Honestly, their social media team is SO bad, we almost did not book here because so many other…read moreplaces nearby had stunning pictures of rooms, the grounds, etc. which looked a LOT better! Coquillade's seemed to hype DJ nights and restaurant menus. (Ironically, The only part of our stay we didn't enjoy was the restaurants ... and thankfully there were no DJs/dance parties while we were there!!) We looked at Airelles Bastide in Gordes and Crillion la Brave in Vaucluse ... we weren't blown away by either of the rooms and for our stay, the dates were not available. We stumbled upon an article in a travel magazine, which stated this was one of France's top resorts and despite not much information to go on ... we booked it. Long story short ... great decision! It was a highlight of our trip. Before getting into the specifics ... I will just say that while we were there, it just felt like home. We only had 3 days, but by the second day, the staff knew us by name and we felt that we could wander around the property freely, which we loved. There are walking trails which lead you past lavender lined walkways, fields of clover, vegetable gardens and unspoiled hills and forest. While we HATED the lobby (it felt like a high end golf club ... or conference center hotel) and did not love any of the restaurants ... the room was fantastic and cozy. There is not much to do around this hotel. In Provence, literally everything closes at 9 p.m. It is impossible finding something to eat at 10 p.m. and after 9 or 10 ... there really is nothing to do at this resort. The pool is closed, it feels like a ghost town ... luckily the rooms are great. We were upgraded to a suite and were in love! So much space to spread out ... a beautiful bathroom with dual vanity, separate tub and a steam shower. The bed was comfy and there was a small patio overlooking the vineyard. I am a cigar smoker and loved this view. We also had a big window, floor to ceiling, which opened and each morning we laid in bed and looked out over the winery and tall pointy trees. Each day, sweets and treats were left for us ... bignets, candied oranges and our mini-bar was stocked each day with waters, local beer and little jars of nuts ... all of this was included in the room cost. A very underrated feature ... unlike tye US, there was no resort fee! The breakfasts were amazing, and also included! Relais y Chateau properties focus on local foods ... much of the fruit, vegetables and honey were grown on property. The cheese plate was amazing! And they had a hot egg station, sausage and anything you could want for breakfast (except for Mimosas). While you are basically in the middle of farmland, it's a 15-30 minute drive to some great towns. Of course Gordes gets all the glory being ranked one of the most picturesque towns in the world. (We found it overrated.) Rossillion was our favorite town nearby. Its an instgram dream. We did not see Lacoste which is also nearby ... but the concierge recommended a few great, local restaurants. One was a roof deck restaurant, which was very cool. The other was Clover Gordes ... very expensive and fancy but essential for the Provence experience. Onsite, we had 2 dinners ... mostly because it was far to drive elsewhere at night. Both were average at best ... and expensive, although not shockingly so. The restaurants need work here ... thai and Italian at a French resort. Blah. We did have pizza at the pool one day, which I will admit was good Neopolitan style pizza. The pool was super warm ... although a bit crowded. It was huge though, most other resorts feature narrow pools for dipping ... this one seemed more for recreation. The landscaping is breathtaking here. All the gardeners deserve a raise. Hedges of wonderful smelling jasmine ... flowers ... and of course the lavender hedges. We were not there for the flowering but even so, we snapped a little bud off here and there to smell before we went to bed at night. The rows look wonderful with the tall, pointy green trees. The only downside to the grounds is its a bit hard to relax in the room in the morning/afternoon because there are lots of hedge trimmer, leaf blower and other machinery sounds as the groundskeeping staff keeps the property looking beautiful. Overall, we loved our stay. 5-stars and then some. Even though nights were boring, we could have stayed an entire week. It felt like home. Driving or biking, know that you will need to take some day trips ... but losing yourself in the French countryside is what this place is all about. If you want to be more in the action/closer to town, maybe Arielles Resort in Gordes would be better for you. However, if we were to return to the area, we would stay here again!

