful. I recommend the hotel.

As of now 10/18/2025, construction is on going and the noise is unbearable at the 12th floor. Before booking your stay, , please inquire about the on going remodeling and Avoid it for now until they are done. We always stay here at Melia and is our favorite hotel due to its location but this time no one informed our agent and they did not let us know about the construction activities when they booked our rooms. We were awaken with jack hammering noises, ear deafening and wall vibrations etc. Many thanks to carameltrail.com handling our reservation. They were able to move us to the other Melia Hotel to save the vacation / holiday trip. Thanks as well for the years of private tours and booking our hotel accommodations. Will edit this post when all is back to normal.

We loved the cold cucumber water and candy snacks in the afternoon after we had a busy morning and went back to our room to freshen up. A nice touch, cool detail. Staff was friendly, perfect English to accommodate our struggle Spanish. They sent us chocolate covered strawberries, currants and champagne as a honeymoon gift to our room, very sweetums. The location being next to the Ventura Rodriguez metro stop is incredible. We did not pay for the breakfast since we were looking to try different breakfasts around the city. Indoor pool is a cool amenity but we did not utilize it this trip.

We got a suite, which is one bedroom, one bathroom with kitchenette and sofabed in the living room. Our suite was non-smoking, but someone in the hallway had obviously smoked, and we could smell cigarettes pretty much throughout the hotel. The suite was fine but hardly luxurious. The bathroom was large, and the shower had good water pressure. The beds were comfortable. There were two televisions, but the one in the bedroom did not work, and the maid they sent up to help us was unable to make it work, even for local channels (and there was no plug for Chromecast). The pillows were pretty thin, and the towels were scratchy. Being March and rainy, the rooftop lounge was closed, but I can see how that would be a lovely place to watch the sunset in the evening. We did not have breakfast in their buffet, but in the afternoon, the breakfast room is open for free coffee and snacks. There's a Carrefour Express a block down the hill, and we went there to get fresh orange juice, fruit and yogurt to start our day instead. Would I return? Maybe. The location was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But I did not like the lingering smell of cigarette smoke, and the room was barely ranked as mid-range in decor.

I would go to the grocery store and bring dinner back with me. The view from the rooftop terrace was amazing. It was not yet open so I'd bring up a glass of wine and a sandwich. During check in, we were given a complimentary upgrade. I was expecting a slightly bigger room or bathroom and did not expect the suite-like room (we were in 406)! It was such a wonderful surprise walking in to a luxurious room after a one-month long backpacking trip across Europe. We have had mixed experiences in hotels across Europe and this is by far the best we've stayed at. From the complimentary water, handwritten note, and even the personalized welcome message on the TV! I also loved how the bathroom was supplied with actual toiletries! The best part is the enormous bed and great ventilation in the room and restroom. We have 1 more night before we finally return home and I am actually sad because it's been an amazing experience at this hotel so far. Oh, it's also very close to train stations and eateries. Approximately 15-20+ mins. Will definitely stay here again if we return to Madrid! Thank you to the staff who have made our final European destination an amazing experience.
