Comfort - Rock hard mattress that left me in pain by the morning. Useless, squishy pillows (I hate that, at least when there is no other option). Air-conditioning keeps the room cooler than outside (July with 85+ and humidity) but honestly didn't cool enough to be comfortable. Laying on a hard mattress sweating isn't the best recipe for a good nights sleep. Get better mattresses and much better A/C! Staff - Smiling, attentive, helpful and charming every one! Amenities - Great breakfast from 7am-11am just off the lobby. Restaurant/cafe/bar attacked to hotel proved convenient. Rooftop terrace provides an interesting view over the Venice rooftops. Two tiny elevators are insufficient for this building, frustrating. Access to the canal at the back of the hotel was handy when getting a water-taxi to the airport early morning. Value - To enjoy a vacation I like my home base to be comfortable, and this hotel wasn't, at least in the actual room. The mattress and A/C sucked, and that why the low value rating overall. Think climate change, and wether tourists want to be comfortable and cool during their stay so they'll return maybe? read more

So happy I booked this hotel. I searched through AmEx travel and booked through them, without any contact to the hotel until my arrival. What a charming and cozy place! In an excellent location nearby St. Marks, the Saturnia seemed to very central. I covered most of Venice in three days on foot, and spent a day on the water taxis exploring the smaller islands. My room was a double deluxe, with large bed and leather sofa. The exposed wood ceilings and marble touches combine so nicely for a cozy and authentic feel. The bathroom was spectacular with both a shower and large soaking tub! Included as well were two terry cloth robes and slippers (though I brought my own!). The room was complete with my own private terrace for afternoon glass of wine. The morning breakfast (included) was a delicious spread of usual Italian pastries, as well as more tradition American breakfast foods like eggs and cold cuts. I saved the "make you own waffle" for my last morning, and I'm glad I did! So delicious, and so filling! The restaurant is super cute, as if you've entered into a boat! The menu is mainly seafood (keeping with the traditional Venetian cuisine), but there were a few non fish choices. Try the apple fritters for desert - out of this world! The wait and bar staff were all very friendly and courteous; they will even open any wine bottles you bring back to the hotel. The hotel staff was all very helpful and accommodating, happy to help in any way. I tried hard to practice my Italian and speak as much as I could, but they all speak excellent English as well! I could not have asked for a better place to stay! One downfall: very thin walls and windows! My room was on the front of the building - although the outside quiets down after 8pm and foot traffic doesn't start bustling until around 8am, there was vacuuming and other work being done in the stores across the way that was a bit of a nuisance. In addition, there was construction work going on in the back, off the terrace. Not anything to loud, but just be aware - you can hear noises! I would definitely stay here again on my next trip! read more

Great hotel to end our European vacation! Came at the end of the season so the tides and rain were an issue. The staff was super helpful with advice on what to do and where to go with the flodded streets. Had an awesome breakfast provided by the hotel. (Buffet) We also frequented the bar downstairs. Amazing experience! If you want the rustic feel of Venezia this is the Hotel you want. Alberto at the front desk (at least in February/March of 2014) is wonderful! They are the only Hotel we found during our stay in Italy that would exchange money at the actual exchange rate! No Fee's... No extra anything. They are currently renovating and having a local Venizia glass company do all their lighting and chandeliers, because of this they offered us a free half day tour of the facility. DO THIS!!! Taxi there and back is free, and it is GREAT! I've seen glass blowers before at renaissance festivals and other events (some museums put on exhibitions), this makes them all look like they should never even drink out of a glass let alone try to blow one. The continental breakfast (if your package includes it) is outstanding and the best we had in 3 cities in Italy over our 2 week trip. The have everything you could ever want and more, and it is all worth the experience. I literally cannot say enough great things about this Hotel. They are unbelievable, and we've already planned to return in 2 years and stay here again. YES, it's that good! I don't recall exactly what our room rate was because we booked everything through Costco, but I know it was worth it. read more

