Aside from the old mansion, pretty standard Best Western accommodations. The standard king room is spacious, but starting to show its age. Fake wood tables and nightstands. The included breakfast not bad--buffet style with selections that will be familiar with anyone who has stayed at a Hampton or Fairfield. No butter or jam for the toast, and hotel staff all in hiding, so no requests possible. The one highlight was that the check-in desk is in the bar, so I was able to slake my thirst instantly after a long day in the car. Some staff were friendly, some clueless, so normal customer service for this level of hotel. Good for one night. read more

Never in my life had to stay at a hotel that housekeeping wakes you up before checkout time, and I've stayed in more states I can count. I got woken up to ridiculously loud knocking at my door at 9 AM, and then she tried to enter my room while I wasn't dressed, luckily my door chain was latched, I shouldn't have to put up a do not disturb sign overnight to ensure that housekeeping does not come into my room. A step above the typical BW. The property is gated with its own parking lot which made parking feel more secure. Rooms are fairly standard if you aren't staying in one of the suites in the mansion. The basic rooms are an addition behind the mansion with a view of the pool area. Blankets were a little thin and lacking for a cold night. I was hesitant to turn on the heater because it looked really dusty and would have aggravated my allergies. Walls are thin - we could hear our upstairs neighbors quite loudly. Breakfast was fine. Decent selection of eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit and yogurt. I was hoping for some southern options like the fried catfish in other photos but they didn't have it when we were there. The dining room is nice and felt elevated with real plates and silverware. There is also a bar in the original carriage house. Overall it's a unique place to stay. The historic mansion is nicely decorated with plenty of charm. I would consider staying here again the next time I'm in the area. read more

We try to stay here everytime on our way to Memphis. So much history behind this hotel. The check in , is in the barn, yes at one time it was a barn, in the barn they also have a bar. On the grounds they also have the slave quarters by the pool area. A full breakfast included, which is in the main house you can stay in the main house which are beautiful or the surrounding rooms on the property. Service is wonderful & restaurants near by.gated hotel . read more

We were in town for a destination wedding in Ohatchee, AL and decided to stay at this hotel as it was close by. LOCATION: in an obscure location- Waffle House walking distance + some random local stores. The area of Anniston seems to be this way. Entrance required a key to rcropen up the gates but when we first arrived without a key (before check in), security was not very tight. (yikes) HOTEL VIBES: It was a little difficult to find our hotel rooms. The layout is confusing and requires a lot of outdoor walking. Check in building different from dining areas. Keep in mind, there is not covered parking. Hot water took a while to turn on (old pipes?) and the windows/doors were not sound proof. I heard our neighbors opening/closing doors and the street noise was very noticeable. For the area, I believe this is a good hotel. However, I would suggest not getting a room facing the street. There were times random strangers and I made eye contact. read more

The staff was incredibly helpful, check in was a breeze, and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful, clean, and perfect for this weekend. The main provision, "what can I SAY?. It was dressesd immaculately, beautifully designed, and very impressive for historic view. There was a young lady who enhanced our knowledge on the hotel and its historic foundation. Pre planned accommodations during my Christmas/New Years trip to Alabama fell through so I had to book a hotel at the last minute as a fall back. Hotel Finial it was! Why? Well..... 1. Location: two minutes from where I needed to be. 2. It was the nicest option... 3. It was surprisingly better priced than the sketchy ghetto hotels right down the road. The last time I had stayed at this hotel it was still called The Victoria and it was grotesquely outdated. So I went in a little skeptical. The main buding is an old (and beautiful) Victorian style house.. back in my high school days that was also a restaurant and I went there after my senior prom for a fancy dinner. Now it's still the focal point of the hotel, beautifully decorated during the holidays, and where they serve the complimentary breakfast. Driving in, I noticed the hotel is now gated and enclosed (much appreciated for the location). To check in you have to stop in at the Carriage House (also the bar). They have a pretty nice selection in there, mostly focusing on high end whiskeys and whatnot. Check in was quick and easy and the staff was exceptionally friendly. Kudos to Hunter and Jessica! As one of the few guests for the holiday (New Year), I got an ideal room. First floor, easy access from the parking lot, room 119. It has obviously been remodeled since my last visit. Huge bathroom with a large walk-in shower (I think it may have been handicap accessible). Big comfy bed. Nice, clean, modern decorations. Overall, I felt absolutely at home during my holiday stay. When travelling home for the holidays this will continue to be my first option as long as they maintain the same standards from this trip! I recommend it to anyone in the area! read more

