The Gritti Palace is absolutely incredible! First off, the tiramisu was iconic--a perfect 10/10. I was torn on what dessert to get, and the waiter recommended it. I'm so glad I listened. The rich cocoa flavor was everything you want in a tiramisu. While I went to the restroom, I noticed the photos on the walls of famous guests who have stayed there... so cool. The entire hotel and restaurant are beautifully designed, with an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and welcoming. I also had the vegetarian pasta, and it was phenomenal. Cooked perfectly al dente.. just flawless. And the views? Stunning. This place is absolutely the spot for a memorable lunch. read more

Probably the most iconic hotel in Venice. Well preserved piece of history, definitely a step up from the generic st Regis in Venice. The floral arrangements and details are what makes this place shine. Splurge for a night so you too can feel the identity and grandeur of this iconic establishment. Perhaps you will share a room with Charlie chaplain. You've got to have a meal at club del doge, from the wall paper to the views everything is beautiful. The Terrace Restaurant at Gritti Palace, Venice This lovely, posh, outdoor terrace restaurant, situated on the grand canal in Venice (what more could you ask for?) serves excellent food and wine by a polished and accommodating staff. The view is beautiful, and the terrace offers the perfect, outdoor, upscale, Venetian ambiance. We started with the garden tomato salad, which was good. The pasta with lobster was very fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sea bass was also very fresh, and gently seasoned to accentuate the freshness of the fish. It was delectable. The veal Milanese was good. The server's recommendation of wine was "spot on" and beautifully suited for our meal. Dining at the Gritti Palace Terrace is A MUST when you are in Venice. Is this restaurant pricey, YES, but the impeccable service, delicious food and unsurpassed view make it worth every euro! While the location and views are great here, we didn't necessarily have the best experience overall. This was our last stop before my finance and I (unbeknownst to me) got engaged. It was meant to be a beautiful spot to grab a drink on the water and set the tone for the big moment. Unfortunately we got rushed through our visit because they were upset that we didn't order food. My finance booked a spot outside on the patio and said we just wanted to grab a couple of drinks, which they said was fine and took the reservation. Once we actually ordered the drinks at the table they informed us that we need to order food to sit outside (we were never told this before that moment), after pushing back a little and saying it's unreasonable to make us move inside after we already ordered and we knew we'd be fairly quick, we received subpar service the rest of the time. It was clear our presence wasn't wanted so we ignored the rude behavior of the staff and enjoyed our moment together. Overall I would describe this place as a massive tourist trap, but it's to be expected. Also - the only place in Italy where you can enjoy a 27€ aperol spritz! Insane prices and they ask for a tip at the end. I'm only giving more than 1 star for the view. read more

We visited this hotel a few times while here. My travel agent highly recommended it as one of the top and most luxurious hotels in Venice while here on our honeymoon. We elected to stay at the nearby Danieli because I liked the historic lobby and bar area better and wanted to go for their location which is directly beside the San Marco square. Staff inside are a bit snobbish if you aren't a guest and the guy at the counter when I asked where the bar was was downright dismissive and rude. I didn't like that. This is something you tend to encounter at expensive hotels where they assume if you aren't a guest you're trash. I didn't like it but I'm willing to not hold it too much against them.... for one person. Their lobby is smaller and more compact and they did not have as large of a bar area as the Danieli but they do have a beautiful outdoor terrace directly on the water where you can have lunch or drinks and then a larger and more fine-dining spot for dinner which we returned to the second night. Staff at both these spots were fantastic. Friendly and helpful and no hint of snobbery. read more

