Staff was very nice, location good. This hotel is overpriced at 400 Euro per night especially with ZERO AMENITIES. I've been to Europe many times for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Jonathan: "Mon crayon est grand et mon crayon est jaune." Waiter: "Your pencil is big and yellow?" Jonathan: "Oui!" Waiter: "Nice for you." Trying to choose a hotel in Paris was overwhelming. With so many choices, where do you start? In my case, the first screening is usually Trip Advisor, to sort by neighborhood, price and rating. Then, of course, I start reading Yelp reviews. But, when you get down to the last few on your list, what puts one over the top? Turns out it was dialog from a classic 80s movie that never left my head. Before Top Gun, but after Revenge of the Nerds, Anthony Edwards starred in a ridiculously awesome movie called Gotcha! about a college student on vacation in Paris, who gets dragged into a spy caper by the lovely Linda Fiorentino. His comedic struggles using remedial French, still makes me smile. Especially the bit above, which made me think the Hotel Crayon was the place for me. The fact that it was close to Châtelet les Halles (the second stop on the RER B line from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport) and only blocks from the Louvre sealed the deal. Jonathan: "I don't know Manolo, I think it's hopeless. I'm never going to get laid!" Professor: "Although that thought may be of great comfort to the women of the world Mr. Moore, as a future veterinarian, you should know that every dog eventually has his day." My experience was excellent, as was the hotel staff's English, so it made for a smooth visit. The only negatives were making the initial reservation on their website. My credit card (actually two different ones) wouldn't go through, so I had to reserve by email. The lowest rate on-line (they had a promotional rate for a 3-night stay) wasn't mentioned when I contacted them by email, so it took a little back-and-forth to secure the lower rate offered on their own website. The other issue was finding the hotel. In the light of day, and from the street, it was very easy. Just a block and a half from Rue de Louvre which intersects with another major street, Rue de Rivoli. And it was very close to several Metro stations. However, arriving by train from the airport, was a bit of a nightmare because I didn't know which sortie (exit) to take. And this station is the largest in Paris, and to add to the confusion, there is a metro station and a rail station located inside a very large underground shopping mall. Their website tells you the metro stop, not the exit, so I'd highly recommend they make that update. The Chambre Singulière (single room) was just as adorable, and ridiculously small, as I expected. Just fine for one, but not enough room to stretch my arms and twirl (always my guideline). It was also whimsical and immaculately clean. Fun stenciled art on the wall mixed with vintage photos. Good linens, stylish toiletries and a shower with a ceiling spout (that was a surprise), that washed all my cares away after a long day. Free wi-fi and a nice flat screen TV with a couple of English language news channels mixed in with French TV. May I just say, after two weeks abroad with only having access to CNN and BBC1 (and 24-7 negative news that tends to be broadcast), I fell in love with Jimmy Fallon on this trip. Thank you CNBC! The staff was absolutely lovely during my three day stay including offering suggestions regarding local dining. The lobby is especially charming and was decorated for the season. There is an "Honesty Bar" filled with different beverages and you just note your consumption upon check-out to pay them back. Breakfast is available for an additional charge, but I always wanted to find cafes in different neighborhoods to get a broader experience, so I can't comment on the quality. As a home base in Paris, I was very pleased. Now that I have a better sense of the city, I still think the location was good, although not the most vibrant in town. So glad that I stayed in this charming little hotel, and will definitely be back the next time I'm in Paris! Yes, the rooms are on the small side, but that's pretty standard for a hotel in Europe. I loved the funky decor, from the fun colors and eclectic furniture to the crazy hallway wallpaper and unique sketches on each room's door. The bathroom in our room was nicely updated, with a rain shower that had excellent pressure and never ran out of hot water (an iffy thing sometimes depending on where you stay!). The location was perfect, near the Louvre and a metro stop. I also enjoyed the breakfast that the hotel provided. 10€ for a buffet of cheese, bread, cold cuts, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, and fruit. Service was great, and the employees at the front desk spoke English, which was a big help. They hotel also had free wifi, which was a little spotty at times, but for the most part worked decently. I only have a few complaints, and most of them are pretty small. The walls in the hotel are a little thin--we could hear people talking in the hallway, and I have no idea what the guests above us were doing, but it sounded like they were regularly rearranging the furniture in their room! Very odd. Also, the safe in our room was broken. The front desk kindly let us store our valuables in the lobby safe, but neglected to tell us that not every employee would have access to it, so we couldn't always get to our stuff when we wanted. It all worked out in the end, though, and overall I had a lovely time at the Hotel Crayon. read more