Great location. Small boutique hotel with a TON of character and a rooftop terrace with some amazing views! The breakfast in the morning had plenty of fresh fruit and pastries. The staff is incredible. They even called us the night before our departure, told us about a transportation strike the next day and arranged a water taxi for us to get to the train station. Found this place on accident which ended up being a huge blessing for us!!!! From the moment you walk in to Saturnia you feel like family. The only way you get this kind of feeling is from a family ran business. The concierge had all the rift answers for every question we had. If we asked for a restaurant, he had a great recommendation, we needed directions, he made finding what we were looking for, a breeze. On top of all the answers and great recommendations he had an amazing ability to make people laugh. It's been a while since I was in a hotel with a great concierge. The room had a wonderful bath tub that was perfect for long walking days around Venice. Beds were typical for Europe but not uncomfortable. High ceilings and great decor made our stay that much Better. I would recommend this place to my best friend and my folks. This review is a long time coming. We arrived at the tail end of our Euro travel. The location is great, near San Marco square and all the trendy shops. Upon check in, we were kindly greeted, given a large key and guided to our room by this Giant of a man. He struggled to take our large luggages up to our room so I offered to help and off we went. A quick elevator ride up and we were on our floor. The floor led to what appeared to be a common area. There was coffee and a few dirty dishes off the side. A few couches where a family or two spoke their native tongue and quickly quieted down as we approached. The Giant opened our door and we were there. He handed me back my giant key and I tipped him and sent him back to the Giant kingdom. When we took a tour of our room, we noticed that it was two stories. The upstairs room was like a "tv room with only a sofa, tv and lamp". We never used it. The main room had large windows that opened up to the canals. We were delighted to hear the men singing while navigating their gondolas through the small canals. The singing was a bit angelic in a way and pumped us up. Our bed was firm and not the most comfortable. The pillows were pretty rock hard. We may have experienced a few bug bites but I'm not sure if maybe a mosquito or ten got in our room somehow. The AC hardly worked and the room was always stuffy. When I checked out at around 4AM, I woke up the front desk person. He made a loud grunt noise like he was startled. When he checked me out he said, you owe me! I told him yes, I know, for the bottle of moet that I drank from the fridge. I gave him my money and I was on my way home. Venice was a bit boring for me. Some cool things to see but not my favorite of places to go in Italy. read more

We needed a hotel that was reasonably priced, with decent reviews, and good location for a family of 6 (3 adults and 3 kids). I came across this hotel approx 2-3 weeks prior to arrival. It was decently priced so we went for it. I have nothing to compare it with in Venice since this was our first time. But I think it was pretty great for our family. HOtel/Location- It is located a short walk from the famous St. Mark square. I wouldn't recommend walking from the St. Lucia train station. We did it and it took close to 40 mins (we did get lost) and I can't imagine doing it with luggage. The beautiful part is that the hotel has its own dock, so if you want to spring for a private taxi (approx 100 euros) from the train station, it will take you right to the hotel steps. It was approx 30-40mins via private taxi to airport (155 euros). IF you take the water taxi, it will drop you off a short walk with maybe 2-3 brideges to cross. The hotel is a tad old and outdated, but that is most of venice. You are located in a very high end shopping area (ie chanel, YSL, Burberry, and D&G. Not a lot of eateries near by, you have to walk approx 5-10 mins. There is a Gondola pickup stop right around the corner. The hotel itself has a historic charm to it. There is a small lobby area. There are 2 lifts. We never had to wait too long for them. Rooms/Amenities- We ended up getting 2 rooms. the King room was a decent size with built in desk and chairs. There is a closet area and a decent size bathroom. The Quad room was like a mini suite. There were 2 twin beds in the main room. No chairs but a small coffee table. The other room had a queen bed. You can close a door to separate the two rooms. There was a good size bathroom with separate toilet and shower. The shower was a fantastic waterfall shower, but had no shower curtain or door. The beds were on the harder side, but ok. I wished they gave more than 1 pillow for the twin beds. The AC didn't seem to be working well. But weather was nice and we were able to open the windows. Not sure how it would be in the summer. There were some noises coming from outside but otherwise fairly quiet. There were ample plugs but no USB charging area. The wifi was fair throughout the property. There was a safe. If you wanted coffee, you take your mug and walk outside to a small coffee station area. Service: Fantastic throughout. From being greeted at the dock to the fast check in, everything was great. Everyone was friendly including Giovanni at the concierge desk. He even arranged a free trip to Murano Island (glass blowers) that was fantastic. It was truly free with no obligation to buy. Probably one of our highlights of Venice. We loved the free breakfast each morning. Quite a nice spread, but bear in mind that it is the same spread each morning. Scramble eggs, bacon, and sausage were there. Bacon does run out around 9:30am. Loved the waffle bar. Service was great. It does get busy between 7-8am. I also loved the fact that you have a fantastic restaurant in the hotel (see separate review). All in all, a truly great stay at this hotel. I would recommend it for families. read more

