Second time staying here and extremely disappointed. Booking: I made a reservation in advance to an event due to the proximity from me. A group rate was provided at a later time. I had one reservation with four rooms. Due to international calling, I emailed in advance to have the rate applied. Yolanda Carbajal Munoz indicated she applied the rate. However, she only applied it to one room and I was charged the full rate for the additional 3 rooms. Front desk: Checking in was unpleasant. They didn't know how to direct us to where our rooms were. They didn't inform us that the elevator was not working. (I had my mom with cancer that cannot climb stairs and my disabled brother). There was a lack of empathy and problem solving skills, and poor customer service. When checking out I asked for a folio of the rooms and identified the error in applying the group discount and the front desk was un resourceful and could not identify a general manager or provide a solution. Rooms: I was in a single executive room and there were dead cockroaches in the bathroom, the toilet wasn't clean and had skid marks, and there were old toilets and showers outside my window, along with workers walking by. read more

Bad customer service. Front desk not helpful. Rooms in main building are run down. Elevator broken and non accommodating to the handicapped.

I had stayed down the street in the past but I had heard good things about this place so I decided to try it. The only complaint with the other hotel was I was upstairs on the second floor without an elevator AND parking was a problem. This hotel did have plenty of parking but after checking in at the front building they sent me to the back building. The back building did not have the same upper scale look of the front building. It was being worked on so they had some missing tiles in the front entryway. The lobby was older and less luxurious looking than the front building and the elevator had signs about watching your footing; which made sense after you see that there was a 2" drop from the floor to the bottom of the elevator. No bar or restaurant in the back building. The second night I went to the front and had a couple of beers at the lobby bar which was very nice. read more

I love staying at Araiza. All front desk staff are wonderful. The bell crew are great especially Roman and Jesse. The security and parking staff are very nice. I love going to LA Fonda Restaurant especially for breakfast. Angel is a very good manager. He is kind, personable, helpful and he always remembers me. When he sees me he knows I like a green juice and coffee. Luz and Juan are so nice and good servers. They know what I like and just smile and bring my juice, my omelet, flour tortillas and salsa. They also remember my wife which is really nice. If Carlos is still here he's awesome too. He set up the catering for my wedding during a tough time for all when Covid virus was bad. I had less than 40 people for my event. Many people know me by name when they see me. I also love Calafia hotel and the Italian restaurant is awesome. They know me there too. Tony was the manager and a lady manager at the restaurant. I feel good and safe staying in the Araiza group of hotels. Always clean with nice staff. The pool is like bath water also. I love it. This hotel used to be our first pick when traveling to Mexicali. The comfort and quality has diminished. I pay for superior rooms, newer remodeled rooms that are accessible on 1st floor for my handicapped father. Toilet backed up and sewer water went everywhere, including down hallway, room next door smelled like sewer, cockroaches were killed/smashed and left on ceiling, and 2 pillowcases were stained. Also, I booked through hotels.com and paid for 3 rooms. When my family checked in to two of the rooms, they were charged again. Staff at hotel saw rooms were paid for and still asked for payment. That is stealing! My family thought I had only reserved the room, didn't know I had paid for them until I told them. They got their money back, no questions asked, and all they got was an "I'm sorry". When I went to talk to the manager, I was told they were not available. Supervisor I talked to was not helpful at all. I do not recommend this place and will not be staying here again. read more

We stayed here last year on the 1st floor and everyone kept starting loud conversations by our front patio doors.There was a wedding reception going on and we could not sleep well. We got better suite for next day and all those wedding guests were still there filling up the pool area. I've stayed here a few times in the last 5 years. It's s very nice hotel, comfortable and classy. It dies need a little updating as in lobby green carpets, but service is very good and rooms are clean and nice. It can get noisy if there is a wedding celebration or party going on so advise ask for a room away from lobby, etc. Nice bar and big fan of the Sushi place on site. Crazy busy all you can eat Mexican breakfast buffet. Lots of family's go there. I do recommend if in Mexicali. read more

