Located across from the gelato place and next to a bakery restaurant. It's located about 20 minute from the Termini which we took arrive in Florence from Rome. This place is all within walking distance to the cathedral and a local museum. Florence is known for it's designer brand shopping, so shoppers can unite out here. The amenities are minimal, but more for the "greener" side in terms of being environmental. Since we were in the area where it's all pedestrian area where no cars were allowed, there was minimal road noise, but perhaps some noise from the street cleaning and night life.

The rooms were perfect for our needs. I wasn't looking for a 5-star hotel, so I would adjust my expectations, but for what it is, it was great. Comments: 1) A number of stairs before you actually get to an elevator that just helps one with extra floor (for someone with bad knees, this helps). 2) Breakfast available for ~10 or 12 Euro / day depending on whether you pay in advance. 3) Staff (incredibly friendly and helpful) provides you with a physical key that you drop off before you leave (you never take your key with you when you leave the hotel). 4) There is a stink from the bathroom, and I heard from another tourist at another hotel, they had the same stank. It's as if they're not using P-traps, so it allows a sewer like smell to enter the bathrooms. Was a little gross... I won't lie, but separate from the bathroom door, there's another door that separates your room, so you can easily block the smell from entering your room (I can only speak to the "Quadruple room"). 5) "Quadruple" room had 3 beds: 1 double / queen (2 singles stuck together), and 2 single beds. All in one room. 1 tv where I did find 1 channel in English, but most were in Italian... but there was Netflix, etc. the you could access on the tv. 6) WiFi - Super helpful and needed in Florence. Note: The city has free WiFi... never knew that until the end of my trip. 7) Elevators are SUPER tiny... could barely fit two people with small carry-on luggage (that needed to be stacked for 2 people to fit). Any large suitcase would only allow 1 person to use it at a time. 8) Secure area - Once you enter into the hotel doors, it feels safe on your way to the elevator. Entry into the hotel is achieved by pushing on the "doorbell" button for the hotel from the street which unlocks the doors and gives you access to the building. (Super easy)

It's a charming hotel only minutes from the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi and Academia. We walked everywhere, including the train station, and loved the walkability of the hotel. You receive heavy keys to get in and out of your room, then return the key before exiting and pick it up upon returning. The continental breakfast is perfect with a small amount of eggs, sausage, cheeses, meats, pastries and breads. It also comes with nice, coffee and espresso or cappuccino. We will most certainly be returning to Florence and Hotel Pierre will be the first stop.

It is just a little off the beaten path, but it was well worth it. Upon entering, the establishment itself dates back to the 19th century, offering a delightful blend of elegance and comfort within walking distance of some decent restaurants, parks, and tram/bus stations. We were greeted by Elizabeth at the front desk, who was friendly and so helpful, which made our stay more pleasant. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The bed was comfortable. Every morning in the breakfast room, we were offered a rich buffet of sweet delights, fresh fruits, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, and gluten-free products. A very nice touch was the locally produced honeycomb that was served to add to yogurt, cereal, tea, etc. It was delicious and hit the spot. Overall, the hotel exceeded our expectations, which we can recommend.

At this price point, Hotel La Fortezza is a huge win! I secured one of the recently 'refreshed…read morerooms', which I strongly recommend (Stayed in #218). The bed was comfortable, the room quiet and the décor modern. From the moment we checked in the front staff (Young woman during the day and in the evenings a gentlemen) were always welcoming and helpful. Bed was super comfortable, nice chill box in the lobby with a small selection of reasonably priced beverages and wines for last minute purchase. In addition to being a great hotel and wonderful stay, I will add four tips that make it even more special: 1. Pay a nominal amount more for the refreshed room when booking (Already mentioned but foot-stomping as important), 2. It is a 20-25 minute walk to historic town, and 2 minute walk to the metro for transit to / from the airport (12 minute walk from rail station). Take the metro direct to airport, two Euro per person and 27 minutes, so easy, 3. Walk to "The Florence Irish Pub" (5-6 minutes). If you need a break from Italian food - the wings, burgers, pints, service, vibe and music are all 10 stars. Finally, 4, If you advance book there may be an option to prepurchase the breakfast each day - we did that, at 7 euro per day per person which I found to be a valuable price point and definitely worth it. I do believe absent prebooking the breakfast it is around 15 Euro per person per day, which I would have likely passed on and eaten in town. My one suggestions and this is on the margins - they need more steamers / irons. Believe there was only one for all guests and you may have to wait if another guest is using it....would love to see one in each room, especially the refreshed rooms. Bottom line, strongly recommend, we would stay again and thank you Hotel La Fortezza!

It was built in the 6th century AD by the Byzantines as part of the "newer" city walls to augment the older Roman ones and protect the city during the Gothic War. The circular shape, which was rare in the Middle Ages, reflects ancient Roman building techniques. The tower rests on a circular wall that surrounded a swimming pool or Roman thermal bath. In the basement there is a calidarium, with brick floor channels for heat, which would have been used for steam baths. According to our guide, Roberta, it was used as a women's prison in the 12th century. Pagliazza references the straw mat bedding upon which the inmates slept. Later on, it was converted into the bell tower of a church. Eventually it was acquired as a private residence. Today it is home to a luxury hotel with a small museum and restaurants. The museum showcases artifacts from excavations dating back to the Roman and medieval times. Although we didn't stay here, the history of the Pagliazza Tower is very interesting.

Checking in was easy with an accommodating staff. The rooms are nice, but not fabulous, The elevator system confuses everyone! The breakfast (complementary for us) was quite good. While the location is fabulous and the staff quite nice, I expected a slightly nicer room for the price, but as they say, location, location, location.

The hotel was centrally located, and it's one of the more modern, elegant hotels we've stayed at during our trip. The Duomo and Piazza Santa Maria Novella were steps away from the hotel, and it's a less than 10 minute taxi to the train station. Their complimentary breakfast was amazing. They offered a huge variety of items including hot food, tortes, cereals, fruit, cheeses, parfaits, quiches, etc. I enjoyed a latte every morning with them. Our room at Hotel Spadai was excellent. Very spacious with tall ceilings and had plenty of room for us to lay out 2 large pieces of luggage and 2 small carry-ons. The bathroom was big as well, but the shower was disproportionate to it. The shower felt so much smaller, and what's weird was its two double doors. The doors met at the corner of the shower and didn't close all the way, so water could easily escape to the floor. Other than that, I would 1000% stay at this hotel again next time I'm in Florence.
