While the location of this hotel is practically perfect, the hotel itself was kind of a let down. We stayed there for a total of 7 nights.
So let's start with the good part - the location is as good as you could want. It's very central and you'll be less than 5min walk away from a ton of restaurants, stores, train lines, subways, and beautiful walks by the water. You can take trains for about 20min to get to Uetliberg which is absolutely gorgeous, or a 20min walk to Lake Zurich. Or if you're feeling adventurous 2 hours to the absolutely stunning Interlaken. If you find restaurants too expensive (which they are) there are grocery stores very close by to shop at.
Now, the hotel itself, besides the the AC (which apparently is not common in Zurich) was very mediocre. Nothing awful, but just a lot of problems.
The first thing I noticed upon entering the hotel was how dirty the red carpets were. But that didn't bother me too much since it's not like we'd be spending a lot of time there anyway. So after checking in and getting up to our floor in the tiniest elevator I've ever seen in my life, we arrived at our room.
Upon entry the room seemed very "meh" and a bit on the smaller end. Nothing too impressive, but nothing too terrible either.
But as we settled in, we noticed a couple of things... the duvet cover for some reason didn't close at the end (no zippers or buttons) and you can see the duvet inside which was DIRTY, like literal brown colored stains on it. We got around it by ensuring the open end was by our feet, but it was still pretty gross.
Then in the bathroom for some reason they gave us two hand soaps and no shampoo - seems like whoever cleaned the room last mixed up the bottles. The shower itself was this weird bathtub with a partial door that sealed only a third of the bathtub and leaked water like crazy every time we showered.
The air conditioner was very nice especially since the week we were there temperatures were ~32-36C, but every time it started up it sounded like a huge furnace nearby just jump-started and scared us the first few nights.
The sound insolation - this was the worst part for me - was TERRIBLE. We could hear everything from the room over - from their conversations to literally just their TV playing. And being next to the elevator we can also often hear the chatters of people getting on/off the elevator as well as the elevator itself. Luckily(?) we were so jetlagged we usually fell asleep before people got back to their rooms.
After that each time our room got cleaned random things would happen - one time they just straight up took all the tissue paper boxes. Another time the shampoo bottle was gone again. The weirdest was when they took all the bath towels.
So all in all you're definitely paying for the location here and not the hotel itself. Nothing was absolutely awful and you're not going to find cockroaches or anything like that, but it's definitely not worth the 4-star hotel title they supposedly have. There are just way too many details lacking attention. read more
