I seriously love Hot Heads. Any time I come in, I get a friendly greeting and I'm promptly put in the salon chair. Maddie did my hair while I was in grad school and she always helped me look my best! I'd send her a picture of my ideas and she'd run with it and make it just right for me. Everyone is so friendly and I never feel awkward, even if I'm in the chair for 2-3 hours! I took my two year old daughter in for her first hair cut. i told the woman i didn't want straight across bangs, i wanted side bangs and a face frame. She gave my daughter exactly what i didn't want and it looks absolutely horrible. it looks like a bowl cut in the front when all of her hair is down. the lady didn't even feather her bangs. i should be gushing over my baby's first haircut, but instead i've been crying over her hair for the last hour. don't take your babies here. read more

I love going to Hot Heads to get my eyebrows waxed! The price is fair and they always do a good job. Plus I love that I am able to walk in, rather than making an appointment since I never know when I will get the urge to go here! The girl who did my hair was very nice but it turned out nothing like the picture I brought in. I wanted it a little lighter with dimension. She bleached my whole head and let me leave with yellow blonde hair that was red in some spots! Not to mention my hair is melting off from the damage for her service. read more

1. They are horribly expensive. Even with the BSU discount, you're still going to pay over $200 for a cut, color, and style. Especially if it's trendy. 2. My stylist was not only sloppy flinging dye all over my face and their floor, but also left a huge spot of dye on the back of my shirt. When I asked them about it later, they just said, "oops" and sent me a 10% coupon in the mail. 3. I expected the color to wash out some over the course of the next 3-4 days with shampooing. However, it continued for over a month. The first week, the dye stained my tub, shower curtain, hands, and feet. read more

I'm not a regular at this salon, but I made an appointment on the recommendations of several people who had been going for years. The salon has a stellar reputation and is constantly winning awards in the area. That being said I could not be more displeased with the cut and service and I received there. I had been growing out my hair for the last couple of years specifically to donate. I was told that this salon was a Locks for Love donation site, and even though that was not the organization I was donating to I still assumed that this meant they would be careful and sensitive to the process of cutting off years worth of hair growth for donation. I was wrong. When I called and set up the appointment the day before I had specifically let them know that I was doing a hair donation and the person on the phone said they would make a note of it. When I arrived at the salon at my appointed time I was informed that they had put me down at having an appointment two hours earlier, but they could squeeze me in now. When we walked back to the stylist's hair station she asked me if I was just in for a trim. I reminded her that I was donating my hair, which should have been noted in the appointment reservation. She got out a tape measure and measured off 8 inches of hair. At this point the friend I had brought with me said that I could easily take off 12in of hair and still have hair below my shoulders. I realize at this point I should have put my foot down and stuck with the original plan. Then I might have at least had enough hair to correct the problems that followed. The stylist banded off a foot of hair and cut it without even giving me the chance to see where the length would fall after cutting 50% more hair than I had planned. She had asked how I wanted my hair cut and I told her just a few long layers, as I usually like to wear my hair up in a pony tail and I don't like to have to heat style it every day. I specifically stated that I don't really do anything trendy and that my hair is very thick and wavy so I don't ever need to do anything to add volume. She chatted with my friend about hair straighteners and remodels to the salon while she was cutting my hair, despite my attempts to draw her attention back to me, and wound up giving me a bunch of uneven/choppy layers around my face and the crown of my head. The longest length of my hair is just laying past my shoulders, which would be workable if not for the fact that she turned the bottom layer into some feathered "Farrah" style mess that will not lay nicely no matter what I try. It honestly looks as if I have two different cuts going on, neither of them attractive. When she finished cutting my hair she wasn't going to blow-dry it. In my experience when a stylist doesn't want to blow-dry your hair after a cut it is because it looks bad. I asked her to dry it so I could see and she asked me how I usually styled it. I figured since she was the one who cut this "style" into my hair she would at least have some insight into how it as supposed to look. She spent about 15-20 minutes with a round brush (which I told her I don't use and she even said that most people couldn't use them by themselves) and shaped it into basically a helmet shape. At this point she and my friend were both telling me how nice the cut looked and I was already getting upset and embarrassed about what had happened. I paid for the cut and went home to shampoo it and see if I could work it into something I liked. After 3 weeks I can say this is the worst haircut I have ever received. It has aged my appearance significantly. If it were just a matter of the length being a little shorter I wouldn't be so upset, my hair grows faster than average and growing out length isn't that big of an issue. The big issues are the choppy and uneven layers and the "feathered" look in the back. Even if I can heat-style the front into submission, the back looks like I am growing out a mullet. If I could style my hair a little differently than normal for a few months until it grew out a little I would be fine, but there is no way to style this cut to look nice. I don't think she actually had an idea of what the cut was going to look like when she was done, she just kept hacking away at it (the whole while keeping me turned from the mirrors so I couldn't see what was going on). I emailed the salon the week after this happened, I wanted to give myself a few days to adjust to the cut and see if I could work with it. Though I did receive an apology the closest I got to a refund was to be told that they added a credit to my account so that the next time I came in I wouldn't have to pay. I don't intend to go back to this salon and I am upset about paying so much for a cut that looks like I am growing another cut out. I replied to them stating as much and have yet to hear back. I'm happy that so many people seem to have a good experience here, but I will be advising anyone who asks me to stay away. read more

I just wanted to write a review on how wonderful Hot Heads Hair Design is. I have been going to this salon since I was about 20. I am currently 44 so that should speak volumes. I would consider myself a hard customer for them. The reason I say this is twofold. The first is my schedule is constantly changing and I am never able to keep an appointment that I have already scheduled. Ninety percent of the time, when they call me to confirm my appointment (which I love) I am not able to keep it and have to call back to reschedule. When the time comes and it is good for me to come, I just give them a call and they always can accommodate me. The second reason is that I never know what I want done to my hair and it is never the same thing twice. Normally I just say " I would like a cut and color and I am not sure what I want"... I then leave it up to my hairdresser and say what ever color she thinks. To this day, I have never been dissatisfied with my cut, color or treatment! Every stylist there does an awesome job. I would let every one of them work on my hair. I moved to Fort Wayne four years ago. I have been to several salons here but have to say I have never found one I like and feel as comfortable as I do Hot Heads. So to this day, I drive over 60 miles every time I need my hair done just to come to Hot Heads. I do not planning on changing salons any time soon and recommend it to everyone I know!
