A good hotel to stay at in downtown Steamboat. The best part about this hotel is its location and convenience. Great to be walking distance from all of the shops and restaurants downtown. There was free parking available, and could have driven anywhere in the area within a couple of minutes including the resort. It was also steps away from a free bus route that took you right to the ski base area. It was way less walking to use the bus from this hotel to get to the gondola, than it would have been from a parking lot. And took the same amount of time with no parking cost. There was also a joint ski storage room here which was very convenient. Outside of that, some of the other reviews hold true - it was definitely a slightly dated hotel. The rooms are small but not that small, and it wasn't a big deal. But the bathrooms and shower were definitely tight, and a little makeshift with the shower curtains. The walls were thin and I could hear anything going on in the hallway or neighbors rooms. Used radiator heating, and was woken up by popping from this outside of my room on both nights. The hot tub was nice but also wasn't very hot with no way to adjust, and there were a few flies, and the TV in that common area wasn't connected. Overall it was a fine place to stay. It is an old hotel and one of those places that if you just need a place to stay while enjoying the mountains is fine, but if you look too closely at some of the fine details will probably find more and more that isn't perfect. I would stay here again no problem. I would just wish it was either $100 less, or a little bit more updated for the price. read more

While this quaint boutique hotel's staff was friendly and attentive, you definitely are in a historic venue. We reserved what we thought was a single room with queen bed and sofa sleeper. In fact this was 2 rooms (1 and 3) separated by a jack-and-jill bathroom. No frills, small rooms. Our sofa sleeper had no sheets but we made do. Great hotel on Lincoln street in Steamboat. The rooms are cozy and antique chic. They have Qi enabled lamps to charge your phone (also has built in USB port). The furnishings are updated and bed has built in drawers which makes the most of its compact downtown location. Fresh coffee and scones (individually wrapped to comply with COVID) are offered in the morning. Ski lockers are offered for guests near the rear entrance. Great service by the front desk and staff. They offer off street parking for guests which is really nice. Easy to get around downtown and shuttle will take you to mountain. I would definitely stay at the Hotel Bristol again. read more

For the price, $450/night in January, and the location, downtown Steamboat's main avenue, I was sorely disappointed. It has a very basic lobby, ridiculously narrow and dull hallways, and very basic rooms. My "non-smoking room" smelled like an ashtray. By morning I had a splitting headache. The price should have been closer to $100 - $150 given the quality - even during peak season. I told the clerk about the cigarette smell in the room and asked about a partial rebate. She said she'd speak with the manager and that I'd hear back. Of course I never did. Unless the price drops, stay instead at the motel down the street, for a fairer deal. read more

Let me first start by saying that I love this hotel and this was my second stay. I had to reduce the stars because on our first visit our friends toilet wasn't working and during this visit the air conditioner wasn't working in August. That's said they did fix the toilet after the first night - problem is there is no one site after a certain time. The air conditioner they worked around by putting portable units in the room that vented through the window. The problem is they take up a lot of room in a already small space and the shades aren't designed to work around the unit so light in the room all night. My only other issue is the parking - we came in at approximately 8:30pm from dinner outside of town and there were no spaces in the hotel lot. We and another guest both went in asking about spaces and the nice staff person suggested that maybe we park else where and hope that some of the cars leave before we go to bed. She said she could go check to see if they were guests at the hotel but seemed afraid to do so. Now for the great part of the hotel - the staff are so friendly and willing to help ( less the parking issue one night). They are always so interested in what activity did or restaurant you ate at and how you felt about the experience. They love their town and it shows. The location is the best in town in my opinion - you can walk everywhere and not feel like you have hiked the downtown area. The rooms are small, but you shouldn't be spending a lot of time in the rooms when there is so much to enjoy outside the hotel. If you are wanting to "hang out" the common area is comfortable and inviting. This is also where they have breakfast in the mornings. I would look to stay here anytime we visit Steamboat. read more