First they kindly greeted us upon arrival with upgrading us to one of their junior suites with a view overlooking the vineyard and French countryside. It's made up of three majestic mountain ranges, with hilltop villages and hiking trails and farmland throughout. It's no wonder that L'Auberge's free wifi account is named "Enjoy Nature Instead". If you want to explore the region in an appropriately rustic way, but still enjoy all the luxuries of French life (rich food, cheap wine, running water) L'Auberge des Seguins is the perfect home base. It's a converted farm, nestled in the valley beneath towering cliffs, with old stone cottages coverted into "hotel" rooms. Since you are in the middle of nowhere, breakfast & dinner are included in the room rate: 130 euros for 2 people. An amazing deal. There's a pool on site, hiking trails that literally leave steps from your room, a "Buvette" (bar) on site, and a big house that is now the main dining area & kitchen. It has a covered patio, where you'll sip local wines, and enjoy healthy-ish meals like whole trout & quinoa, bay-leaf wrapped goat cheese, and ratatouille. There are all kinds of tourists here: French, German, American, Dutch. Most of them are the serious outdoorsy types, hitting the road early for a hike, then congregating around the table for dinner time. Come here to explore, indulge, and re-engergize. It's France like very few people see it, and now...it's on Yelp!

This small hotel has only a handful of two-floor units, each its own structure that blends old world exteriors with modern design elements inside. The only snafu the entire time was a dinner that went on for hours and hours and we thought we were just being impatient Americans, but they apologized to us for how long it was taking and to other tables around us. When we arrived we had not just a small fruit plate, but a huge overflowing basket of the ripest tastiest fruit I have ever had, all grown on the property. You must make time to enjoy a massage here in a small hut on the property, to wander around and greet the chickens, check out the gardens and lay by the infinity pool. We chose this hotel because it is in a good, central location from which to explore the Luberon…read moreregion and because it lies a little outside of the village, so driving there and parking is easier. Plus, it just looked pretty in the photos! We were very happy here, although there were a few little kinks. The main problem is that it is hard to find. The address they gave us would not compute for our GPS, so we input the GPS coordinates they provided instead. Those coordinates directed us up the hill and straight into the center of the village...exactly what we were trying to avoid. When we called to get directions, the woman we spoke to did not speak enough English to help us. If you get lucky you will come across one of the signs they have posted and can follow those to the hotel. Once you find it, though, it is a lovely place...just as pretty as expected. We were there in July, and so much lavender was in bloom that everything smelled like soap...wonderful. The property backs up to some ochre cliffs, so you can have yourself a little hike right from your room. The rooms are minimally decorated, but very spacious and comfortable. Parking is on-site and easy. Wi-fi is strong. Breakfast is not included in the price, but it was really delicious, and I strongly recommend you eat there if you need a good breakfast in the morning, as there aren't many better options in the village. We had one dinner at their restaurant, and it was very nice, although in the case of dinner, there are, actually, many better options in the area. Overall this is a lovely and affordable hotel, and we were very happy with it.

Let me establish a context for this review. We have eaten at some of the best restaurants in France…read more(e.g., Jamin, L'Esperance) as well as North America (e.g., The Maisonette, Charley Trotter's, Truffle, Silk). We do not think of ourselves as food snobs BUT we do appreciate quality ingredients that are carefully prepared. Now for our story. We arrived in Provence the evening of October 2, 2019 tired and hungry. We found this restaurant and the menu looked intriguing. Not many items (4-5 appetizers, 4-5 main courses, 4-5 desserts). We decided to give it a try, knowing that posted menu items can be delightful or mundane, depending on the care and quality of the chef. It would be an understatement to say that we were blown away. We were so impressed that we made reservations to return on October 8 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The meal, yet again, was absolutely incredible. We ordered a more expensive tasting menu as we wanted a cheese course. We thought that meant choosing one of the options on the menu. However, that was not the case. The chef-owner asked if we had any food allergies or aversions and then went back and prepared food that was not on the menu. Including a couple of courses above and beyond the tasting menu we ordered. In two nights, we had nine courses. Each course was lovingly prepared with fresh, high quality ingredients. While I cannot single out a course that was head and shoulders above the others, that is because all of them were exquisite. Personally, I loved the smoked salmon appetizer as well as the zucchini palate teaser. A special dessert cake for our second trip also was to die for. In my opinion, while the menu options are small, the quality of the preparation makes this place a very affordable alternative to some of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Should we find ourselves back in Apt, we definitely will dine there again.