Where to begin..... This is my second time staying at this hotel. I have to agree with other reviewers by saying it is truly a hidden gem! The rooms are beautifully decorated and all of their bathrooms have a tiled walk-in shower with frameless glass doors. The beds are quite comfortable as well. Everyone from the pool guy to the groundskeeper and house keeping are super nice and helpful. We are here a second time moving my son into his dorms at JSU. I must say, if ever I'm in town overnight, this is where we will always choose to book! P.S. It is also next to a Greek pizza restaurant. Good pizza! Also, breakfast is included with your room. Breakfast is located in the ornate main house! You've got to stay here. read more

The Victoria was a charming B&B and restaurant 30 yrs ago when I lived in the area. The hotel came later and somewhere the name changed to Finial, but now it is all sadly diminished sort of like the area itself in the years after Ft McClellan closed. I was obviously bothering the agents at check-in, even though it seemed the hotel was almost empty. The breakfast was sparse, but that made sense because of the few people staying. The room had the most atrocious mildew smell and some other odor I couldn't place. I went to Walmart and got an air purifier...it just seemed easier than room-change roulette with the desk agents. All the employees I encountered seemed to make a concerted effort to avoid interacting with anyone. It was strange. I will be traveling to Anniston frequently this year and unfortunately this will not be one of the lodging options I can choose from. read more

Great atmosphere in the main building ... we stayed in the basic rooms in the add-on and rooms were nice. It was winter so it was quiet as the pool was closed. Location was convenient but there was a bit of traffic noise at night- particularly on Sat night. Covid had a pack-and-go style breakfast which was fair but as expected during the pandemic. Cons - just not the greatest service from a room amenities standpoint. Stayed three nights and they would not give a bottle of water past what was in the room at checkin. The vending machines were out of bottled water as well. Had to ask for tissue paper as no spares were given for 3 days. Housekeeping came in on third day but did not leave additional shampoo/soap. All small things but made for enough aggravation to not be that "five star" experience. But "you get what you pay for" and the room rate was economical. Would stay again and would love to stay in the main house suite. Would just bring the extra toiletries I need and would bring my own water. read more

We never got to stay in the room we booked. The room smelled of mildew, cigarette smoke and spray/deodorizer. I am very sensitive to mold/mildew, smoke and strong scents. We asked to switch rooms and they were very accommodating, but thev2nd room smelled worse than the first.​ we asked for a refund and went to another hotel. They had no problem giving us a refund and I was very happy about that. We also booked a handicapped room. The problem was that I only saw 2 handicapped parking spaces which were outside our room and already parked in. I had a very difficult time maneuvering my spouse into the room in a wheelchair because there wasn't enough space outside to get around. Also they offered breakfast but it was in another building. From what I could see that building was only accessible by steps, so we would not have been able to get into the building. Smelled and not a good fit if you're physically handicapped. read more