The room itself is very small and old and run down. There were holes in the walls and the paint was cracking and chipping everywhere. The bathroom was small and muggy, and our toilet was constantly cycling, even after mentioning it to the front desk who said they would repair it, but it continued for our whole trip. The shower curtain was also moldy and so much condensation that I would get drips down my leg every time I used the toilet. They have a hot tub with a cool view of downtown, but it had some weird things floating around it when we tried to use it so we got out right away. There were definitely some good things though. The location downtown is awesome and they offered free bike rentals which was super fun for biking around town. The lobby area was also remodeled and nice and they offered coffee and baked goods which was a nice touch. Definitely won't come back, though. read more

Location, location, location. That's the best feature of the Bristol in the heart of downtown Steamboat. Within walking distance to just about everything downtown, you couldn't ask for a better location. It looks like it was an old boarding house or was a small hotel. The ambiance is charming, the staff was helpful, and they had a great lobby area for relaxing. Plus the parking was on-site which made it really convenient. But as an old hotel the rooms are very small, in fact our room had nowhere to sit except on the bed. You might argue that you don't go to Steamboat to sit in your hotel room, but... The room was pretty spartan, with only some nice soaps and shampoos to separate it from a YMCA room (they did have a TV but I could get anything on it). Tip: if you're a bigger than average person you'll have trouble fitting into the bathroom. So we knew it was a boutique hotel, but $260 for this room? To rub it in more we were looking at rooms in general as we were coming into town and they were advertising a special same day rate of $107?!? If you want to stay in the heart of things, and aren't too concerned about a very basic room, or the cost, this may just be the place for you. Or stay a little further from the DT area for a little better value. read more

Room was small but clean. Doors are thin, so you definitely will hear other guests going back to there rooms at night. No parking around 9pm on a Saturday night but after we get back from late dinner at 10:30, parking spots freed up (I think it was because the Italin restaurant in the back closed and dinners left). Bathroom windows has a gap, so was very cold in the morning. Bed was comfortable. Room was warm and comfortable. They have a hot tub facing the street. read more

Most fabulous stay in Steamboat. The cleanest hotel room ever! The bed was so comfy especially after the fabulous recommendation of Saddleback Ranch Horseback riding suggestion by Tyler. Tyler was and is awesome! He had great food recommendations from him. The hotel is older which we loved but that also means you hear all the noise from the hallway. Stayed for a wedding in town. The room was tiny! So small there was no room for a chair to sit on. The bed sat so tall it was not an option for putting on your shoes. The bed platform was so much larger than the mattress we were constantly stubbing toes. There is a difference between quaint and shabby and if this hotel was quaint once upon a time, it is now shabby. The hot tub did not work properly and was very dirty. It had paint drip marks where someone had tried to paint it with a brush. Scones were terrible. The only redeeming quality was the location. We would not stay there again. Also, the photos on the website are at best misleading and closer to fraud. We had 2 rooms and neither looked remotely like the pictures. read more

Very welcoming and friendly staff! The room we had was tiny for sure (think NYC apartment scale) but it was clean and sufficient. Would've loved to try one of the upper-end rooms, but couldn't justify the additional $ for as little as we are in the room. Great location! Great common areas (hot tub, lounge area, coffee area). I like quirky places to stay and this didn't disappoint. Also it was nice that the parking was free, since it's in the heart of town. Had a great stay! We loved Tyler at the front desk, he was super helpful! The smart TV's are awesome, so nice to access Hulu/net flicks/etc. No need at all for "cable" (who uses cable anymore it's 2019). They have updated the rooms-- the beds are comfortable, furnishings rustic modern, bathrooms updated. Yet, the hotel still holds a historic-charm. There is a really cute upstairs with a hot tub, Booth, tv area, drinks area, perfect to hang with a group or watch a sports game (that you are still able to access!) -- so great to be able to walk to everything from here, one of the only hotels on the Main Street. We stayed here about five years ago and it was fine, now I would say it's "nice"! They have done a great job and we will be back. Negative reviews are just angsty complainers. read more

