We stayed here last night (unplanned). We took the ferry over from Cancun and decided we wanted to extend our golf cart to 24 hours and stay the night - a great choice. We checked into a place on the southern side of the island and were horrified at the thought of sleeping there. After an hour of calling around, reading reviews, and making availability calls, we connected with Hotel Las Palmas.
Let's be honest about what this place is....it's not a five, four or even three star place by US standards. It is a well cared-for and well thought out effort in a perfect location. Probably the worst, coldest shower I've had since the days of my vagabond youth. Can't say I used the toilet, but I'm sure it's problematic like most of the island places. We slept under mosquito nets on a so-so mattress. Reading all of that back this sounds like a really bad spot to choose, but I kind of loved it.
If you're a picky, pampered American, this probably isn't a good option, but if you're flexible and easy going, you'll be happy here. read more
