My husband and I Love, Love, Love Hot Paws!!! They have taken care of our Whoodle Berkeley & Poodle Otis for over 10 years! They have both passed in the past two years. Both were always happy going in and going out! We trusted Octavio and staff with Daycare, Boarding and Grooming. They are the absolute best!!! Now we have two new standard Poodles Dillweed and Nutmeg and they absolutely love it there! They go to daycare a couple of days a week, grooming when needed and boarding. this is an addendum to my previous review to which Octavio responded. while he is correct, we did have an issue with the length of hair that was due to communication. the second issue was what I felt was an overcharge. Both issues could have been addressed with a better outcome. as soon as questions were asked Octavio became defensive and unprofessional - just using the word "ma'am" does not make it palatable when tone and timbre communicate something else. Having had a career in a public facing position for 30+ years, it seems to me Octavio as owner should consider using a different- more even tempered- manager for the public. read more

New to the area, I was referred to this place by a couple friends. I called to make an appointment for my Golden Retriever and my experience with a simpler inquiry wasn't very pleasant. Granted it was Friday afternoon and I am sure the person I was speaking with might have had a long day but customer service is your bread and butter. We started taking our puppy Zoe to day care to socialize her as soon as it was safe to do so. At first we took her to day care once or twice a week, then recently boarded her there while we were away for 5 days. Our little bear was apprehensive perhaps the first 2 drop-offs, but since then she is uniformly ecstatic to visit her dog- and staff-friends at Hot Paws. I appreciate the process the staff uses to assess the dogs' individual needs and suitability to the environment. They updated us and how she was doing whenever we picked her up (provided they weren't very busy) and explained how they planned to integrate her into the big dog group when she grew to that size. While we were away, they sent us regular "report cards," requesting feedback about how to encourage her to eat and responding immediately to our reply. I feel the staff communicates very well with us. While at Hot Paws, Zoe has had a few nips and she did pick up a bit of conjunctivitis. She's a pup building her immune system just like a kid in school, so a bit of pink eye is to be expected. As for the nips, she's a dog learning how to play with other dogs. We haven't noted any problems with her pads - she's a runner/swimmer and not a digger. Any injury we've found on her has been minor and in the expected realm of dog socialization behaviors. I feel Hot Paws has been a great experience for Zoe. She always comes home happy and content after a visit. And she uniformly socializes well with people and other dogs, which is an accomplishment given she comes from a busy home and doesn't always have company. If you are aiming to make your pup into a good citizen, I highly recommend visits to Hot Paws as a compliment to organized training for any young dog. read more

We love Hot Paws but more important is that our dogs LOVE Hot Paws. We use them for grooming and daycare regularly and will never go anywhere else. Our younger dog goes to daycare three days a week and basically knocks the door down trying to get in each time. She is so excited to see everyone so I know she is treated well and is happy when she is there which is our number one priority. Grooming services are always just what we ask for and they take special care with our old dog who has arthritis. The team at Hot Paws is amazing and you can tell they love dogs. My dog supposedly suffered a "mild seizure" while being groomed but I didn't get notified (by the front desk staff no less) until I picked her up! She nearly collapsed senseless getting in and out the car and she loves car rides. Upon further examination by a veterinarian because she was listless, and averted food, it was discovered her neck was extremely swollen. Coincidence or tight noose? I love this place! There are genuine, knowledgeable people who work at Hot Paws that actually understands animal behavior. My dog has been here numerous times and he loves it. I used to work at a pet facility so I'm VERY particular where I send my fur baby and honestly Hot Paws has done so well for me. Anytime I've had any issues (which rarely happens) they were thoroughly and professionally resolved. For example: My dog will sometimes come home with raw/ irritated paws. First, if you sign up correctly, they explain that this may happen due to the turf and your dog not having tough enough paw pads or having a history with paw issues. I knew it was a possibility coming into this. Anywhoo, not only did they mend to his every need (i.e. playtime with extra rest time) when taking care of him, but explained to me what I can do to help with the healing process and to better protect his paw pads in the future so he can build a tolerance to the turf. Honestly, this place is great and the staff is awesome! You know you're going to a great place when you're walking with your dog downtown and you see two staffers come up to your fur baby, calling him by name, and loving on him while he's ecstatic to see them and loving them back. I filled out the entire profile & loaded all the documents which took a bit of time. I wanted to schedule my dog for daycare as I was visiting a friend. Unfortunately they said I had to come on on certain days for an evaluation before I could schedule her which they weren't flexible on doing evaluation outside of the particular evaluation days. So I can't use the day care. If they want business from visitors, which the area has lots, they should figure out a way to evaluate within the customer's time frame. read more