When my husband and I walked in the room we slowly turned around, looked at each other and burst out laughing. That's how bad it was. This was the worst hotel room I've stayed in in a long time. We are not fancy people. When we travel, we usually stay at a Hilton Garden Inn or equivalent. As long as it's clean and comfortable, I'm happy. Hotel Bristol is neither clean nor comfortable. Frankly, it was a dump, or at least our room was a dump. The lobby and common areas were charming. The first thing that hit us was the weird musty smell. The room was tiny. Upon returning from dinner we discovered more fun things! There was a big hole in the wall under some massive unit of indeterminate type. I spent a lot of time in the dark that night wondering how big of a creature could crawl out of it. The comforter on the bed was covered in stains. The sheets had a disgusting dried up ...something... underneath my husbands pillow. Drips of some mysterious dark liquid on the edge of the sink. Moldy shower curtain. The lobby closes at 9 (no staff after this). We could leave or suck it up. We sucked it up (my Husband bravely cleaned the spot on the sheets) but did not sleep well due to the constant noise of drunks and people throwing things away in the dumpster outside our window, the hole in the wall, and the constant thought of "oh my god this bed I'm laying in is disgusting". Thinnest of thinnest walls make sure you hear people talking, yelling, and leaving and entering their rooms, oh and every time they flushed the toilet or took a shower. This damn room was like a sauna. It was so hot and muggy in there and there was no temp control and opening the window would have made the drunk/garbage noise unbearable. The whole room itself was rundown (wall paper peeling, marks all over the walls, baseboards peeling away). I gave the place two stars because it is in a great location. If you aren't concerned about cleanliness and are a very deep sleeper, you would probably think it's fine. read more

I got a great deal on this room (I believe it was the last room, so they put it on hotels.com so they would be at no-vacancy)-- and it was exactly what I was expecting! This is a historic hotel in the heart of Steamboat Springs-- I believe it's the only hotel in the city proper. We could walk to the shops and restaurants with ease, plus there was ample parking. The staff was friendly and helpful with anything we needed from checkin to departure. It definitely has the feel of a bed and breakfast or European hostel. Here's what you need to know: 1. It's historic. This comes with certain sizes. IE-- your room is small and the bathroom is tight. The furniture is rustic and sweet. 2. They planned for common areas: There is a hot tub upstairs plus a nook with games you can play. The downstairs has a toasty fireplace, table, and comfy couches that you're welcome to use. There are ski lockers with keys available. 3. Amenities: Coffee/tea/cocoa is available 24/7 in the lobby and was always well-stocked. The staff kept it clean and tidy with fresh towels each day. 4. You're close to EVERYTHING in Steamboat and that's great. I'd like to come back in the summer for the outdoor (Yampa River and Botanic) experiences. 5. This hotel has recommendations-- magazines, guides, brochures, and a knowledgeable staff. However, the staff isn't there 24 hours a day. Remember point 1. It's historic. If you want a generic Best Western/Days Inn, rent that room. But you won't get the charm of the Hotel Bristol! **I knocked off a star because the linens were very scratchy and the bed was extremely soft. The pillows were big and fluffy, which meant we squished into the bed but our heads were elevated to the extreme! Also, my boyfriend and I enjoyed several local restaurants in the area as well as other attractions. It was a great trip! read more

The walls and ceilings are a bit thin - you can hear folks talking in the hall and Libby areas, and the pipes running water through. Definitely can't leave the window facing the parking lot open - as if a generator is right there. The bed is comfortable, the room quaint (small and old). But does the job. Nothing surprising with the setup. The little add-ons are nice: chocolate pieces, bottle of water, ice container, glass cups. Disappointed to see the hot tub is out of service. Looks ok but has a sign on the door. Jeff at the front desk is amazing! Lots of great local advise and really helpful in the check-in process. He was key to an excellent first impression. "Great...Unless You Want to Sleep" The air circulation system in the hotel was so noisy that we could not sleep at night. The accommodations were so bad that we changed hotels after one night. What's worse is that the front desk said they have had this problem before and still refused to refund our money for the unused night. In addition, be prepared for a small, B&B-type room. The best part about the hotel is the location, which is right downtown. Considering Steamboat Springs is a small town, it's worth it to stay a little further away and actually get what you pay for -- some sleep. read more