We reserved the hotel for a baseball tournament. I was impressed. The room and hotel is very clean. The staff is very friendly and have great customer service. The beds are very small two full beds so would need to upgrade if i brought the rest of the family. They also are very firm not very comfortable. But the cleanliness and location were the best. The food options are great too. The restaurant has a buffet or a la carte option. It's so good. I tried the tortilla soup, torta and enchiladas they did not disappoint. The bar service was spectacular they feature a mixologist that makes the best margaritas the music was a nice touch too with Spanish 80s flare. I'd have to say if we happen to come again for another reason we would be staying at this hotel. We got to experience one of the pools the only downfall is they should have pool service or a bar on that area but I was notified you could order service to the pool which is great. The bell staff is amazing as soon as you walk in the pick up your bags from your car tip them before you go and park because your bags will be in your room by the time you get there. They are on it with globe bags they definitely have it down. read more

I stayed at this Hotel the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, made our reservation with time for a suite. We get room #245 we checked in everything good, we get the suite, checked the room and noticed the room was hot. Started the AC we go out and do our thing with fambam come back around 9 PM room still hot, go to pool chill etc and the room still hot I called front desk to let them know about my issue at this time is already midnight until the tech came to check the AC, I got very frustrated it's 1 AM no issue has been resolved Victor the Manager at that shift he cannot get me to another room becuse the hotel is a full capacity brings us a fan which didn't work room was still hot sleep with the sliding door open it was a nightmare, he comes at 1.30 AM to knock on our door to offer us another room but it was smaller and it was not going to accommodate my family's needs. I asked him to please keep us in mind to move us to another room exactly the same for the following night.. it never happen and we ended up staying in the same room with the same issues. We ended up grabbing our things and moving to another hotel in area to accommodate my kids etc and returning the following to check out from the room To me this was very unprofessional, the suite we stayed it was not a free room like I told the Manager Victor and I was paying for my family to be comfortable spend $400 for 2 nights to suffer and for them at the end not to be able to make anything happen that is very unprofessional and they are not willing to accommodate to their guest. Extremely satisfied with my stay here, first of all the place is nice both inside out. Parking lot is very convenient located around the main entrances to the hotel with security at all times. Seems like this place is popular for weddings and all sort events as in my one night stay I witnessed at least weddings. The check in/out process is quick and simple with very friendly and professional staff. The room I was given had a decent view of the garden and a minor balcony. The rooms are clean and well kept. Bed sizes do seem somewhat on the small side. A major plus is the location of this hotel which is in the downtown or hotel zone of Mexicali which facilitates for an adventure to a bar/club,or a dining experience with just walking distance. read more

Had issues with our booking not matching what we reserved including not having breakfast included even though our confirmation email said we had it. Thought it was fixed at check in. In the morning we asked reception where the breakfast room is and they said we didn't get it with our room. Luckily the guy who checked us in the night before was near by and he sorted it out for us. The girl who was helping us wasn't really friendly or helpful. She said even though we reserved breakfast their system didn't reflect that? Not sure what the issue was but it was inconvenient. The guy was friendly and nice to deal with. The female at the desk not so much. The breakfast buffet ended up being really good. That's definitely the highlight of this hotel. Great food, a good variety and excellent service. Back to the rooms, the bathroom smelled of sewer. The bed wasn't horrible, but not real comfortable. I think maybe because of the carpet, our allergies bugged us a lot during our stay in the room. The hallways outside the rooms look old and dated. Overall it's a decent hotel. It looks luxurious online and on the outside but inside it's a slightly below-average hotel. I'd avoid the cheaper rooms here at upgrade to at least the suite jr., IF you're going to stay here. read more