Two stars based on this experience. First, the good. The location (Main House) is absolutely beautiful. They provide a decent breakfast, although it is the almost the same thing each day. Now, the rest. The second evening, I found myself bitten by ants while lying in bed. I found about 20-30 ants in the bed, and was prepared to kill them and rough it out, but more were streaming in on the headboard. When I called to let the front know, the staff acted annoyed that I would bother them with this. When they called back, they let me know they would bring keys to a new room to me so I didn't have to walk to the front desk. When I got to the new room, it wouldn't open, almost as if it were locked from inside. So, bags in tow, I walked to the front. Staff asked if I pulled up on the handle, as some of the doors do that on that side of the location. So, with a begrudging attitude, they walked with me to the room. When I pulled up on the handle, it opened. I'm sorry, I didn't realize the trick at first. Colleagues I was traveling with had warned that the "service please" tag on the door, didn't mean the room would be cleaned, as they had it out for two days without cleaning. After putting out my tag, I asked a nearby cleaning staff if it was possible to have my room 'refreshed.' She didn't know what I meant by that, but rudely said, put your tag out, and I could ask the front desk, then walked off. Needless to say, it wasn't cleaned until the next day, after asking the front desk. All of the staff encountered seemed bothered by any request or interaction. Sadly, a beautiful location that seems to not be run well. Two stars for the beauty of the main house. *also, ask before ordering a drink, as the 1 1/4 pour of some liquor is $25.00. It's not privately owned anymore but it's a Best Western. We had an emergency at Christmas Eve and needed a room. We chose the Finial because we wanted to get a very nice room with some exclusivity, we never stayed there before. Reservations were made and we came to check in. Two clerks behind the counter checked us in, nothing special until they told us 3rd floor outside unit stairs are on the breezeway. My husband is a disabled veteran that can not climb stairs but on the way in we saw a sign that said elevators so surely it would be fine. We parked and b.t.w they only have two handicapped parking spaces, took out overnight bag out and got to the elevator in the freezing cold just to see a sign that read " due to freezing temperatures the elevator is out of order" We made it up to the room, which was nothing special not worth the money for sure. Regular room that you can get anywhere, wall paper came off the of the wall and carpet was so thin and dirty we wore out shoes. We really just wanted to shower and maybe rest a bit because our pipes burst at our house but it wasn't possible. Kids were running along the outside hallway constantly and like I said it wasn't clean. We showered and left. We came back to checkout and April was at the desk and we told her that there was no way we could have stayed because off the stairs. If we wanted to get food we wouldn't have been able to make it back up. She told us she didn't know anything because she wasn't here, I explained that the guys from last night didn't let us know the elevator was out of order at all. Again, silence I said my husband is a disabled veteran who cannot climb three flights of stairs, silence. We gave her the keys and I let her know that I would write a review about this place. Here comes the banger, I was in the car reading their bill and see that they give military or retired military 10% off the bill plus this place is not privately owned anymore but it's a BEST WESTERN. Our first and second choices for an overnight accommodation fell through on a recent trip from Georgia to Arkansas. The third try was the charm when my wife found the Hotel Finial online and called to reserve a room. Since we were traveling with my mother, we booked the large Ballroom suite which occupied the entire third floor of the elegant 1888 Victorian residence-turned-hotel. We later learned that there are additional modern hotel rooms out back of the main original structure, attached by a covered walkway, which share a pool and the gated security of the hotel grounds. Jacob was working the front desk when we arrived and he took exceptionally good care of us. He went above and beyond the usual services expected of a host, personally bringing us missing linens for the queen sized Murphy bed-walking a good distance and up flights of stairs* to so so. Later that evening, he even supplied us with snacks from the bar when we inquired about snack vending machines (of which there are none on the premises). The included breakfast buffet was served on the first floor of the main house and seating was spread throughout several of the period restored rooms of that same level. The hot breakfast, which featured a "grits bar" was delicious and generously varied and maintained by friendly, gracious staff. *(Be aware that, true to the time period of the original dwelling, there are no elevators in the main house. There are elevators for the modern additional rooms, however.) read more

Stayed here five nights, and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Lumpy bed, the tv was broken (could only watch one channel), ripped wall paper, things didn't look / feel clean. "The grits bar" is a lie (one crockpot of grits). housekeeping woke me up at 7:30 the first day (no "Do Not Disturb" sign in the room), so I cancelled for the next day because I had towels and needed rest--they never came again and I had to hunt for towels, take out my own trash. Just a poor, pathetic excuse for a hotel. Not what they're advertising. The front desk folks were really kind, but everything else was lackluster. And noisy! Ended up sleeping at a friend's most of the time despite the high cost. read more