If your grandparents lived in Steamboat, this might be what your room and bathroom would be like. Homey and charming, and a bit old-timey. The "queen" beds were actually doubles, and our "double" room turned out to be two single rooms adjoined by a common bathroom. A bit quirky but endearing. There is a no-frills hot-tub upstairs and wonderful coffee and a selection of teas in the lobby. Free wi-fi throughout. The location on the main downtown street could not be beat- there is a free town shuttle to the ski slopes that stops just a block and a half away and many restaurants just within a few blocks' radius. The staff we encountered were just wonderful and very glad to help with directions, weather reports, and local things to do. I would come back. read more

Well...the location is right downtown which was nice in the summer because we were close to the river. It's a little bit further away from the ski area, so if I was coming in the winter, I would keep that in mind...but still only a 10 minute drive. We could walk to the river, the hot springs, and every restaurant and bar in town, which was awesome. The staff was very nice, when they are there. They work pretty much business hours, so if you need anything at night or early in the morning you are SOL. The walls are VERY thin. We stayed in the frontier suite. Which gave us a small sitting room, a tiny bedroom (enough room for the bed only) and a shower--no tub. There is a hot tub here, which is nothing fancy, but nice to have. We were lucky that the guests were tame on this visit so the thin walls were not an issue. However, if you are at all worried about getting restful sleep, I could see this becoming an issue if there are rowdy guests. This hotel is nuts and bolts. Free coffee in the morning is nice and location is great. The beds were comfortable. Everything else was pretty subpar. read more

The standard rooms aren't big or tiny, just smaller than average. They do have larger rooms if you pay/request it. My room had a smell, maybe from winter snow damp in the carpet. The heat is from a radiator, but I didn't need it. Really nice hot tub on 2nd floor. Great price. Keep the entry code on your person since Front desk not staffed after 6pm. Comfy bed. Trash collection noise woke me up two of three mornings. But given the price and Central downtown location, I'd return. read more

What a quaint little place!! And it's right downtown. The front desk staff is very helpful, they were very accommodating with our late arrival! I wish we could stay all weekend. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable and everything is clean. It has a nice, old-timey mountain town feel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone stopping through town! Our room was quiet although we were above the back alley so we did hear the restaurant next door dumping their bottles at midnight. If you want fancy this probably isn't the place for you. Bummer. Hotel Bristol falls somewhere between 2 and 3 stars but the staff and location bump it up in my book. Pros: location, location, location! And the great water pressure in the shower and comphy king size bed. If not for the cons (see below) I would've slept like a baby and been a very happy camper, eager to return. ALSO, literally 10 minutes after we got back into Denver we got a call that we had left a few shirts in our room and Natalie graciously offered to mail them to us, so that's awesome and definitely part of their boutique hotel charm. UPDATE: we did have to pay shipping, so perhaps not quite as excellent as I first thought. Cons: it's SO loud and the ventilation is terrible. The walls seriously are paper thin. We had guests above us and a restaurant below us and it was literally too loud to fall asleep the first night. I went to the front desk to ask if we could move to another room, but they were booked so we were out of luck. It's a cute, quaint, old building so I don't expect perfection--if the only con was the noise we could've dealt. Unfortunately, the ventilation and circulation within our room were pretty bad, too. When we walked into the room it smelled stuffy; it was a little bit like my cousin's guest room where he keeps his hockey bag. Fortunately, it was an incredibly mild (winter) weekend and so we could leave the windows open to help out, but then we were constantly battling the sulfur, too (not that I'm complaining--the hot springs are glorious)! Although the bathroom had a window, it lacked a fan. Maybe the circulation is better in the summer with the AC? All in all, it's the lack of air movement that will probably keep us from returning, which is way too bad because the location, bed, and staff were so great! read more