Our 3 night stay here was everything one might imagine from a fairy tale. The Gritti Palace had been a bucket list item for us so when my husband & I started planning our long European vacation last year - it included Venice & that had to include - The Gritti! There is NOT one thing that was not perfect. We had an amazing 850 sq. ft. Serenissima suite that overlooked the canal & the inner street. The suite itself was like stepping back a century with the most ornate furnishings; Persian rugs & high end luxury linens. We had a large bathroom &another half bath with Aqua di Parma products. A full living area-a wet bar. There is a turndown service nightly with Sisley products over chocolate on the pillow &slippers at your bedside. The Gritti Palace dates back to 1475 & is dripping in palatial history & so many pieces of renaissance art at every turn. The onetime home to the most powerful Doge : Andrea Gritti. An escape to many celebs, The Gritti is known as one of the top hotels in the world. The Bar Longhi as well as the seating areas are all very Venetian ornate and super fancy; a wonderful place to take high tea or a drink where the service is also amazing. We arrived by train from Milan & were met by a private water taxi with Prosecco for our private romantic boat ride in. Arriving this way is just part of the experience. We also departed the same way for our next destination in Italy. Our room was not ready when we arrived at The Gritti, but we could not be upset about it while we finished our Prosecco on the canal with olives , chips and hazelnuts at The Riva Lounge which is a favorite place to take in people watching - canal watching - the sunset - the gondolas passing by & the bells of the Basilica. I highly recommend taking dinner in Club Del Doge while here for a truly high end dining experience; where Dom Perignon is served by the glass if you wish. The food is beyond par as is the service. Breakfast here is served on the Terrace & can be tight but is nice and well worth it - bring a scarf or jacket as it can be chilly in the mornings of spring. The concierge is very helpful in setting up nearby dinner reservations or private tours of things in Venice or nearby. There is also a cooking school on property and wine tasting , as well. A Sisley Spa , as well. We can not wait to come back and be spoiled again someday as not only is Venice a place of romance - The Gritti Palace is the perfect setting for making that even more special. The Gritti (Greedy) Palace is a joke of a Marriott property. Before arrival, I used the 'chat' feature on the Marriott app and it took 7 hours for the hotel to respond. The first response was that I should be emailing them. First, why does Marriott have a chat feature on their app if I should be using email? Secondly, how in the world was I supposed to know their email address as I have never stayed there before? They charged me €420 for transportation from the Venice airport to the hotel for something I could have done on my own for €20. Their lack of response to my chat questions directly led to this as I didn't get the answer until 1 hour before landing. Feels like the lack of communication was purposeful to force me into this ripoff. They charged me €22 for a 23KG suitcase but €88 for a 20KG wheelchair. 4 times as much for my wheelchair that was smaller and lighter than my suitcase. They are preying on and abusing handicapped people. They also recommended a restaurant, that we used and bought a 24 hour water taxi ticket as they suggested. Once we finished dinner, there were no water taxis back to the hotel. We waited for 1.5 hours until they finally arranged a water taxi to return to the hotel from the restaurant they recommended. They charged me €60 for that, despite buying the 24 hour pass as they suggested. The Gritti Palace looks good in the pictures but is a ripoff and a disaster in real life. Avoid this hotel when in Venice. There are many better options like the Cipriani, The Daniele, or the St Regis. The lowest point was them abusing a handicapped person financially by charging me four times the price for my wheelchair than a larger and heavier suitcase. Lara was a caring and empathetic employee who did everything possible to fix these problems. She was awesome and I thank her for her help. She also introduced me to manager Pedro Perestrelo who did issue a partial credit. Even after the credit and the kindness of these two employees, we still felt bitter about the overall experience. read more

Returned to Gritti Palace post the historic flood and it looked amazing. The hotel retained the same amazing staff. The beautiful rugs and antiques that were caught in the flood were restored. I wanted to share this beautiful hotel with my girls and it exceeded all of our expectations. The location, property, food and most importantly, the people are exceptionally beautiful and kind. Good location and lovely rooms. Unfortunately, the gym is closet-sized, which is unacceptable given the price. The shower temp would not heat higher than lukewarm. The hotel bar service is begrudging--we were told initially not to order food because of a private party on the veranda, which is absurd given that we are guests. Lunch at this elegant hotel's Gritti Terrace is worth a pretty penny. However, the grand ambiance and outdoor Grand Canal seating views are certainly enchanting. Expect slow, pretentious service. The 'grandiose' burger and salad that I ordered from here were flavorsome and I could taste the high quality ingredients, but the dishes weren't mind blowing enough to make me drop my panties or anything. The Gritti Palace is one of the better hotels in Venice, not only because of the venue but also because of the location. Centrally located a within walking distance of the Piazza San Marco you cannot go wrong as far as location is concerned. The hotel itself is as are so many hotels an old Palace and the interior exemplifies this. The room was quite large by European standards, but then I would hope so for the price. It was lavishly decorated with antiques and the bathroom was also well stocked with Acqua di Parma products. Overall a very pleasant place to stay when spending time in Venice. read more