And I can do dated rooms, what I can't do is our bed having hairs, dirty old carpets, very old towels. We were in town for a quinceniera stayed here for two nights. It's was very nice! The staff was very pleasant and helpful and the accommodations where clean and super nice. Staff are polite and kind. I have had a few not great experiences here but they are rare. The restaurant never wants to serve cold coffee even if I asked for it everyday for 3 weeks! Update: I asked for a Café frio today and it was perfect... Cold and bold! I'm not sure why they don't tell you that they have a conditioned or cold pool when you check in. But a huge plus to a gringo. The Wi-Fi doesn't work well at that pool but I'm sure that'll be fixed. I had food poison while here and they had a doctor come by the room, give me a shot and consulted me not to leave hotel until next day.. Fantastic 5 star service! And they always provide free water, smiles and try to talk to you in English and maybe teach me some Spanish. Jaja. A few problems...The Wi-Fi never stays connected and fit some reason on my iPhone, I always have to re enter the creds. My only connection to U.S.A. This is much better now. This visit brought me friends that work at the hotel and I even got to go try yoga which was great as my back was needing it. This is was by far one of the best stays I've had in Mexico in general!! The staff was amazing, the amenities were amazing, and the rooms were amazing. I landed at 3am and wasn't supposed to check in until later that day till 3pm. The lady was so nice, we checked in early, and got an extra day! She hooked us up to make the stay amazing. The staff was on it and never disrespectful. I can't wait to be back in Mexicali and stay here again!! read more

We stayed at the Governor Suite which is almost $400 dlls a night. It had a kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Room was dirty, carpets were so dirty that my son's feet were black from walking around. No hot water, tv was not working and was fixed the second day. Plumbing was also not working well. Tv remote not working as well as two of the phones in the suite. We stayed because we arrived at 11 pm with our kids and didn't want to drive around to find another place. Honestly the hotel was dirty, even the carpet in the hallways you can see how is not even well vacuumed. The one thing I did like was room service. The food was good and they were nice and quick with our orders. read more

It's almost 11pm and I just called front desk and they said us that music will be going on until 3am! I like to party, like at a club or hotel bar but when you make reservations at a hotel I do expect to be able to sleep! Tonight is going to be really rough! I'm very disappointed with this hotel. I've been coming here for 10 years when I'm in the area for work, at least a couple of times a year. Decent rooms but honestly, the amazing breakfast buffet is worth it alone. Recently came down here again and booked for 3 nights, ended up staying 2 because the work project finished early. It is now 2 months later and I am still trying to get the refund to my card for the 1 night that I'm owed (for some reason they charged my card for the entire 3 nights at check-in). I literally sat on the phone with an employee while he reviewed my receipt that I had to email to them because they "can't seem to find it" in their records, and he acknowledged and agreed that they need to process it on their end. Every time I call either nobody answers or they put me on hold forever until I give up and hang up. Every single person that I speak with says I need to speak to some special manager who must be a ghost because he supposedly only comes in at around 4pm, and only for 1 or 2 hours. Yet he's never there even at those times. Must be the best job ever. I finally got in touch with a couple of managers on 2 separate occasions who said they would call me back in the next 2 hours, of course that didn't happen. 1 of them even gave me a cell number of another manager to msg. Of course after 1 text response asking "who is this", I've received no additional responses. Absolute garbage of a hotel. Stay at one of the newer ones being built in the area rather than this shady place. read more

