The Titanic of Vienna Hotels…read more Owner's mistress at the front desk hangs up on colleagues and customers, including regular customers and their guests, threatens to call the police on them when they protest (even after said customer had already paid 9 nights and was giving them 4 more nights of business despite having been overcharged by a factor of 6 when he checked in), and unsuccessfully tries to have them blacklisted (she also apparently summarily "confiscates" flowers sent to owners of apartments above the hotel, or at least throws them out without notification). The hotel is so poorly managed that the front desk manager will refuse to meet and address concerns. This mismanagement is completely unfair to all the professional staff who have to work much harder to compensate for some of their colleagues' behaviors. Unfortunately, summarily putting 6 stars in their logo, is not going to solve the issue. At the same price, I took a corner suite on the 17th floor of the Sofitel, with a view on the St-Stephan's Cathedral and the Belvedere Palace on one side, and the Prater and the Urania on the other. Until the hotel changes ownership, or at least management, you may want to do the same.

CHARGED 59€ FOR CANCELLATION WITHOUT APPROVAL…read more I booked this hotel at 8pm last night My bus into Vienna was delayed last night and I tried to cancel my booking apx an hour later. The money came off my account before I had finished my request for cancellation and the hotel said they couldn't do anything about it as it was actually booking.com who made the decision. The money however was charged from the hotel . It amazes me how easy they take the money but cannot return it. I had an email this morning at 9:12 am asking to confirm if I wanted to cancel my booking or keep it !? But the money was gone and we had not stayed. THE EMAIL SHOULD ALSO HAVE COME THROUGH LAST NIGHT. We asked the hotel if we could move the booking or get a credit and they refused. Neither the hotel or booking.com want to take responsibility for the systems functional errors. I did want to stay here the next night (tonight) but will be looking for a different hotel provider.

This idea of machine coffee would have previously sounded like some weird gas station coffee from the US but alas we are in another place and it was really tasty and we enjoyed. They had all sorts of meats, cheeses, breads, fruit. Oh it was great. Also little pate' and nutella and jams. We loved. Really the quality of the food was good and the employees attentive. The room was a good size - not huge but plenty of room. Like the bed took up most of the room and only one person could walk past the end of the bed at once - but then there was more room past the bed. No big deal. There did seem to be plenty of room to put our stuff around. We had two giant suitcases that fit underneath a counter just fine. The view was amazing. In Vienna it was warm. We were warm. We were always - warm. WARM! Outside it was HOT. Everything about Vienna and the beverages were warm to us. The room while not WARM was not cool. The windows would not open. So we struggled to cool off back at the room. I do not blame the hotel. I am from Ohio, USA. It is very seldom hot here and we always have a breeze and don't even regularly see sunshine. Here people did not seem to be overly warm - just us. But just a note that we were warm. We were on an upper floor so this could have contributed to it. And it was June and unseasonably warm there at the time. The hotel staff were all very professional and nice! And the lobby was comfortable and oh gosh we just really loved it and it was convenient to the subway or whatever they call it. It was close to Westbahnhof station and of course the trains are excellent. It was also close to a pedestrian area - Mariahilfer street which had many shops and restaurants. We just loved! It is so trendy to be negative. I didn't travel dang halfway around the world just to pick stuff apart and have a bad time.

The hotel did…read morenot provide any body wash or bar soap, so we had to pump hand soap into a cup to use in the shower (the hand soap was on the wall and could not be removed). The entire room smelled like cigarette smoke, and I really should have let my bf complain to the receptionist when I we checked in but I foolishly thought the smell would go away. Trust me, it did not. Lastly, I emailed the hotel prior to booking the hotel to confirm wifi was complimentary, which turns out that it was, but the wifi service broke down the second day we were there so it was completely unusable. It did not make remote working possible, thank goodness for mobile hotspots. The hotel is located approximately 25mins from the city center by the 44 tram, so fairly convenient except it does take some time to commute. And the hotel is renovated nicely, so that edged my rating up to 2 stars (rather than 1).

The location is really convenient for the U Bahn, or underground as we call it in London and we had no problem getting around while we were in town. You can walk from the station at Alser Strasse in less than 5 minutes. Breakfast was above average, a good spread of pretty much everything you could imagine on a breakfast menu, they even serve sparkling wine. It's buffet service but it was never overly busy during our stay. On the Saturday morning we were treated to a pair of violinists playing for us as we ate, and very good they were too. The staff on reception were courteous and helpful and all spoke impeccable English, which is good as my German only extends to useful phrases like "Where is the youth hostel?" So far so good, right? So why have I only given them 3 stars? The room. The room was tatty, the hallways leading to the room were tatty. We were on the top floor and the higher you went it seemed that the worse the state of repair got. There are gouges in the walls and doors, torn wallpaper and general signs that the place really needs a bit of love. The second thing which I didn't like was you have to pay for WiFi, this really annoys me in hotels. I expect to have free internet, if you want more money put your room rate up... Anyway, don't get me started on that or I'll never stop typing. There are signs up which say they are in the process of carrying out improvements to the hotel, and once they get all the rooms up to the same standard as you experience when you walk into the lobby it will be a wonderful place to stay. Right now it's good if you just want a cheap place to sleep but don't expect to be wowed with it.