This place is very cute. The location is perfect because it is in the middle of downtown Steamboat. My fiance and I walked almost everywhere. The front desk staff is very nice and helpful. The rooms are very small and the bathrooms are also very small. There is construction going on behind the hotel and it was very loud especially when we were trying to sleep in past 7 AM. We will be back here but hopefully the construction will be done before we go back. read more

We visited the Hotel Bristol on a lovely summer weekend, and stayed one night. The hotel bills itself as an "intimate" hotel, which it is. There are only about 30 rooms. The standard rooms are small, with a double bed, closet and bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the TV got cable, and the room was quiet. Don't expect to fit a family in one of the rooms - it's just large enough for a couple. The staff was very nice at check-in and check out. The hot tub on the second floor was nice - clean and warm, as it should be, with towels right there. Our only complaint was that the water temperature control in the shower was reversed in our room, and there were occasional spikes in water temperature. This is, of course, a sign of old plumbing. The AC unit was efficient, though the remote control was a little confusing. Overall, we had no significant problems there in room 28. The connected restaurant, Mazzola's, was excellent! In our off-season, weekend, we paid $139 +tax for the room, booked through a major hotel booking website. read more

No issues with the restaurant downstairs and no noise from other guests to speak of. Queen bed was of more than adequate size for two adults. first stayed 11 years ago.. this stay was Dec 8-9, 2014... an old hotel but right downtown in Steamboat... all rooms are 2nd floor.. the staff was really nice and friendly... it was very quiet at night... lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance... the one drawback is that it doesn't have an elevator and it was very difficult for me on this trip as I was in a cast to due to a foot fracture... made the reservation before I broke my foot.. read more

Stayed over columbus day weekend 2011. We used to live in Steamboat so we knew what we were getting. We wanted to be downtown and not in a fast food chain hotel. I work in the hotel biz and could have had a big discount at a McHotel on the edge of town. But our first time in the boat we stayed at the Nite's Rest (RIP) and wanted the same feel. History, character, glass doorknobs, tiled bathroom, etc. We had a 1st floor hotel room with a queen bed. Small but perfect for two. Nice bed, great blankets and pillows. Amazing water pressure and very hot water. Use the tub mat though, the floor of the tub is slippery! Very nice staff. We experienced no problems with noise, could not hear the bar below, even though it was open til 2 am. We will be back! read more

Great thing about this hotel was that it was downtown. My room was small and I barely fit into the shower and I'm not a big guy (5'9''). The front desk help was not very friendly, other than the young girl Natalya , who was personable and friendly. When I greeted the front desk with a hello and good evening, there was no response. Where do I start? Loud, rude guests yelling and running through the halls until 4:00 AM last night. No hotel staff are on the premises, so you apparently need to call an outside security company, which I didn't learn about until the next morning. I was actually afraid last night, the other guests were really, really drunk and fighting in the halls. I had two young boys who heard things and words they should never have had to hear this hotel. The woman manager actually asked me "why is it the hotels responsibility for loud, rude quests." If you are on the first floor, don't go at all. You mind as well sleep in the parking lot. Lights, engines, people's voices are basically in your room with you. Because we only got 2 hours of sleep, I asked for a refund on the room rate and the woman manager said she would comp me $20.00. That to me is not acceptable. After I told her my issues on the phone, she stated" Are you done" and said "have a nice day" and hung up. I have never written a review, but after last night, with only two hours of sleep between 4-6 am, I felt that others should know what to expect when booking a room at this hotel. At least the chains stand by their hotels and provide proper customer service when a hotel is out of control like the Hotel Bristol was last night. I will also never stay at a hotel that does not have staff on the premises. read more