Araiza hotel in Mexicalli Baja was the worst hotel I ever stayed in . Maybe cause it's in Mexico they have no rules how to respect guest! I up grated from a 55 dollar room to a 100 dollar room to get a more comfortable stay. But the curtains were dirty and old. Also the carpet was nasty , the coffee pot didn't work , the remote for tv was replaced twice. On line they promise you breakfast with the room but they won't give it to you even if you show them the twenty hotel advertisements in your cell phone.I felt like a animal begging for food! I was staying at another hotel down the street and after 2 nights I checked into the Araiza because it was only about $15 more per night and I was not really enjoying my stay at the other hotel. The hotel I decided to leave was supposedly a 4 star hotel and Araiza was rated as a 5 star hotel. Based on my experience at both of these hotels I'd say a 4 star hotel in Mexicali is equivalent to maybe a 2.5 star hotel in the U.S. and Araiza was closer to a 3.5, but still it was significantly nicer than the first hotel I stayed at. I've only been to Mexico a few times, but for the most part I'd have to say integrity and professionalism as it relates to my consumer expectations has ranged from dismal to about what it should have been in the first place. So for $10 to $20 more a night just do yourself a favor and book a room at Araiza. It's super clean, they have central A/C, a nice swimming pool, bell hops, security guards, live music, blah, blah, all that stuff. Plus it's more or less state of the art. I hate it when I get to a hotel with "free wifi" and it's essentially useless, but that wasn't the case here. The wifi was fast enough to let me stream movies from my laptop to play on their tv. .Oh! Before I forget to mention it, bring an HDMI cable with you and you can hook it up to their TV. Things I really enjoyed: The food at the restaurant was fantastic. I don't normally like hotel restaurants because I like to try the local flavor, but after striking out at some supposedly wonderful spots suggested by some of the locals, I tried the food at the hotel and it was friggin delicious. Way better than I expected, and the price was more than reasonable. Plus, they offer buffet options for breakfast and dinner. They might for lunch as well, but I was always out and about at lunch time. They have a nice bar in the lobby and a pretty decent Sushi restaurant as well if that's your thing. I noticed someone else mentioned something about not getting good service here, but I never had that issue at all. I'd say the one real 5 star thing about this hotel was the courtesy and professionalism of the staff. They bent over backwards to make sure everything was always absolutely perfect during my stay and anytime I came in or out of the hotel they almost always greeted me by my last name. Last thing is I just wanted to mention a few of the staff by name for providing me above and beyond service. Marisella who works at the concierge desk is smart, capable, and followed though on several requests I needed done, and she did it with a sense of urgency. As though my time was important to her. Not something I found a whole lot of in trips to Mexico. Angel who is the morning restaurant manager always made me feel very welcome and seriously treated me like royalty. Love that guy. He was excellent. Oswaldo the restaurant manager during the evening was very impressive as well. I just always felt like the staff at this hotel valued my patronage and was going to make sure I knew just how much they appreciated me as a customer. That's some pretty 5 star customer service if you ask me. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Raul the night teller who was a fountain of useful information and just very pleasant to talk with. Lastly I just want to mention a taxi driver. I know it sounds weird, but the hotel only utilizes specific taxi drivers for their guests because they know these particular drivers always do a good job. Ask for Miguel though. I had a laundry list of things I needed to do and somehow Miguel always figured out how to get whatever it was I needed done. At one point I needed to locate a very hard to find compression medical device and have it tailored to fit and I spent an entire day with various cab drivers visiting medical stores trying to find this and that, but Miguel just got on the phone, made a bunch of calls and made the impossible possible without any shady business on his part. He's smart, capable, and even if you stay at another hotel for whatever reason, call Hotel Araiza and ask to have the taxi driver Miguel take you where you want to be. Seriously, he was that good. long review, but a worthwhile experience. I'll be back in December for another work project and will definitely book at Araiza. Oh and they don't make Starbucks type of drinks at the hotel. I spoke to one of the receptionists who explained that pretty much those types of drinks can only be bought at cafes near the local University because the popularity hasn't really caught on elsewhere. read more

We stayed here once a month for years until we discovered hotel Lucerna down the street. Rooms at araiza are only nice and floors 5&6. The rest are dumpy. Staff is not engaged and seemingly could care less to help out. Pools are nice but have limited chaise lounges and tables. No poolside service. Spend a few dollars more and stay at Lucerna and be taken care of the way you deserve to be. read more