Service and rooms were absolutely wonderful. I also greatly enjoyed the breakfast, which was definitely better quality than other hotels. Room were so nicely decorated and the quality of the linens especially in the bathroom were great. The only downfall is the distance my room was from the parking lot but there aren't much options to change that overall. Nice hotel. Built around a historic Victorian mansion. Rooms are very clean and well appointed. It's a really nice property for the area. The reason I gave it three stars is because they still advertise a southern breakfast bar on the main website. We had a large party coming in for graduation and booked several rooms and one of the main reasons we made reservations here was because of the breakfast buffet. Turns out NO BREAKFAST BAR! It's replaced with a grab and go in the bar pretty disappointing! Especially since we didn't realize it until our entire party, including my elderly handicapped mom, went in to the main house looking for breakfast . So we had to settle for prepackaged biscuits and pastries. To there credit it was mentioned on the COVID update ( the only thing I didn't pay attention to) on their website. But that was the only place. It was still advertised on the main site, in the elevators and at the check in desk. No mention of it anywhere else. There's lots of noise. Could hear neighbors TVs , more traffic noise than you'll expect and a very loud air conditioning. If I ever have occasion to stay in Anniston I'll probably opt for a courtyard or a Hampton. read more

Bypass the Oxford chains and stay here. You will be glad you did. It is nicer, cleaner, and often cheaper than the competition. It's the best place to stay in the area. The service is excellent and their southern breakfast is far better than typical hotel breakfasts. There's a nice pool and this is half way between Atlanta and Birmingham, so makes a nice stop if traveling. Also, it is supporting a local business. read more

This was an unexpected gem. Driving down from the Chicago area, we had hoped to find a place nearer to Huntsville. However, because of spring break virtually every hotel near & along I65 were full. So we had to keep driving until nearly two hours longer, we stopped & made reservations well off Interstate 65 at this place called Hotel Finial. What a stroke of luck. The place is absolutely beautiful rich with Southern charm, colorful history & Contemporary & beautifully designed rooms. Our only regret was we were only staying one night. read more

My son and I recently stayed here overnight while traveling from Napa Valley, CA to Orlando, where is relocating as a chef. I attended JSU, close to Anniston, and had always wanted to stay in this beautiful hotel even before it was under the current name, but never had the opportunity. I have to say that without a doubt this was and is one of the most enjoyable stays I have ever had anywhere. We checked in and as soon as we walked in to check in, the folks at the bar and the person checking us in spoke and smiled. The room was delightful and the shower was the largest and best shower I have had in any hotel. When we got up, we walked over to the main house for the buffet breakfast and it was absolutely delicious! My son is a chef and he completely agreed, wonderful breakfast with grits, biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, and catish fillets. And everyone in the dining rooms smiled and spoke and the chef even coming out to speak to the people who were eating. There is absolutely nothing that I didn't love about my stay here... the gated entry and exit made me feel safe and I absolutely loved every minute of the time we were there. We will be back and I highly suggest if you have the opportunity, you chose to stay here as well, it was a treat and also the same price as the other chain hotels that we have stayed in on prior visits down in Oxford. read more

This hotel is like an oasis. The hotel speaks of quality & detail. All cotton linens & extremely comfortable beds w/ ample soft pillows make for a great nights sleep. This was a great reunion place with lots of outdoor sitting areas & pool. read more

Professional & friendly staff. Nice location. Spacious & comfortable rooms. Upon arrival can drive pass the front entrance gate but go around the block & there's a 2nd gate. VERY limited parking inside the gates. Had to contact the front desk when we couldn't get in our room...told it was a common issue & just had to pull up then push. Pillows, like in most hotels now, goes flat immediately. To get to the 3rd level on the building we were in, you will have to go up 2 flight of stairs after getting off the elevator. The hot breakfast was tasty with items you don't find at other hotels, like catfish strips & grits. The dining room had spaces for large groups & quaint little nooks. Overall experience was good & we would stay here again. read more

We were very impressed with the Hotel Finial! The rooms, cottage (with bar service) and the main house had been recently remodeled, the interior was modern, rustic, and chic. The grounds were well maintained & the breakfast service was some of the best I've had! This stay was such a welcomed surprise for us as we had never been in Anniston, and try to not stay in chain hotels. I would recommend the Hotel Finial to those looking for a modern twist and change of pace from large hotel chains. read more

Nice place. Beautiful house. Breakfast is included in the house but most of the room are in an add on section in the back. Pool was nice. Grounds were well maintained and clean. Everything is newly renovated. The neighborhood is a little rough around the edges but we felt very safe and the parking lot is completely enclosed. read more
