We go up and there are two single beds pushed together (not one king). Also the pillows were paper thin I don't know how people used them. Anyway, we went back down to ask for the upgrade since our room wasn't what we requested and a different receptionist was there who said all of a sudden everything was booked? It didn't make any sense. The TV almost never worked in the room and the shower in the bathroom is the same level as the floor with two curtains to contain the water; basically every time you take a shower the entire bathroom is soaked. The breakfast is included but is basically scrambled eggs and bacon. The breads/waffles/etc were very stale. Also you get "free Wifi" with these access codes you get at the front but the Wifi was agonizingly slow to the point where I couldn't use it and had to use my data/roaming plan on my phone instead. The good things were that the room was presentable, there was room service daily and it was right around the corner from the Tempodrom which is where we were going for a concert. Overall I wasn't a fan but this may be good enough for visitors who need a decent place to stay for a few nights.

Reluctantly, I had a room that was directly on the inner courtyard -- but it turned out to be very nice with a small window in the floor that was over a coy pond (!) The beds were heavenly comfortable and everthing was new and shiny, very nicely upkept. Very sexy hotel room. My only problem was the location was a tad odd, I suggest renting a bike as your nearest transportation options is the tram which can be quite random.

The location is great, just around the corner from the beautiful Kollwitzstrasse where you'll find dozens of bars and restaurants. The rooms are super stylish. A lot of attention has been paid to small details. Ultra comfy beds, modern furniture, tasteful art on the walls, wifi and even kitchenettes with refrigerators. It's a very sexy place. Stylish and hip, without a hint of pretension. Perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway in Berlin.

Boy was I happy to arrive at the hotel…read more Unfortunately, we experienced a bit of an ordeal getting here when our well planned arrangements went awry. Lets just say I won't be flying KLM again anytime soon. This Best Western has a fantastic central location. About a 5 minute taxi ride from the Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and a few blocks from the Friedrichstrasse S-bahn station. When leaving the hotel to set off on our adventures, we could easily stroll to a sidewalk cafe or bar along the Spree River, hop on a river cruise or visit the Reichstag or other notable sites. The hotel is sandwiched between two very interesting buildings. On one side there is a WW2 bunker that still shows damage from the war. It is now a private residence and art gallery (by appointment). On the other side is the Ukrainian Embassy which, as you can imagine, had a large memorial in front. We spent as little time as possible in the hotel for a variety of reasons, but mainly because (a) Berlin is amazing and (b) the room felt claustrophobic. We actually stayed at this hotel on two occasions at the beginning and end of our trip to Europe. On the first visit, it was a hot day and due to the modern glass style of the hotel, there are floor to ceiling windows running the full length of one side of your room. If you were on the sunny side of the building, it was extremely hot in the room, even with the fan running on high. And the rooms are tiny in the extreme. Our cruise ship staterooms were spacious by comparison. It was difficult to fit both people and luggage in the room. We had early departures for a train and plane during our stay and arranged wake-up calls with the front desk. On the first wake-up call, they woke us up 45 minutes prior to the arranged time. The second time it was right on time. On our first stay we were on the fourth floor and on our return visit the first floor (for Americans, that means one floor above street level). I would recommend requesting a higher floor to lessen some of the street noise. The hotel is about a block off a busy road, but we still heard a fair bit of noise with our window open. Basic TV channels and almost all stations are in German. Positive points: The price was right. Definitely an economical option for such a central location. Free wi-fi, plus computers with a printer in the lobby for your boarding passes. We also loved the breakfast here. The cost is 9Euro, but it was a wonderful buffet of hot and cold items, rolls, pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee and juice.

Breakfast is very good and available for 9 Euro. They offer bike rentals. Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag just 10 min walk away. U-bahn also very close by. Many close by restaurants, sightseeing cruises and souvenir shops.

After the check in the room was refreshingly clean and offered a very good view into the peacful outside garden/porch area. WiFi could be faster, which does come as a slight negetive as you could simply buy a Sim card with triple the speed data for a fraction of the cost of the "premium connection". There is a slight bonus with regards to free phone calls from the room which could be useful. Otherwise, the staff are incredibly welcoming! Any issue is resolved within minutes from the front desk. Overall I will be back without a doubt!

But stay here for the proper German breakfast. It has everything! Eggs, sausages, smoked salmon, crispy bacon, all the dense dark breads and of course several jams and jellies. Great location, (mostly) nice staff, new and modern feel to the rooms…read more The bed was comfortable, the shower was nice, and the amenities in the bathroom (soap, hair dryer) were fine. Little espresso machine in the room was nice. But, to be honest, I couldn't find much of a difference between this hotel and the €20/night hostel I stayed in a few nights prior, except for, perhaps, the intricate wallpaper (and that's saying something... I don't "do" hostels). We were told at check in that if we'd like breakfast it would be €13 (as it wasn't included in the reservation for us) and we could pay beforehand. The last morning, before I had to leave for the airport, I thought I'd give it a try for the sake of convenience. The front desk informed me that what I was previously told was incorrect and I'd have to pay €15 (no big deal), but unfortunately, breakfast wasn't worth half of that. Some dry pastries, fruit, yogurt, bland coffee, lifeless scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. I paid less and ate far better for breakfast in many other places throughout Berlin. Sure, it was nice... but far better if it isn't being paid for by your bank account, mainly because the value for the money isn't clear. If you have a smaller budget for your trip to Berlin, don't overlook staying somewhere like the Jugendgästehaus (youth hostel... if you're young enough). If money doesn't matter to you, then look somewhere more plush and luxurious than the Holiday Inn.