Honestly, I didn't have high hopes because I'd heard that Venice hotels were on the shabby-chic side, and we much prefer a modern style. But we were pleasantly surprised by our stay. The Gritti was more than we imagined. My partner and I stayed here for a short mini-moon after getting married and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel for our first trip to Venice. I've been to Venice twice and been here to eat both times. The service is impeccable and the views are unmatched. I absolutely love this place. Our trip a few weeks ago was partially a birthday celebration for me and we enjoyed a long lunch on the terrace. I would highly recommend the Salmon Tartare, Fusillotti and the Spinosini. My Spinosini was so perfectly done. It was really hot out that day and I was sitting in direct sunlight but this pasta was so light and flavorful. The hint of lemon was so refreshing. I'm dreaming about it now! I mentioned we were celebrating my birthday and the staff presented me with a Mille Feuille which was so, so, so good. Cannot wait to go back! read more

Take a look at the positive reviews of the Hotel Gritti Palace, and you will notice that not a single visible minority has rated it highly. Having just returned from a stay there for 5 nights, I can explain why. On our stay, I often was in the entrance foyer waiting for my wife. She's slow to get ready - she literally will take 30 minutes to "freshen up." Instead of sitting in the room watching TV, I waited for her downstairs and got to people watch. What I saw was disgusting. Venice is hot during the summer, so sometimes tourists come into the lobby to cool off in the AC. I realized that whenever a White family came in to cool off, the security/concierge staff let them be. However, if a Black family, or an Asian family, or a Latino family came in, they immediately asked them for their room key. By the 3rd day of our trip, I wanted to test out whether this was true. My wife (who is Black) walked in ahead of us when we got back to the hotel one night, and stood by the front door. Within 30 seconds, hotel staff came to ask her to show her a room key. A few minutes later, I walked in and stood at the door. Despite being Latino, I'm White enough looking that I can easily pass. I stood there for 5 minutes, and no one gave me a second look. I asked the manager on duty about their policy and in his broken Italian/English, essentially confirmed that it was up to the staff's discretion to determine who was likely to be a guest and who was not. Racism is prevalent in Italy, and was a massive problem at this supposedly classy hotel. read more

This place is way over priced. I'm a Platinum member with Marriott and thought this was a safe bet at $1,200 US Dollars per night. The 1,400 Euro Riva Speed boat tour was a joke! They took us to a 1.5 hour glass blowing sales presentation in Murano that was like going into an IKEA store. You cannot exit. I was upset that they dictated 1.5 hours of my 4 hour paid time. They should have asked me first. My glass of wine has to be empty for 20 minutes before I can chase down a server for a refill. This place doesn't know what 5 star is. Many 5 star hotels around for half the price per night. We had a 3 hour guided tour with a water taxi they insisted we still do even though it was raining and 20 MPH winds. No 5 star star hotel treats their guests like this with a 50% cancellation fee. I asked concierge in morning if weather would cancel since my app said 50% chance of rain. He says "It's not going to rain!" This place has a total disregard for good service trust me, do not stay at this Hotel. read more

Our stay at the Gritti Palace felt literally Royal. Everything about the hotel is Perfect. The ambiance, decor, service, food quality were all superior. The hotel, while displaying an old world palatial feel, also boasts modern amenities that made the stay more enjoyable. We were on our honeymoon and are SPG members and we were upgraded to a suite. The suite was classically furnished and decorated in exquisite fashion. Bed and bedding were comfortable and we slept well every night. There was much attention given to details like the mini-bar, B&O stereos for music and iDevices and of course a TV in both rooms. Light controls were a bit puzzling to control at first - but this was the only complaint - and a minor one at that. As exceptional and lavish as the decorations were in the suite, the bathroom exceeded this. Lush, deep plush towels - on a heated towel rack - separate sinks, large shower with two different shower heads and a beautiful marble decor. The staff was only too happy to help and be of service in every way. They were professional and knowledgable, had a wonderful welcoming attitude and helped make our stay that much more special. It was easily one of the best stays I've had any where and the best stay I've ever had in Venice. I look forward to my return. read more
