LOCATION: Florence, Italy DATE: 2009…read moreHOTEL: Wall Art This amazing hotel truly lives up to its name! Once you enter you will see so many original art pieces by upcoming Italian artists. My favorite art piece has to be this panoramic canvas with nothing but lucha libre wrestling masks that represent each country in the world!!!! I was very very impressed by the artist's very unique and random concept. It's just one of many forms of art around this great hotel... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wall-art-prato?select=jDeQ8xBZbXmeFOXF2M2s9A#V7ZrQQ6kqjBk6IVpqgrdCg If you get a room with a window, you will see the beautiful mountains and the local school across from it, filled with political propoganda on the walls. You will also see some unique/artsy gardening as well: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wall-art-prato?select=jDeQ8xBZbXmeFOXF2M2s9A#50GoEAlzrTImOkqvHVCH0g The hotel room I was in had one of the most epic headboards ever...lighting and all: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wall-art-prato?select=jDeQ8xBZbXmeFOXF2M2s9A#LOsKsAKAeoyCno84mgvP4g It felt as if I was in a snazzy, Italian loft... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wall-art-prato?select=jDeQ8xBZbXmeFOXF2M2s9A#sIfiMNaayTDhoXOKk_-K4A The customer service was not bad at all...like I said, I really enjoyed walking around this place, staring at the artwork everywhere. Their continental breakfast is pretty bad-ass too! If I was to ever come back to Italy, I would LOVE to come back to this hotel.

Our stay was good. Room was interesting...like the name of the hotel states...it was artistic. Very…read moreclean. Only issue I had was that there was not food available all the time. We tried to get an early dinner, but it was not available. We ended up having to leave the hotel to get food...and honestly, there was not that much good food around. We had to walk a long distance to find something decent.

Part of the building dates to the 15th century, when it was a convent - something that make just the passing by an incredible moment; The food lives up to the building's colorful history. Do not miss the sedano ripieno alla pratese (stuffed celery), in which celery is pressed, stuffed with a minced veal and mortadella filling, coated in flour and egg, and fried in olive oil. A tasty ragù crowns the dish. Another house specialty is the filetto al pepe verde (beef filet in a creamy green peppercorn sauce). The wine list boasts local favorites. This is a one of the few non-tourist spots around. That makes this experience a "must go".

They were telling me about how good their dinner experience was the night before and by sheer coincidence Daniel the owner they met the night before is catering the wedding reception. The food prepared at the weeding was of stunning quality and presentation. I have been blessed to eat at amazing locations over the years but what Daniel pulled off for a group of 120 people was nothing short of magic. From the initial appetizers which consisted of some of the best salumi's and cheeses I have had, through the 3 course sit down dinner where he somehow managed a small army of staff to perfectly cook and present rissoto, pasta and steak courses, and finally through what will have to go down as the largest and tastiest tart (served as the wedding cake) that I will ever experience. If all that isn't enough Daniel speaks fluent English (his mom hails from Brooklyn) and is world traveled. He was a generous and enthusiastic host. Based on what I saw him pull off for a group of 120 I think you would be crazy not to visit his day job if you are anywhere near Prato.