What a great hotel in Paris. I had read reviews from other websites and decided to book this place. It's the perfect place for a single person or a small couple. I'll be honest, the rooms are small and might be harder for a larger body build. Even the elevator is small, but for most of old Paris, elevators pretty small except for the more modern buildings. This hotel is a very "do more with less" place. But someone has taken this place and made it into a very elegant, fun, artsy, and hipster like hotel to be enjoyed. The staff is very friendly, they speak both French and English, and are good at anticipating your needs. They serve breakfast daily for guests from 7am - 10:30am downstairs in the kitchenette. There's also free WiFi, & the connection is good! The location of this hotel is very good! Surrounded by many restaurants and shops, the Metro is right up the street, the louvre is an enjoyable walk away, and the muse of modern art is just down a few blocks as well. I stayed four days here and it was super convenient for me. There are a couple negatives that might be worth noting, there's a club called Players next door where on some nights the music might be too loud. Also, the morning garbage collectors are pretty steady in the mornings. Noise don't bother me, but It might for other people. I also was able to pre-order a taxis at the front desk to the airport, it's a flat rate fee of 57 Euros to Charles De Gaulle airport - maybe be more for those who have more luggage and more people. Either way, if you just need the room to rest and somewhere to put your things while you spend most your day out and about Paris, you may just love this place! Bon voyage! :) read more

Stayed here for six nights and loved nearly every minute of it. Trendy and nice furnishings, incredible staff, and a great location. Why did I dock it a star? We had some noisy neighbors and the room above us sounded as if the tenants were tap dancing with heels for 14 hours of the day. Being jetlagged, we had some odd sleep/resting hours so that was a bit painful. The rooms were also very small. Highly recommended and would stay here again. read more

Everyone that worked there was amazing and helpful. The location was great. We walked to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Arc du Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower without any trouble--all within 2.5 miles. The room was clean and cute and euro-small. Don't expect space but a wonderful place to wrap up the day. If you want to eat food before 9 AM local time, book the hotel spread with the front desk ahead of time. Parisians seem to like to open breakfast joints at 9. Cheers mates. read more

I liked this hotel because: The front desk staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English (though I did try speaking French whenever possible). They were very accommodating to my mother and her friend who required assistance booking tours and taxis. I had booked a single room but was upgraded to a double room which was spacious (by European standards). The room had air conditioning, wood floors, and the shower was delightful. What I didn't like was the incredibly narrow spiral stairs. If you get dizzy easily or are of a larger size, opt for the equally narrow lift. The only time the stairs were really an issue was when the fire alarm went of about 1/2 past midnight because someone took a very hot shower and the steam set off the alarm. And if you do come down the stairs, be careful when opening the door which leads to the lobby. I accidentally hit the girl/waitress who was serving breakfast to which I immediately responded "Oh god, I'm so sorry!" and she responded with a death stare, pause, and then kept walking. That was my only rude encounter during my visit. But all in all great hotel for the price and location. read more

The entire hotel is very cute. The service was incredible and super helpful. They could help with getting reservations and giving directions and making recommendations. They spoke english for those whose need it (I did). The location is also incredible. It's only a 5 mins walk from the Rue de Rivoli stop on the 1. They offer an inexpensive breakfast, but there's a patisserie right around the corner called Souer Sucre that I highly recommend. We didn't bother with the breakfast, so I can't comment on the quality. My only complaint is the storage. The rooms are tiny which is to be expected in Paris, but the storage in the room was also tight. If they offered a slightly taller wardrobe or a slightly taller dresser it would make fitting in the room much easier. The bathrooms are also a little tight, but the showers are awesome. The pressure coming from the shower was adjustable ranging from a trickle to a pressure washer. All around a very good hotel and would definitely considering staying there again. read more