We were initially greeted by the bell hop (Jesus), who was very friendly and helpful.  I thought, this was good way to start off the stay.  After we checked in and was situated in our room, my wife discovered hairs in the bathtub.  Jesus called someone on the radio and the tub was cleaned.  We all decided to go swimming in the heated pool.  To our dismay, the heated pool was not heated.  We decided to sit inside the Jacuzzi,  I noticed the pool lights were on, but the light inside the Jacuzzi was not functioning.  The water pressure in the shower fluctuated and was either too hot or too cold.  I was unable to adjust the lever on the tub to comfortable temperature.  After we showered, the room had a foul odor, similar to sewage smell. The Wifi is spotty and you have to connect every hour or so. The speed is around 6-7 mbs.   Prior to our checkout, my wife called the front end desk manager, Jesus Duarte to explain to him our issues with the hotel.  We just wanted him to be aware.  It appeared that he dismissed my wife's concerns and hurried her off the phone.  Overall, the hotel is decent for Mexicali. I would like to thank everyone at the Hotel Araiza for all their hospitality they provided to my wife and me for the week we were there. my wife had a medical procedure and from the moment she arrived (she was there before me) they treated her good and took care of her. they have a buffet and I guess there is no "to go" trays to take back to your room, so Angel, who is in charge of the restaurant, made sure that she had "to go" trays everyday since my wife was not able to walk to breakfast because of her surgery. Angel was very helpful and took care of us everyday. when my wife felt better and was able to go to breakfast, Angel made sure that she was comfortable and he even waited on her several times. Angel is one of the best managers we have ever came across. I did not get the night restaurant managers name but he also took care of us the one time we went down to dinner. the hotel is awesome. the room (we had a standard suite) was nice and up to date. they accommodated my wife with a bottom floor. they then moved her to a bottom floor room next to the pool. so great of them to do that. our housekeeper Jacqueline was great. she would come by early to clean and always asked if we needed anything she would take care of it. she was very funny too. she was very attentive. Overall the hotel was amazing from the bar, the restaurant, the pool area and all the staff we came across. this is a great hotel in Mexicali. will definitely stay again. This is a nice hotel with a lot of nice amenities however it will no longer be where I stay for business due to the lack of fundamental needs. On my recent stay, not only did the AC go out while we the average outside temperatures were 99 degrees F (37 Celsius) but I was switched to working at night where I just baked while sleeping on two separate occasions. Nice gym, pool, buffet, and staff but like a toilet and pillows, AC is not optional when it gets well over a hundred degrees. read more

The hotel is very nice and a great price I got on hotels.com. My concern is that my debit card got "skimmed" at this establishment. After a few hours in the lobby bar with my sister and niece, the bar tender and waitresses claimed my debit card wasn't working and I needed to get cash out to pay the bill, the cash machine was not producing any cash and I tried to retrieve cash twice. I returned back to the states and within a few days, fraudulent charges starting appearing, 3 at Dillards and 1 at Charlotte Russe, all transactions ended up cleaning out my checking account. The charges where POS, Point of Sale so one had to have produced my card and entered the pin, this was all done at retail stores in Phoenix area where I live. I am very dissapointed that this hotel and it's workers are stealing from their patrons or in cahoots with some sort of organized card stealing. I will never return to this hotel and I caution anyone who visits there. read more

I stayed at Araiza for 2 days and 1 night. As soon as I walked in the bathroom, there was pubic hairs in the bath tub. I took a shower after housekeeping supposedly cleaned it. Anyway, I decided to book a room there because of the pool for my kids. We went down to the heated pool and the water was not heated at all. We ended up getting in the jacuzzi. The lights in the jacuzzi where out and burned. Maintenance checked and said they were going to fix it the next day. The pools pump had turned off and they were fixing it till next day. I tried using the gym next morning and there was mosquitoes inside the gym so I left because it was uncomfortable. I talked to the shift manager (Jesus) about the issues and was very rude to me. He said he was going to take care of it. And offered free breakfast for my 3 year olds. Which was pointless because kids aren't charged for buffet. The only person that really was very nice and kind and attentive was (Angel) who is in charge of the waiters in the restaurant. He was an excellent host which I tipped. I will never stay at Araiza. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor in building 5 totally sucked. The rooms smell like sewer. read more
