Hot 8 yoga is located in Santa Monica on second street and it just so happens that this is the flagship location. I had plenty of water and homemade juiced drink a few about an hour and a half or so before class. There is a Nektar cafe on the same street, I knew where I was going for breakfast. Nevertheless, I arrived around 7:25am even though class did not begin until 7:45am--the LA marathon was also happening so I didn't want the chance of being late. I also managed to find street parking, yay me lol. I walked in the studio and there was someone there to sign me in. I made my way to the ladies restroom which is where the lockers were located. I had my water bottle and yoga mat in hand. The room was already pretty warm and there were a few people already inside the yoga barre class. There were only women in the class perhaps the barre had a lot to do with it. I found a spot close to the front of room. I noticed everyone had a ball and some weights; I made sure I grabbed the needed equipment. The instructor Camai came into the room as I was quickly stepping out to get a wet eucalyptus towel and introduced herself. She noticed it was my first time in her yoga barre class and made sure I had the essentials together before class. Yoga barre helps activate small muscle groups, developing long and lean muscles, and a high energy class. Shortly thereafter class began; with upbeat music in the background, we were toning our bodies. After yoga barre with Camai, I took another class almost immediately thereafter (15 minute gap in between). The title of the next class was Power, which is an intermediate vinyasa-style class. There were inversions, twist, arm balancing, and advanced postures--wow say that three times fast. Rebekah was the instructor and very nice; this class was pretty full. Although I heard it gets even more packed but perhaps the LA marathon had something to do with it. This class also was accompanied by music! We needed some essential equipment including two blocks and a strap. Keep in mind that this class is 90 minutes long and if you need to leave early make sure to square it away before class with instructors. Sweat dripping down my body and onto my mat towel with every pose all while making sure I was connecting movement with every breath I took. Sipping very little water throughout the classes (I had to refill my water bottle for the second class). The stretching definitely strengthens the whole body. The heat does generate your heart rate to rise and boosting ones metabolism. Depending on a few things including the weights chosen you can lose roughly 620 calories and up in a 60 minute class (more the 90 minute classes). There are a few showers with good quality shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. I had an amazing workout here and everyone was super friendly and kind. This location might be a bit smaller then the other locations Ive visited, but it still gets the job done. Heat: 95-105 degrees "Warrior 2 pose; your right hand is in the past and your left hand is in the future. Gaze into the future, have the courage to be here in the present!" -unknown

Nice studio with amazing staff! They're all so friendly and helpful. Hot yoga isn't always for me, but when I'm in the mood I go to Hot 8.

Amazing teachers but a little too hot for me. Wish they did some non-hot classes. Very friendly and like a family.

Wear leggings because sometimes you'll be on your knees. It gets hot in there, and I always appreciate it when they turn the fan on. I took the free foundations class at Pure Barre in Brentwood and was immediately hooked, so I signed up for the unlimited membership for $199/month and I told myself I'd go at least 5 days a week to make it worthwhile, and so far I've been able to keep that promise to myself! Pure Barre has four different class formats, Classic for low impact & high intensity barre, Empower for cardio-centric strength training, Define for weight-based strength training, and Align for flexibility and balance. I'd say they're all difficult yet doable, but Align is the easiest of the four. The workouts often blur the line between strength training and stretching in the best way. My two favorite instructors so far are Claudia and Keani, but honestly they're all great, well trained, and going to give you a killer workout. It is so impressive how they lead the workouts, doing the exercises with you to show you the proper form while also talking you through it, and observing the class enough to let you know if you need to make any adjustments to your form to avoid potential injuries. The classes are between 45-50 minutes, but you'll need to allot additional time to get your equipment before class and wipe it down and put it away at the end, as well as changing out into your regular clothes. If you're participating in the challenges, you'll also need a few minutes after class to get your stars and stamps. Don't be late because they won't let you come into the class if you arrive more than five minutes past the start time. I love when they do themed workout days, such as Beyoncé! You can have fun with it and dress up for the class, and they play music that aligns with the theme. For the Brentwood location, it's slightly confusing to find the first time because of the construction, but it's worth it, and after that you'll always know where you're going. Park in their free underground structure (good news, they usually have a security guard) via the alley in the back, then take the stairs up from the garage, make a right, then take those stairs to the top floor, turn right again, and you'll see the sign pointing to Pure Barre. You'll shake, and they push you harder than you can push yourself, but since it's just for short amounts of time you can do it! After just a few weeks, I definitely noticed more definition and strengths, especially in my glutes and abs.

Lindsay's kind and encouraging teaching style made these classes a great barre experience.

But if you want a thoughtful,…read morebreath-centered practice that helps you slow down, feel your body, and cultivate steadiness, this class is your go-to. The Space: This studio is a second-floor loft with tall windows and skylights overhead, so natural light pours in. The room is spacious, uncluttered, and simply arranged, which amplifies the quiet, reflective tone of the class. The Class: We began with a collective Om and alternate-nostril breathing, then moved into a steady sequence of Sanskrit-cued postures rather than a flowing practice. (I did have to peek at others for a few poses!) Because there was no music, every breath, footstep, and verbal cue became part of the atmosphere. At first, I felt more self-aware, but that actually drew me deeper into my breath. I ended up finding it rather powerful and reflective. The Teacher: Jerome was warm and attentive, especially with first-timers. He introduced himself, encouraged me to place my mat wherever I felt comfortable, and offered hands-on adjustments that invited the body to relax deeper rather than push harder. Vibe: His use of Sanskrit cueing, paired with steady breathwork (beginning with a collective Om and alternate-nostril breathing), created a classical, contemplative tone. This was not a flow; it was a deliberate exploration of posture and breath. Community: The overall atmosphere felt community-oriented. People were chatting with one another as they gathered up their belongings after class, which made the space feel friendly and welcoming. Practical Notes: I also loved that this is a drop-in studio. There's no advance sign-up needed, just show up with your mat. Parking is free right outside. It's a DONATION-BASED class. Welcome to all! Quick Note: The class isn't heated, but with so much sunlight streaming in, a gentle natural warmth builds throughout the practice.