While the rooms are strikingly tiny, that's Paris for ya. Apparently there's a hotel with oversized rooms for 10K per night. No thanks. This place feels very Parisian. Plus, the staff, especially Anais who works the night shift, are awesome. Not only was I hooked up with a museum pass allowing me to bypass lines and not pay, I was given chocolate croissants and consistently and enthusiastically helped with my tourist needs. Early on, they gave me directions. Then they booked tickets, including Disneyland Paris and my night bus, which I wasn't even aware was an option, to and from Amsterdam. They took great care to compare deals and get me reasonable prices, not just haphazardly get me on my way. Now they're holding my carry-on for four days while I visit Amsterdam and relax again in Paris. Such a warm, comfortable place to spend your nights in Paris. A great location, too. read more

Friendliest staff ever. From the moment we walked in the door the staff was kind and helpful in every possible way. We were traveling with our 2 year old daughter who loved to sit at the front desk and visit with the resident fishie. They even let her feed him. The location of the hotel is great for walking to a lot of main attractions. Even in the cold winter weather (February), we walked to the Lourve, Roué de Paris, and Notre Dame, just to name a few. The size of the room was actually surprisingly bigger than we imagined for a boutiquey hotel in the center of the city. It wasn't large by any means but big enough for the two of us and our young daughter with a pack-n-play (which was provided by the hotel). The elevator is super duper small so if you're claustrophobic, I'd take the stairs (which feel like you are climbing the spiral steps of a bell tower). The room and common areas were very clean day after day. The friendly staff, clean rooms, and amazing location made our stay exceptional. We would definitely stay here again. read more

My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVED Hotel Crayon. When planning our trip to London/Paris, I searched on TripAdvisor and found this place listed in the top 100 in all of Paris. It looked so awesome, and looked to be a steal of a deal so I had to choose it! The hotel is so whimsical with its drawings on the walls, different color stairs, room numbers on the carpet, and brightly colored rooms. Each room has a different color scheme, and ours was orange! Everything is super clean and super cute. The showers are awesome, and the bed is comfy. Location-wise, this place is hard to beat! Just a short walk from the Louvre, Pont Neuf, and the Les Halles metro station. The staff at Hotel Crayon was just wonderful to us. They were helpful and kind (which was refreshing as we had a few too many experiences with rude Parisians outside of the hotel). The people at the front desk speak perfect English. They held our luggage for us after we had already checked out, so we could wander Paris as we had some time to burn before our train ride back to London. They helped me out in a time of need... I could not figure out how to use the impressive coffee machine in the downstairs breakfast bar, and a really sweet woman overseeing the breakfast bar saved me and taught me how to use it! They have an Honesty Bar, which is a "make yourself at home" concept where you can go down at any time and fix yourself a drink or snack on something and then tell them about it at check-out. Their room service menu is amazing. Everything on it sounded so good! The breakfast bar downstairs was AMAZING. It was nothing like American breakfasts, but I loved it! Hotel Crayon may not be rated on the market as a four star hotel but in my book it's absolutely four stars. My daughter and I were looking for a small hotel in a safe area of center city Paris. Hotel Crayon is small but "cute as a button" as we say in the South. The theme of all 30 something rooms is a crayon box. Bright colors with original art work. Black lights in the elevator. It has been totaled renovated and updated. The rooms are very small. We knew this. If you are in Paris how much time do you actually need in a room? The beds were soft down from the mattresses to the pillows and coverlets. Free Wifi and a flat screen TV. Windows opening onto the quite street for fresh breezes. A turn around only bathroom but with a really wonderful shower and all new fixtures. Maid service was excellent. The price was right. The staff spoke English and could not have been more helpful. They do have room service with an excellent menu. Neighborhood cafes and shops are friendly and very good. This is the Halles Area of the city. The Louvre is only a few blocks away as are metro stations and city/on and off bus stops. It is not large and fancy. It is like home away from home. If you need to me waited on hand and foot and have luxury abound, then find another Paris hotel. If you want an inexpensive but personal hotel experience then enjoy the Hotel Crayon.