Amazing hotel. We booked a tour but they had us staying on the mainland. We decided to blow off our "tour" hotel and find a place closer into the center of town. As soon as we arrived our host made it abundantly apparent that our time in Venice/Venzia was going to be special. He gave us the lay of the land including that the area we were in was central but very touristy. He showed us places to explore to get a better feel for local Venice. The hotel itself is stunning. Think renaissance era wood beams and original oil paintings on the wall. Murano blown glass chandeliers in every major room. The room itself was a lovely retreat, firm bed, nice granite lined bathroom, and a little table for doing some work. Breakfast was included with our room. We travel a lot through Europe and have gotten use to little containers of yogurt and boiled eggs. The breakfast was palatial. Beautiful yogurt, huge offerings of fresh fruit, incredible meats and cheeses, and the largest pastry table I have ever seen during my travels. And my personal American favorite is that the staff brought me two double espressos no questions. Being from Seattle I am use to stronger coffee and I think they could sense that one espresso was not going to get me going. Every evening we would start or end our evening at the bar downstairs. The bartender was so nice and immediately recognized us on our second visit. The cocktails are sweeter than my personal favorite but they do have a large selection of higher end booze. And last but not least the service is amazing. We missed our train the morning we were suppose to leave because we spent to much time lounging in the breakfast room. The host called to see if we could rebook our train, helped to map our way to the water bus, and get us going to our next destination. Rooms were nice and moderns, relative to Venice (please don't compare to five stars in the US). Hotel has probably gone thru extensive remodeling recently. We went to Rome, Florence, Siena, and Venice. This was my least favorite hotel. It was dark, old, dated, staff not as friendly as other hotels. Definitely needs an upgrade. Also there was a loud fan noise coming from our room that woke me up, not sure what it was, it sounded like someone drilling something. Definitely not worth the price. They also made me share a table during breakfast even though there were plenty of other tables available. Breakfast is my alone time, I don't want to share it with a random couple, I'm sure they felt the same way. Specially paying over $400 a night I expect to sit at my own table at breakfast. I asked if I could move to a two top instead and no one helped me move and they all gave me rude looks. Just not a pleasant experience here. I wouldn't stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it. Hotel Saturnia and International was our last stop on our Italian Honeymoon excursion. We were so pleased with the location and ambiance of the hotel. Venice and the hotel Saturnia took our breath away. It has an old world charm to it with five star quality in room dining (some of the best lobster pasta I have ever had). One of my favorite parts of the hotel was the maze like layout that eventually leads to a roof top deck where you get a great view of the city. It was in an ideal location for our daily excursions, right in the middle of everything. I would definitely recommend this hotel to future travelers and hope we are able to go back someday. read more

This was the last stop on our honeymoon. The hotel has a great "old" feel and is close to many of the tourist spots - like St Marks Square. You have to return your room key each time you leave the hotel and pick it up whenever you come back, which isn't nearly as annoying as it sounds. Actually a good idea, so that they're not lost. The room itself... Seemed dark, and was very hot. We asked the hotel staff about the air conditioning we were supposed to have, well apparently they turn it off after September? So we had to keep the window open the entire time we were there. The the furniture /decor was dated and didn't seem entirely clean. The bed & pillows... Not comfortable. The bathroom just didn't "feel" clean and the bathtub was so darn tall, short people like myself have a heck of a time getting in and out. Not too mention water leaks from the shower/tub when you shower. The staff seemed friendly enough. The staff person who carried our luggage upstairs upon our arrival and down to the water taxi was very nice. Overall the hotel just didn't do it for me, but it wasn't terrible. Cannot agree with the glowing reviews. Our experience has been much different. This used to be such a charming place with truly old world service. But it's been destroyed ( by greed ?) since our last stay many years ago. Problems began even before check in. A simple DM went ignored for over a day, then an answer finally came that I would have to email the concierge. Why not just pass my request along to them ? When we checked in they showed us several terrible tiny rooms with fire escape view. They were also very unfriendly, barking at each other behind the desk. We finally settled on one but are inundated with construction noise. The bed is almost as hard as the cement pillows. Breakfast is a completely inedible disaster- better to go to a bar and slurp down a coffee. The place is family owned, and the heirs obviously have prioritized personal gain over guest comfort. We would never stay here again, with so many wonderful 4 star properties ( this one feels more like 3 stars/ no room service, turndown service etc. Very basic ). Feels like a bus tour hotel. read more

The Saturnia hotel is very centrally located to shopping and Saint Mark's Square. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. The gentlemen at the reception area makes great food recommendations. The hotel bar has some great drinks, my gf liked the Rossini (a strawberry purée with champagne). The only negatives with the hotel is the comfort of the beds, pretty stiff for my liking, and it is difficult to control the temperature in your room. read more

We can't say enough good things about this hotel. The staff was amazing and so helpful, over the top! We had a room for the disabled (husband). We loved the old feel of the hotel. This hotel was perfect for us. We found the bed very comfortable, the bathroom which was equipped for the disabled to be great. The location was great and to get to many locations just required going over one bridge which was also good for my husband. We could walk to St Mark's, with a walker for my husband. We also were pretty close to a boat to take us all around the main canals which is a must in Venice. The staff made arrangements to meet us at the dock when we arrived from the train station and had a private taxi pick us up at the hotel upon departure.They also arranged for a wonderful guide at the train station when we arrived to get us to the boat as well as when we departed for the train station. We would definitely stay here again. The breakfasts were identical to the other hotels we stayed at in Italy. A fairly good selection. It was interesting to speak to other guests during our stay from all over the world. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how helpful everyone was with my husband. Also have to mention if traveling with a disabled person notify the train stations, they have outstanding help if one is disabled. read more