I just took my dog back to Hot Paws after I saw that they had done some renovations. After picking Lilly up from daycare, I noticed she was very wobbly on her back feet and could hardly walk. I called down to see if they had noticed her acting weird but they said she may just be sore. Not long after that, i noticed her paw pads were all cut up. She has two or three flaps of her paw hanging, leaving her feet red and raw. My vet said they had seen 7 or 8 other pups with the same issue coming from Hot Paws. I talked to a manager and the owner but was dismissed and told they weren't doing anything to change their environment even though they were aware of this growing problem. They even implied it was my fault for sending her to Hot Paws since i was aware of the "upgrades". My puppy is too precious to me to ever bring her back there. I have also brought this to the attention of animal control; i hate to think that other dogs are going to have to endure the negligence at Hot Paws because their owners simply aren't aware of the lack of compassion and humanity at this place. read more

Best groomer on the island! Our mini schnauzers need pretty specific cuts, and Hot Paws always does a stellar job. Unfortunately for our first dog, we tried almost every groomer on the island, until someone finally recommended Hot Paws, and we haven't gone anywhere else since. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and dogs love coming here. The owner, Octavio, is by far the best on Amelia Island. Plus, his love and compassion for all animals, is truly a blessing for our community. read more

I love Hot Paws! We have been taking our fur baby since moving to the island 6 years ago. You can tell he is treated well and enjoys being there with the excitement he has in the morning when he knows where he's going and once he arrives. He is always greeted by name both in the office and at the yard. Once we pick him up, he is exhausted from a 1/2 day of playing. The staff really care about the animals too. They not only supervise but they also play with them. You can tell they are well attended to by the way all of the breeds get along. There have been several upgrades to the yard and the latest one is amazing. There is so much for our cherished pets to do with shaded areas and cooling stations when the weather is warm. read more

Boomer has attended Doggie DayCare/Boarding/Grooming services for about two years; he began there as a puppy. The staff is incredible as far as knowing the pets, the families, and the pets' needs. The employees love our (yours and mine), pets as much as they would their own. My husband and I have placed Boomer into other Doggie DayCares whenever we travel; although some are top notch DayCares; none compare to Hot Paws. I was really contemplating on writing a review but I've been going to Hot Paws for about 3 years now and I've had nothing but a great experiences. I recently moved 45 minutes away so me coming out this way is a hike but worth it. That being said today was one of the worst experience I've had. I dropped my dog off for grooming just like any other time. It usually takes 30 -45 minutes no bid deal I'll run errands while I wait. 2 hours had past and I had heard nothing. I call - straight to voicemail. This point I'm like somethings not right. I walk in ask for my pup. The receptionist goes back and forth with another girl. Still no update. At this point I'm assuming they haven't started on him yet because I hear him barking his head off in the back.. The receptionist then tells me I'm sorry but no one put a ticket in for him to be groomed. At this point I'm trying to collect myself because the young girl that checked me in 2 1/2 hours prior legit had one job. I keep my calm because I understand we have our days I totally get it but where I have my problems is. 1. How long has my dog been back there barking his head off. He's a pug which means he already has breathing problems, when was the last time someone checked on him because from what Ive gathered he was unaccounted for and with pugs they get over heated fast. 2. Not a single sympathy came from the girl. I understand it's out of her control and she wasn't the one that checked me in. But the lack of customer service just took me right over the edge. 3. It was a total of 4 hours today on my day off that got wasted. read more

Took my Mini Australian Shepherd there for his summer cut. They were efficient time-wise, very kind to my dog and groomed him exactly as I asked! When I picked him up, he was happy and not at all traumatized by the experience. Also, he was completely done in less than 3 hours. I will get my female Cairn Terrier in there next. Hot Paws in Fernandina Beach, FL did a fantastic job of boarding and caring for my Onslowe and Daisy Belle (Pembroke Corgis) over the weekend. I cannot recommend their services enough. I'm very precious with all of my dogs, and they love to go for grooming, bathing, etc. Recommended. Ask any Vet on the island where your dog is most likely to become sick or injured, it will likely be this place. Volume is too high, staff is untrained, thrown in to start grooming with little to no supervision from volatile and disturbed owner. This place wouldn't get one star rating any other place in the world but options are limited on this tiny island. If you care about your pet, you will not be happy with this place. read more
