I am ecstatic that Yelp has arrived in Mexico!…read more For my first Mexico review, I want to write about my favorite place to stay - anywhere in the world - and that is Hotel Mansion del Cupatitzio. We've stayed here four times now, immensely enjoying each visit. The first time, in 2000, was supposed to be a quick one-night stay, and was based on a recommendation we received from some guy standing outside an Oxxo gas station in Uruapan, as we were on our way to Lake Pátzcuaro and Morelia. We loved this Garden of Eden setting so much, (Cupatitzio is located next to the verdant Eduardo Ruiz National Park), that we ended up staying here for three days. JP had to practically drag me out of here kicking and screaming. I did not want to leave. At an elevation of 5,310 feet, Uruapan, Michoacan has a delightful climate, with lots of sunshine, low humidity and is never hot. Even in the rainy season (May through October) there's still abundant sunshine with the afternoon thundershowers rather brief. Rooms are clean, comfortable, modern and inexpensive. Parking at the hotel is easy and abundant. The grounds are beautifully maintained, graced with a pristine pool. The hotel restaurant is top notch with delicious and excellently prepared dishes. You will be wowed by the service at the restaurant, with all sorts of formally-dressed staff fussing over every one of your needs. A self-serve laundry and gym are on the premises. But the best part of staying at Cuaptitzio are the jilguerillo birds they keep in cages on the second floor. These birds have the most magical charming call that starts low and trills up the octave. I love this hotel, and can't wait to return for a little R&R!

It's close enough to downtown yet far enough to be have a peaceful and quiet stay. It's in close proximity to the zoo and they have a wonderful restaurant on site as well (not included with the stay) but they do have delicious food. The check in process was easy and smooth, the receptionist was friendly and efficient. They offer free parking on site and valet is also very friendly. I love the details of the hotel. All of the bricks through out the property give it the authentic Mexico feel. As you walk along the property you can also notice designs within the brick walls, it's those nice touches and attention to detail that makes this hotel inviting. As soon as we entered our room the bedding and design throughout the room along with the beautiful brick fireplace make it feel like home. The room was very clean and the placement of the table was right next to window, perfect placement to sit and enjoy your coffee. The size of the room was perfect for my family. The walk in shower is a good size and the bedding is comfortable for a good night sleep. I'm looking forward to staying here again on another visit.

(Valet is your only option unless you park off the property and down the road.) The grounds... Just amazing. Well, kept, groomed, tranquil, quiet and beautiful. Just look at the pictures as my writing skills are not as amazing as the photos. Immediately greeted by a maître d' and seated promptly. The restaurant was simply decorated finely, the tables set beautifully, music playing at the right level and a quiet place in general. The wait staff was attentive, unintrusive and always available. Our head waiter, Julio was just perfect. The meal was tasty, coffee delicious, the juices fresh made in house. Everyone in my group raved about their meal and I sampled each of them and raved just the same. The coffee was rich and dark served with natural sugar, substitutes and milk. Prices were good, especially for this type of restaurant. The bill for 5 of us, all with drinks and some with appetizers was just about $700 (pesos) with worked out to about $10 (American) per person. With tips, we were about $15 a person. No where in the states could you get that kind of service for 3 times that money. The view here, since it is on top of a plateau looking over Morelia, was just breath taking. (Again, see the photos.) Out door seating with that view was available as well as the indoor seating. There was a grand piano inside the restaurant, so I'm guessing at times they have live music. Also, they have a buffet on Sunday morning that I hope I can experience next visit. Also, as beautiful as the hotel was, I plan on not just eating here, but staying here for my next visit. I will update my review on the hotel when I do, but I'm positive that it will be more of the same 5 star rave. I felt like a million dollars here. I felt pampered and left feeling refreshed, full, satisfied and amazed.
